pretty much since he's been here, virtually all of his posts have been shilling for xmen1 in high grade as a can't lose long term investment, ad nauseum. so it's just a bit of friendly ribbing. it's an honest question based on his record why his handle isn't xmen1is#1

Thanks for the reply and 😂😂😂

  2. I learned a lot this weekend at C2E2 from lot of old school dealers who were kind of enough to enlighten me and take their time to teach me about the comics and its history. I was there to purchase and spend money and funny thing is I’ve had more than one old school dealers who are fairly well known in this industry? (now this is my pure assumption since I’ve seen these dealers being mentioned on this board several times) these old knowledgeable gentleman all steered me away from ASM #1 and all directed me towards either FF1 or X-Men 1 over ASM #1.

Their reasoning were fairly similar and they also crushed some key books that are hot now and actually prevented me from spending/wasting five figure plus on books which they believed were not worthy of the price tag and won’t hold its value (I was actually shocked to hear some of the remarks lol)

Having said all this I still have a deal in line to pick up ASM #1 today so.. 😂

  3. Friday was bare and crowd was not that heavy. Sat. Empty spaces on Friday were filled with vendors and much more foot traffic through out the show and I made few purchases and vendors were whom I spoke with were telling me it was a solid show thus far and I over heard one dealer speaking to another gentleman and he was stating how awful this show was but he had his ASM129 CGC 6.5 for $3150 (as an example) so i assume the price tag may have drove some people off. Lot of funkos everywhere and I mean a lot of funkos.

His first 5 posts were essentially "i'm brand new and don't know anything about comics but I have these 5 figure keys" and "I've spent $60k on books and am looking to spend that much on an AF15".  Then there was the "I lost $700k" comment

It's really about knowing the audience.  When subs like "antiwork" and "workreform" are hugely popular, there are A LOT of people on reddit who are just getting by.  Flippantly acknowledging zero knowledge in books and then displaying 5-6 figures worth of it right off the bat isn't going to sit well with people.  Posts about huge books will go over a lot better in a place like the CGC Boards where the community is accustomed to seeing and hearing about big books all the time.  Nevermind the fact that we constantly share our key acquisitions.  Just look at the number of "fan club" posts in the golden/silver/bronze age sections.

If you read that post you’ve noticed that I’ve never was brought finance until someone suggested that I would be offering a bankruptcy sale on my very first post in Hulk 8.0.

I knew nothing about comics but I knew that book was sought after so I started with that particular book and was excited to share my entry into the collecting world.

I was not aware that obtaining that book was against the process of collecting and someone with funds were not allowed to enter the comic world from the response of many lol.

At the end of the day I’m still having a blast collecting and who cares if I upset people cause I obtained a book or two.

    That would be my guess.

Playing Devil's Advocate for moment; on a sub-reddit jumping in as a new collector and displaying 50K+ worth of Key graded comics might come off as humble bragging or worse.  Here it plays much better. Still probably better to ease in?

P.S. Once again based on topic title very refreshing NOT to see ASM361, X-Men (1991) #1,#4 and Spawn #1

Here’s my response to that is that we are all in a different financial situation and fortunately for me I’m not alternating my lifestyle to obtain these books and I’m actually overpaying for lot of stuff I’ve collected and I’m having fun and it’s funny to see other grown people pocket watch other peoples funds (Not saying you are by any means but the response I was getting somewhere else) it is what it is and so far I’ve collected lot of “Junk” to others that I’ve been adding cause I enjoyed the cover/story and so on and My brief experience thus far as been an entertaining one and I’m planning to collect some key issues as I go along.

All of this discussion turned out to be irrelevant. The guy showed up to the show with the book in hand, showed it to me, I put 10 grand on the table and then he got cold feet. No sale.

That sucks and I’ve had a similar experience recently with a seller backing out at the last minute and I know the feeling.

It must be in PMs or somewhere other than this board, because all I've seen in this thread is congratulations, admiration and envy.

Not here but on a different platform.

here I’ve received nothing but positive feedback and just browsing here I’ve gained a lot of info which I was completely oblivious until I’ve came here. Much respect to the board.

Well. you're picking good stuff.  You probably have more money invested in your comics already than a large percentage of collectors (That's not bad, it's just unusual. You must have plenty of fun money).  This hobby is a lot more fun when you're able to spend. Are you only buying books that are already graded?

So far I’ve been picking up mostly graded copies since I’m still a noob and still so much to learn about the hobby.
I’ve been catching lot of “Hate” since I guess I’m not supposed to be adding key issues right off the bat and I guess to some I’m not appreciating the hobby by not trading and collecting my way up.

It is what it is and I’m just enjoying my time collecting and I’m just here to learn and enjoy the hobby.

Are you looking at this strictly as an investment type thing, or do you have any other goals? You picked great books that would be owned or sought after by most collectors over a long time. Most of us have 100 junk books to every one like yours, because of following a theme in our collecting habits. What you have as your starters would be like the few comics a former collector just couldn't part with when selling off a collection. If those are just random buys, though, you have great instincts. What next?

I’m a noob and just grabbed few books in the first week after my little research and decided to start off by adding some key issues most collectors go after.

Month in and I’ve added ton of junk far as value wise and I probably over paid for lot of stuff but as long as I’m having fun and enjoying the hobby that’s all it matters to me.

  10. I’m heavily invested in the market and there is zero upside or positive sentiments moving forward and idea of stimulus given out by the govt (Political moves - actually caring about the people 🤷‍♂️) could be an outlet for market to pump back up but that would cause hyperinflation.
I’m a complete noob in the comic world and still pondering if this is the correct time to add the key issues or should I wait for the ball to drop and possibly see these comics down the road 10-15% cheaper or possibly more?

Appreciate any insights from veteran collectors.
