  1. Yeah, it just seems like they are trying to wash their hands of it - to be aware that there are counterfeit versions of their product floating around in the marketplace, and to not own that seems irresponsible at best. Given the data they have on all the submissions, I would think flagging those cert numbers to the community at large would be the least they could do.
  2. Compensation notwithstanding, someone, be it CGC or @comicwiz, or someone else needs at some point to publish a list of cert #s associated with the scammers, or books that are known to have changed while keeping their cert number. A black list of sorts. While the rest of us plebes can do our best to verify the cert numbers using CGC's lookup, it would certainly be useful to have a list of submission numbers to steer clear of - or to have checked by CGC if you own one. Just a thought...
  3. Perhaps that is one of the new improved processes they have implemented since holdergate? Lol
  4. Well, just got the notification that my book had indeed been tampered with - now I guess we wait and see what happens. The email states it may be a few weeks before I hear anything further.
  5. I totally hear and live these points of view. I just turned 50 and for me it is about having a piece of history. If the bottom fell out of the market I would also be fine. But do I hope they might appreciate over time? Sure better believe it but that’s not why i am buying. I now have the means to have things I would never have thought I would have and things I held on a pedestal. So I buy and I enjoy seeing them and come what may. it is certainly not a retirement plan, but it brings me joy every day
  6. I got the 6.0 on the first book but was a full 1.0 grade harsher on the others(I spent a lot of time comparing to my own graded books) and either things have become more lenient or I am losing my mind. -iron man - soft corners, abraded edges, creasing and wear across the top? 9.2? I had it at 8.5 -comet I was at 5.5 but waffled with a 6. The extra stain and the piece out got me lower -HOS I saw spine stress lines and some wear that I wouldn’t have thought to see in 9. I was at 8.0 -fear 10- I thought the abraded corners brought this down but clearly I just have to adjust my grading I was a full point under on all the newer books I had this at 7.5 this was a sad round of 8 points
  7. Customs, shipping, etc, but not associated with the exchange rate - just when your US dollar is worth 1.40 in Canadian, it can be a bit of a shock the first time…or every time
  8. All of this bang on. I will note that there is a huge difference between the shipping and custom fees between comiclink and heritage auctions for example. Heritage is far more expensive, largely because of the declared value of the package. Also note that if you want to pay by cheque, you will need an American bank/bank account. Otherwise you can pay by visa (and get dinged the 3% merchant fee) or via bank wire (which also has fees attached). I think visa is good for up to 10k per invoice. The exchange rates are what give me the biggest heartburn…. Good luck!!
  9. I also have sent mine. Just curious about CLink being proactive with their buyers if they weren’t following the news…
  10. The fact that they are not opening the slabs to verify everything is kosher, plus not issuing new cert numbers is a little questionable and concerning to me - I would think that anyone holding one of the books and trying to sell it to a knowledgeable audience would face some pushback - as there really is no guarantee it hasn't been tampered with - and will always be tainted to some degree. @CGC Mike As somone who is sending one of "the list" books back to CGC, I would want the assurances that they have actually looked at the physical book, and would like the original cert number disassociated with my book. As long as the list of suspect books is out there and available to people, I can imagine anyone looking to buya copy of the book in question will simply opt for a book that wasn't on the list just for peace of mind reasons - especially if it appears that there is not a lot of actual diligence in the recheck process.
  11. Ugh. So if they slip new books onto the list we have to go back and recheck our slabs over and over again. @CGC Mike I think it was comicwiz that asked that new entries be flagged in some way - please yes!!!!
  12. Looking at the Heritage auction last night, there were some pretty soft numbers...cause and effect?
  13. It sure would be nice to hear from CGC by way of an update - or anything...their silence is deafening
  14. Where did you see the comiclink statement? I was specifically looking for one yesterday and came up dry. Many thanks, Panda2
  15. I hear you. Blunted corners, rough bottom edge, and I feel like it has what looks like a stain on the right edge by the picture frames. Unless that’s just glare.
  16. To make matters worse vis-a-vis being able to trust any slab, you then layer on overgenerous grading (I make the assumption that this could be legit) - this is an 8.5?!!? https://comics.ha.com/itm/silver-age-1956-1969-/superhero/iron-man-1-marvel-1968-cgc-vf-85-off-white-to-white-pages/a/122402-13573.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515 At least the bid price seems to indicate that people at least look at the books before buying…
  17. Hi there, I have one of the ASM 194's on the list eligible for re-check. When I start the order on the site, it seems to indicate that fedex is only available for US addresses? Should I go ahead and try that or do I need to do something differently as I am north of the border? Many thanks, Panda2
