  1. So it's the author going to blame Ethel's appearance and behavior on the comics rather than disinterested parents? Makes sense, carry on. I mean, look at us
  2. Going to school in Middlesbrough and Leeds I didn't meet another kid who read or collected comics until I was 16. Or at least the didn't publicly acknowledge it...
  3. That's the only reason to get into this line of work, Cherry picking the best, selling the rest. Isn't that what they all do anyway 🤣
  4. Would be quite cool working there. Anyone bringing in a comic collection would be told their cents copies are worthless and all pence variants/stamps scanned for this thread first of course.
  5. What he actually says is they came out the day before. So.... They must have been printed weeks ahead of the cents copies, sent over on the ships, distributed by T&P who then released them the exact day before they were released back in the US. Seems reasonable.
  6. I sold about 3500 back in 2021. Took a hit but it was satisfying getting rid of lots of comics that really didn't mean much to me. And with the proceeds I got a nice GSXM1 just before it took off. So I ended up with about 5500 which is now 6000 of major title runs. Having just read this thread I am now wondering if I should cull again. I collect the major marvel character runs but I could easily cut that off when the first volumes stopped in 96. Other than ASM, I'm not really interested in owning them. As someone else mentioned as well, I will sell as one and maybe take another hit but it's nice to clear the space sometimes.
  7. Ladies and gentlemen, the king of the pence variants........
  8. There's a great question, what is the longest run you can get in UKPPVs? Sure Steve can tell us in a second. Was thinking it might be Two in One but remembered the early ones were ND here..
  9. Want sure where to put this but it needs sharing. All from the same seller: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KID-COLT-OUTLAW-109-March-1963-Jack-Kirby-art-Marvel-Comic-No-back-cover/325415976813?hash=item4bc44dbf6d:g:RCIAAOSwaABjaiI1&pageci=aa0b37c2-4c3a-486b-b8cb-6d7b49bdb44d&redirect=mobile https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JOURNEY-INTO-MYSTERY-83-Original-Back-Cover-August-1962-Marvel-No-comic/325431629835?hash=item4bc53c980b:g:c4cAAOSwbt9jCEMD&pageci=92be532b-c246-482b-8650-e70c197ed8c7&redirect=mobile https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TALES-OF-SUSPENSE-33-Sept-1962-Kirby-Ditko-comic-Marvel-no-back-cover/325398034686?hash=item4bc33bf8fe:g:kWIAAOSw21pjV98p&pageci=0f1725a9-b7bc-4164-8610-a0c3773e9b20&redirect=mobile Has also sold "back covers" of AF15 (2 copies), ASM 1,and an FF5 in recent months as well as other comics without back covers. Pretty certain there is no way of knowing that a particular back cover is from a particular issue if there are no parts of the front still attached. Tried reporting one of the listings but it wouldn't allow me to say why I thought it might be fraudulent.
  10. Haven't seen that before but it's very cool. I never dreamed as little kid they could have done what they have with the MCU. It was just me and my dad back then who had any interest in these silly little comics from America.
  11. I agree. Surely the bags should have pence not centres prices on? Don't think the seller is scamming but it doesn't seem right to me. I would have been about 7 then and don't remember ever seeing these.
  12. I wonder if he ever laid awake at night thinking about Kirby and Ditko? Or was he so drawn by the fame and adulation that he actually believed his own tales?
  13. Lots of bookshops or stalls would do that, 3 old for 1 out 2 for 1. It was a bit before my time to be honest but my dad did this a lot in Middlesbrough and Leeds in the 60s and 70s. He said that was how me kept reading in the early 80s when my parents had no money. Also explains why there were much less DC in the collection from that period 😂 he cashed them in for marvel he once told me.
