I'm pumped up about three books that I bought recently. Sorry for the lame pictures.... I don't have a scanner. These aren't super high-grade like many of the museum pieces that I've seen here recently on the boards, but for what they are, Farrell pre-code horror, the condition is stellar. They all belonged to a single collector who spent many, many years putting togeter an Ajax/Farrell collection. One reason I am very excited to have these books is that they are in very similar condition with vibrant colors and good page quality. Each has a cover crease, but not much in the way of edge tears, chipping or chunks. It's very difficult to put together a nice run, and unless you're a multi-millionaire, you have to go for books that are less than NM to do so. And that means finding books with similar defects and appeal. The collector of these books did an admirable job.

The first book is Haunted Thrills #5 with what I consider to be a classic skull cover. I love this one...

     Congrats! Love the skull cover

They should make you whole regardless of “fault”. It’s called customer service. Not outing them is what I find strange?

    I agree.

I prefer not to out them because that was never the purposes of this post,  the purpose of this post is to seek guidance from experienced buyers and collectors on how to handle the situation based on their experiences and wisdom.

I am still actively trying to work something out with the company regardless of the managers last email.  So at the end of the day if they make good on it then there is nothing to warn people of.

There are a couple of fairly new staff that really care about customer service and relationships and have worked really hard to turn the companies reputation around, and it’s slowly changing.  I’ve now reached out to the staff who actually care and they are going to see what they can do.

I will have a better idea tomorrow and will keep everyone updated as soon as I hear back. Sorry for the delay in responding, im actually on a little vacation and spent the day traveling from New York to New Orleans.

Also thank you to everyone who has offered some insight.

The color touch was no doubt "undisclosed" because the seller is no better at spotting color touch than you (the OP) are.

im not sure if that’s true, and I’m not sure I agree, this is a very big organization in the industry with in-house graders ( all their raw books have grades literally printed on the backing board the books come bagged in) they have a giant catalog and several locations.  They sell books from current titles to 100k pedigree books, and are actively selling at least 3 or 4 times a day on Ig claim sales and conventions, and if they don’t know how to spot color then that is there negligence.  they either should figure out how to or simply just take responsibility when issues occur.

  4. I purchased an undisclosed restored tomb of Dracula 1 ($500) from a well known comic book shop based out of the west coast.
I’ve recently learned about the color touch when I submitted the comic to be graded at cgc.

I’ve reached out via email to let them know and there manager  wants to do nothing to help me, assuming no responsibility.  There policy is once a raw comic book is mailed out there is no way to know if it’s the same book they sent me.

Now I’ve spent close to 10k with them online either website or live ig claim sale and this is the first issue I’ve ever braught to there attention.

    What should I do now?

  5. I purchased a raw tomb of Dracula 1 from a well known comic book shop on an ig claim sale, sent it off to cgc to get graded and it came back as a restoration (small amount of color touch) Im not angry because I don’t think they were trying to take advantage of me.  I’ve reached out to them via ig and email and haven't heard back yet.  Just wondering how this sort of situation is usually handled.

Is there a website that lists the history of every Comic Book Author or Artist and what they've worked on.

I.E. would be Frank Miller. His 1st Marvel Cover he drew was Daredevil #158. From there he worked on Daredevil ... etc.... and then Batman #.....etc

I feel like Wikipedia isn't always correct and there are no pictures to see the cover of the comic book the site is referring too.  Thanks

Someone needs to make this happen, would be a great resource.

Do not know if any LCS's still do this. Back in the early 90's long before the internet one of the LCS's I frequented had a "Search Service". You filled out a card with your name/address, the book you were looking for, grade range and price you were willing to spend. They would then contact all of their contacts in their inner circle and when they found the book they mailed the card to you and you went and picked up the book. When the new Iron Man cartoon was coming out and the Mandarin was mentioned as the main villain I wanted a copy of TOS 50, they found one in about 2 weeks time.

There are a lot of online comic shops and auction sites, you may want to start going to local shows and cons that are more about comics than Pop Culture. There are also Facebook groups dedicated to Golden Age, not all allow sales but there are also Buy/Sell Groups.
