  2. Wow lots of discusion !

I am really ok about my sale. I sat back and realized that although the books were there on Thursday -- the buyer might not have been. i will just lay back and not worry

If it is someone who is reputable around here, I wouldnt sweat it anyways. This place is alot better then Ebay.

  3. Just wanted to say that I have thoroughly enjoyed the Marketplace over the last week or so.

There have really been some fabulous selling threads with great books. I am very happy to finally be turning my somewhat embarassing collection of 80's and 90's drek into a collection that I can truly enjoy and take pride in its ownership.

Keep up the good work people. This board is the best.

I agree, there has been everything from GA to Moderns and back again! Great work everyone! :applause:

Agreed ! I think it has been about a month now where the books have been top-notch. The past two weeks have been great !

  4. Ok. You guys finally won. My friend had all the trades (well minus 8) and let me borrow them sunday afternoon. By monday afternoon, I picked up the number 8 from Barnes and Noble, read it and sold that to him.

Gotta say, well written series. Thank god the whole thing isnt JUST about zombies. Kirkman is a damn good writer, and I have enjoyed the series. Now I just wait for the next trade. I wont buy the single issue, but I will read the trades. Definately worth reading.

Sweet, glad you enjoyed it!! ^^

Definately enjoyed it. Thats book #2 I read because of these boards.

  6. Its been a mixed feeling about slabbing, but recently I have seen the pro surpassing the con. Example, I tried selling a book a while back on ebay with a reserve, unslabbed, and it did not sell. When I slabbed it,and tried re-selling it the reserve met in just 2 days. People are trusting CGC for the first and most important fact-- restoration. Anyone on ebay can say, the book is unrestored. I am not saying CGC is perfect, but its better than some joe telling anyone, the book is unrestored (when in fact he/or she is unsure themselves).

I even bought a GA book from a dealer once with a guarantee there was no restoration, when I slabbed it it came back (not too long ago) purple with a note of glue on the back middle of the spine. I did not even see it after checking it cover to cover. And I dont miss alot , but Im not perfect with detecting either. It could happen to anyone.

True, and not true. People do indeed trust CGC books, people also trust joe shmoe if they have dealt with him before. CGC does indeed offer better restoration detection then the average dealer, and people trust the 3rd party grading much more then mr.shmoe.

If you are reputable , with a good return policy moving books is fairly easy. On the other side is people are willing to pay multiples of guide for higher number blue labels. The dealer you bought the book from should have offered you a partial refund or taken the book back. If he offered to let you keep the book and gave you back even 40% that would have been a happy ending.

I dont like slabs in my collection, unless it is something I plan to never read anyways. Books to be sold are better off being slabbed IMO (provided they are good candidates) because the premium becomes much higher. And more money is very appealing.

  7.

can't let these two slip by without comment. gorgeous books

Thanks bud. Gold gets no love in general....even gold as stunning as those! :(

    :screwy:

Really really nice copies. Im more of a DC superhero Little Leaguer.... When I buy Batman 1 , then I can come play.

  8. I agree here. Alot of guys want the pre-robin tec's. He was always a 50/50 character , some like him some dont. But the first batman only issues are always going to go faster. 31 for me is the #1 I would like to own out of the 27-38. #27 is a close second.

#31 is a great cover but #27 is the grail.

27-37 is a great run for sure and was always first on my list to complete but #38 is historically significant.

I dont disagree with you one bit. But for my personal collection , detective comics 27 isnt a blip. From a financial standpoint I doubt I will ever own a copy that I would actually want to admit to owning. My major Grail right now is Batman 1 Joker is far and away my favorite villian of all time, the guys nuts ! But I love the Batman 227 cover, and would love to own the original detective #31. So from my seat here, that is my preference. But historic significance 27, and 38 both top it.

  9. If you average it out state by state, NY is going to have far more then anyone else anyway. Its essentially the heart of comic collecting, Metropolis, Big Apple Comic Con, etc. A state like South Dakota might have zero. Even if you count all the copies Metropolis has, comiclink, ebay, etc..you are never going to come anywhere near 750. Of course many people would just keep them for themselves, but even though we see more Tec #38's then others on the market does not make them much more common, it means the demand is higher.

actually, I would say that of tec 27-38, the demand is much much less for 38 compared to previous issued copies (that is why those are generally quickly gobbled up into collections, and 38 sells much slower)

one reason we see so many copies for sale, is that we don't see very many of them sell at the asking prices .... don't get me wrong, it is a GREAT issue, but there are a ton of them, and presumably (based on the continual available supply) they are not in that much demand relative to the price and supply, when compared to most issues 27-37 :sorry:
