  1. You are talking about a corporate "fanzine" style article. Look, RC Harvey's article on Miller's DD is one of my most favorite fanzine articles ever, but the cover of CJ 58 is not Elektra's "first appearance." Because a "first appearance" occurs in a story, in a comic book, not on the cover of a fanzine. It's a neat item. Folks will pay a premium for the issue because it is neat, but the "market has not spoken" that this is a "first appearance" for the obvious reason that price and contents are two entirely different things. Heck, a Stan Lee signed Marvel Age 41 blows away the prices for any other Marvel Age. What is it the "first appearance" of?
  2. It is a really nice ad. Undoubtedly adds value to the book, but is not a first appearance. As for Marvel Age, it was a corporate adzine/previews. A character’s appearance on the cover of such a publication is meaningless. What would convince me is photos of the interior. If it is indeed a story appearance, you win in my book.
  3. Fair enough. A prologue story ala NTT is a story appearance. An ad is not. Now tell me what this is:
  4. If you mean Detective 1 - yes. if you really mean Action 1 - famously not for a few years, LoL.
  5. I've didn't know that was possible. But, I have submitted a subscription variant of WDC&S which garnered a 9.4 (white) because it did not have a crease.
  6. No, but I can think of several that have gone two increments and from ow to white.
  7. Staples rotated to the front cover. Weird looking to me.
  8. More early Dave you don't see very often, his first comic story:
  9. I have one of those (2 pgs back). Thought about putting it in a cgc case for about 3 seconds until common sense returned and I realized the only reason to have it is the cf. Yours looks a bit better than mine and your photo skills are far superior. IF you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay?
  10. The third 9.0 is the 9.4. But, you are ignoring the MH and the SF. My guess if the MH is in DA's collection, it is close, but likely better. After all, DA sells MHs to get a better copy. The guy upgraded his Superman 1 from the MH. I'm pretty sure he wanted the best Batman 1 to go with his Allentown D27 and original Batmobile.
  11. This is your brain on this thread: fried. Seriously, folks here can not distinguish between a first appearance in a comic story and an AD in a comic or a publisher’s promotional materials? WTF? Every time I see this debate It is clear we have speculators trying to manipulate the market by hyping something as being what it is not. Sad.
  12. Maybe they think no one cracks the case? Or have the standards diminished over time? Clearly, the photo tech has improved.
  13. AS 8 was the highest CGC grade available to ever come to market, as was the CA 1 (Verzyl's was graded but not available). So very comparable. And the AS 8 sold first. CA movies are now done (a negative), WW has new movie coming out (a positive). Big GA books tend to appreciate in sporadic spurts. Big leaps, separated by long periods of inactivity. And even books which regress, can change direction on a dime. Just look at MC 1. (I'm not convinced CA 1 will ever even top MC 1.)
  14. Batman had the Bat Hound. And Bat Mite. And a whole Batman family, including grandparents. And let's not forget all the Batmen of the Indians, of the cave men, etc.
  15. DC is wiping the floor with Marvel. Action 1 and D27 are on completely different level. DC second tier stronger than Marvel top tier. AS 8 left CA 1 in the dust. Batman 1 will leave MC 1 in the dust.
  16. Double checked on Rob Larsen's site. He has DA buying the MH Batman 1 for multiples of Guide in 1984 ($12K).
  17. To my eyes, it looks like you got at least 3 different artists on these.
  18. Kirby's hands sorta suck. So I'd say these were Simon.
  19. Just double checked. He does own the MH Batman 1. Listed as NM by Chuck. Here's a pic:
  20. Why? The "dot" copies clearly are the first print.
