  1. Well I didn't want to beat on it, but I tried. Didn't move...
  2. And how much does this effect value or sell-ability in your opinion?
  3. Am I doing it wrong? I've always stored them stacked in a tupperware box. I am not a fan of having them sit vertically back to back. Although I know this has been practiced longer than I've been alive. I just think that opens the door for spine creases. Opinions?
  4. I personally find this topic very interesting and one that I also practiced in firearms collecting. A good example I think is below... Colt single action army values range usually between $2,000 - millions right now due to supply of course but also demand. Most will fly off the market within a day of going up. However what is interesting and also a little concerning to me is that most collectors are in the age group of 50-80 years old. Also most will tell you they collect due to watching spaghetti westerns as a child. Now what does this have to do with comic collecting? Well alike, I look in the gold and silver age market place here and surely and rightfully so they cost a huge premium over bronze and copper, BUT what I wonder is what is the driving force of the demand and what is the age group of most of the collectors. Another factor that can't be ignored is most adults past the age of say 30 have more of a disposable income than younger for sure. But still...I have to wonder what is the future value of gold, silver, and even bronze age books might be going forward. And a final piece of the puzzle I believe is the fact that before Disney, Marvel went into bankruptcy (so what does that say for comic collecting value?). But I think the key to the answer might or has to lie with Disney and what they have brought to the table. Mainly the movies and Marvel in general going forward. Opinions?
  5. Well honestly lately what I’ve really been doing is skipping the CGC and finding really nice raw books and scooping them up. The ONLY thing that really worries me is my opinion on what it will grade isn’t what it would grade. So what I’ve done is sometimes look at known graded books and compare to what I’m looking at. And usually I shoot low. So if I think it looks like a 9.2 I figure by the price if I’m getting a good deal or not as to what a 8.5 is valued at. Not sure if that makes sense or not.
  6. So I'm making this thread because of a few reasons. 1, I'm new to collecting comics in the new era of graded comics and 2, I've read where people on here have actually said with the money you save going with a lower grade than 9.8 you can get for example sometimes 2 of the same book in 9.4 vs 1 in 9.8. Plus I also read on here that often times lower grade books increase MORE in value. So I have a problem of wanting 9.8 or nothing in books and I would like to learn why I shouldn't be this close minded. Maybe you guys can help me. And I mainly collect 1970s-1990s book as that is what I enjoy the most.
  7. Just getting back around to collection comics I had no idea "facesmiles" even came around. Now that I'm back in the game, while searching for some key books I've wanted I noticed some were WAY low priced. I thought no way...Then noticed all of these facesmile editions. The accuracy to the original book is stunning. So that left me wondering, do some people want the original keys but once these came around they were good enough and actually end up taking away traffic from the originals? Seems to me they could...
  8. What are some good Submariner ones to get into that don't cost an arm and a leg?
  9. What does the “poly bag” have to do as far as “value”? What is it representing and what do collectors possibly see from it vs the normal?
  10. But you do send CGC the graded books still in the case right? You don't break the case open yourself?
  11. I'm looking at a CBCS book that is a 9.8 and everything I can see says that it would be a 9.8 but I would like to send it into CGC to have them grade and slab it. What is the likelihood that they will honor the grade and it will be a CGC 9.8? How often do people do this?
  12. Well I’m not a Sub Mariner fan, never have been. And I have to be guilty that the recent news of him hitting the big screen got me interested. Mainly the wife and I just got done watching the Eternals and just thinking of the BP 2 plot there will be against the Atlantians has me interested in him. So I came across this issue and the cover really popped out at me. But is this a good key issue for him?
  13. Well just grabbed a high grade one newstand for $3.50 Figure that's a decent one to sit on. I don't know if I will grade it. If I had to guess, 9.4
  14. The amount of Venom Lethal Protector 9.8 make me want to throw up. I swear it seems like 12 more show up for sale daily.
  15. I think (and I could be wrong here) this is a great example as to why variant covers will never hold value in the long run. There are so many version of the book that it is hard to hone in on. Look at X-Men 11, it has more of a value over 1 for no real reason.
  16. I think it would help if this board had dates on the Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Copper.
  17. Well I was looking back and in 2004 there was a thread just like this. But it was someone asking when the 80's would spark the Copper era. But that did get me to thinking that for me personally I feel the early to mid 90's was the last normal paper page comic era. After that the overall look and feel of comics changed. With that said I also feel that the 90's books get flooded by all the new books and variants. At what point will early to mid 90's books not be considered "modern"? I mean that was almost 30 years ago plus....
  18. You don't know Jerry? He sells all the good stuff to the kids. Nothing like what Martinez sells.
