  1. Nice page, but no Batman kept the price grounded.
  2. SUPER LOW in my biased opinion. No Wolverine on this one punished the final bid I think.
  3. In my decidedly biased opinion, it still has lots of room to grow.
  4. GREAT PAGE! This whole issue is a personal favorite of mine, and I was kinda hoping the ambiguity in labeling this would allow it to slip through the cracks and land in my lap on the cheap, but alas. Even without a flaming skull anywhere in sight, this page is a prize. I have 2 pages from this issue and they are all stamped with the red GHOST RIDER #10 where it was reprinted. But make no mistake, this is from Marvel Spotlight #5, the key Ghost Rider origin and first appearance issue.
  5. The signing announcement was yesterday, the actual event is months away.
  6. The way I phrased this is giving the wrong impression. I respect the hell out of McFarlane and his work. I just don't really collect a lot of "modern" art. Most of my money goes to the giants that came before me who inspired me to become a comic book artist. I've made a few exceptions and bought pieces by Adam Huges and Travis Charest, but nothing much beyond that from my contemporaries. I can really enjoy modern artists work without needing to own their originals. I will say, I regret that I sold off the McFarlane Spiderman pages I inked years ago. I like having representative examples of artists I've worked with in my collection. But I was hellbent on adding vintage art to my collection those many years ago, and did so my cashing out my inked examples to fund that collection. I'd like a do over on some of those choices.
  7. Well, can't comment on the tone of the storylines and tone, as I bought all of those Buscema/Janson issues and never read a single issue. I bought it purely for the art, and by that I mean purely for the inks.
  8. I feel that Janson was a much better inker than a penciller (and he's done a ton of pencilling). He got to work with other really great artists, which is a rare treat, incentivizing him to ink primarily (something I can relate to). And overpowering inkers is not a bad thing if the pairing is appropriate (and you happen to like the ink style, but a terrible thing if you don't).
  9. Fair enough. I've said all along that Klaus was inking in a very dominating style, which for me meant taking an artist that did inherently uninteresting work (Sal) and made it interesting (Sal and Klaus). To me. It didn't matter that it wasn't a good "fit" stylistically or not (round peg/square hole), because I wasn't going to give the more "pure" Sal much of a look unless someone like Klaus gave it a jump start.
  10. Yes, my favorite Klaus pairing, even including Miller.
  11. Do any of the Sal fans on this list like his pairing with Klaus Janson, such as a big chunk of the later Defenders run? It was the only time I actively bought any Sal books, but it was because of what Klaus did to Sal's pencils. I know that Janson was very heavy handed, but that's exactly why I loved it! Super dense shadows, secondary light sources, delicate details...LOVED IT!
  12. Doh!!! I knew that but you are 100 correct! Where is spell check when you need it?! If one is going to make an online point like I was, at least spell it correctly!
  13. I just went back and looked at the prices listed on the first page of this thread, and they make me want to cry.
  14. I thought you were saying 300k includes the juice (the hammer price is kind of irrelevant to me, it's the total cost to the buyer that matters). That said, I'll sill take the over. Of course, I've never even contemplated buying a McFarlane in my life, so what do I know?
  15. How many inkers did Kirby have in those days? Assuming they were all dealing with the same deadline time constraints, can you name ANY other inker who would just ignore Kirby's pencils and decide not to ink characters and backgrounds, and even with that time saver, STILL suck at the basic job of inking? Did Coletta suck 100% of the time? Nope. But his batting average wasn't even at the Medoza line. Suggesting that Kirby should design easier panels to make life easier for his hack inker? Sorry, I just can't go there with you chief.
  16. Nothing wrong with Coletta as long as you don't mind him obliterating entire Kirby backgrounds and characters. Yes, he was useful in terms of getting books out on time, which matters, but his work speaks for itself. That said, he WAS capable of doing very solid professional work, which makes it sad that the majority of his career would be spent being nothing more than a publisher friendly hack.
  17. Not in my wheelhouse as a collector, but that seems like a crazy low number to me. I'll take the over for sure.
  18. Always love to see collectors add cherished pieces to their collection. Congrats! And while I don't personally put Sal in the "deity" category, I will say that his inks on his big brother John in the original Silver Surfer series is the best John has ever looked IMHO, which is no small thing!
  19. Of course! But fortunately for me, I don't think about those kinds of regrets. There's no point.
  20. Must be due to the Spiderman content I guess. I mean, look at this page. Price is bonkers.
