  1. I did this with my wife 2 years ago or so. It was a great experience.
  2. 113 books so far this year. Spider-Man Life Story: This was a decent read, but certainly rushed in places. But I guess that was kinda the point - to shove a lot of history (retelling of the history, really) into a short series. Some really goofy parts in the resolution. I read this for my first ever comic book club. We'll be discussing this book tomorrow night. Our (7yo and I) journey through The Legend of Zelda continues. Still way too juvenile for my liking. We are taking a break to read something else that caught his eye. We have finished 5 of the 10 manga in the box set. Uncanny X-Men Omnibus 2 - Our (10yo and I) continue to chip away at this. We've taken a few breaks to read other stories. I really dislike the annual issues. Days of Future Past is up next in the omnibus. We are currently reading X-Men Days of Future Past - Doomsday, which is a modern run up to the classic story. So far, I enjoy it.
  3. You are absolutely right. They are similar, but different. Turns out, I didn't own the Havok hologram on the black backing (30th anniversary promo), so I bought it off eBay. Here's a pic of the 30th anniversary item (left) next to the sticker (right). They are indeed different. The sticker looks like the X-Factor 92 hologram. The 30th anniversary promo hologram was sent for free to LCSs (I was able to find a letter from Marvel describing it). So after Marvel used the hologram for X-Factor 92 and the promo for the 30th anniversary, a vending machine company gets a hold of or creates a similar but different hologram...but doesn't use the more popular characters like Wolverine or Magneto. Very curious. We'll probably never know exactly why this came to be, but I do love this stuff.

  5. Thanks for the reply. That's interesting. They were advertised online as vending machine stickers, so that's consistent. I'm really curious why the vending machine company would use Havok and not any other characters (at least not that I've seen). And it looks like the exact same hologram used on the comic. I wonder if the vending machine company bought overstock printed stickers from the manufacturer that made the stickers for the comics, then decided to chop them up for vending machines.
  6. I'm trying to identify what this specific hologram was used for. It was advertised from the seller as a vending machine sticker. I have a pretty decent sized vending machine sticker collection, and I really don't think this was a vending machine sticker. The back (sticky part) of the hologram is black and the paper backing is not cut evenly. I've seen others of these online, so it's not a one-off. Does anyone know what this was used for or where it came from? While it's the same hologram used elsewhere, the sample above does not appear to have simply been pealed off or cut out from one of these items:
  7. I'm catching up on some purchases from the end of last year and this year. Comics for Ukraine from Zoop (kinda like Kickstarter, but not as good, from a shopper perspective) The Art of Arthur Adams softcover, from Kickstarter. Came with some NSFW prints in a signed portfolio. Todd Lockwood: Found Worlds. I got this hardcover from him at a show, including a remarque, for less than the cost of two prints. Great book. Fantastic Worlds: The Art of William Stout. Convention purchase. Cheaper than buying prints and came with a remarque and a signed print. Thorn: the Complete Proto Bone, from Kickstarter. This is the paperback edition, which came with some extras. Fun book. Others have posted more pics in the Bone thread.
  8. 99 comics so far this year. D&D Stranger Things was a nice companion to the series. My daughter and I enjoyed it. Dawn of X Vol. 9 - getting good again. Still not sold on the Cable series, but the rest were good.
  9. I enjoyed the series, too. I thought the parts with Punisher, Conan, and Black Widow were great.
  10. I sent an email on 3/15 and got this response on 3/19: I ordered the "INKED SIDE PROFILE SKETCH ON BLANK COMIC COVER - JIM LEE" and it still shows as Scheduled for Grading. That's a lot of money held by CGC for about 6 months now and no update of any kind unless you email them, then it's just a generic reply. No idea if/when the book will get done.
  11. 89 comics so far this year. I'm still working through Dawn of X. Still of mixed quality. I'm a big REH fan, but this comic was a big ol' mess.
  12. A few recent random purchases. I still need a few Sales to Astonish, and I really love the 90s nostalgia with the promo material. I was also able to snag The World of Fanzines in incredible shape for cheap.
  13. I recently got this on eBay. I pick up Keepsake Collections whenever I can.
