  1. Thanks! As I shared with Ed, I like this one for more than just the rarity and upside value. When I first told my 80 year old father-on-law about my interest in comics, he started rattling off his memory of this “crippled kid” who would say “Shazam” and become a super hero. So there’s that recall and coolness. Then we got the Nazi history. I watched a YouTube this morning and it took me through each page/panel. The history and origins of a Junior who lasted 9 years and 119 comics… Sold me! I really need to slow down though. Is there such a thing as comicaholics anonymous?!?
  2. Slept on it and woke up needing to have it. Too much nostalgia and rarity to leave behind.
  3. This one. Damn. I was awfully close to picking up that fugly FF52 for over $21k. Pretty sure I was one bid away, which is hard to know for sure, but… glad I stopped! Side note: I’ve got a 9.2 ASM 69 and the black w/ Kingpin is one of my favorites.
  4. Nice book right there! The 8.5 XMen 4 I took a run at had me pretty excited about owning a key book in that series. And I see what you are all saying. I’m truly grateful I lost the fugly FF52!
  5. It’s that last point that seems to be so true. 10 years ago those who were buying up the right keys, for high dollars at the time, likely had folks scratching their heads in wonderment (like my wife is currently). The passage of time shows them to be way ahead. No one knows what the future holds, of course, but the long term play is solid in my opinion.
  6. Graders notes: “Top front cover crease. Top front cover wear”. The top staple has a slight indent. So does all this make it a funky/fugly 9.2? Undeserving? I was pretty pumped about the White Pages and overall grade. And the black cover is hard to grade out this high, right? I’m not trying to defend this book, by any means. If I won then I’d probably be a little defensive. Just trying to learn.
  7. Could you please tell me what is fugly about this book? I need to learn.
  8. Thanks for this analysis. Spot on! It’s good to develop the right hunting skills and advice like this is helpful. From the category of good advice, I must add that KCOComics was a good sounding board yesterday!
  9. I think I knew that going in and was ready to pay a premium for high grade awesomeness. When the price got to premium+ I was ok w/ walking away.
  10. I now have one Heritage auction under my belt. I doubt I will try another. The FF52 (9.2) ($21,600) and X-Men 4 (8.5) ($14,400) both got away. I truly believe someone overpaid (did any of y’all end up with these awesome books?) and I am genuinely thankful I did not hit that bid button one more time! I enjoyed the ComicLink experience much more.
  11. These are the nuance thoughts we mainstream folks long to hear. So many movies, YouTube narratives and Heritage auctions set the stage. But the true origin storylines are within y’all. Personally, I want to know more.
  12. My bad!! I picked that up in your last auction. Same grade and everything.
