  1. So what's the oldest double cover book out there? The only one I own is an Action Comics #74 (6.5 exterior, 8.5 interior).

I saw an All Flash Quarterly # 1 double cover about 10 years ago. Ouside was pretty good but the inside cover was sweet. I lost the dealers # or i would have called about it again because i have never forgotten it. Some guy in upstate NY. What a book.

  2. The collection is complete and right up to date.

    Every DC comic ever sold.

WOW!!!! What an accomplishment. Probably only 1 of 10 complete sets in the entire world (wild guess).

Cant imagine what that would be worth. I mean, the Detectives alone would take a mint to complete!?!?!?

Any future plans for futher complete sets?

Regardless, Good for you! Must have taken many years and intense commitment.

  3. Marvel Chipping has been blamed on dull blades when the book was trimmed.

I'm skeptical of this because a dull blade would possibly only give a jagged edge, sort of like what you see as a common problem on Amazing Spider-Man #300.

I'd think a more likely possiblity would be poor paper quality that gets flaky on the edges as time and oxygen break down the fibers.

The edges of this particular paper would be more likely to flake.

I could be completely wrong, but I think it's a possiblity.

Borock may have a better soloution this defect because of his experience with looking at so many examples of it.

While I have no way of proving my idea...I'd need to see some solid proof before I believe the dull blade theory.

I have a hard time believing that the bindery blade was dull for 15-20 years.

If it was possible to trace the paper down to the mill, I'd bet the paper on all these chipped books came from the same source.

This is a hard one to answer because it is something that takes time to become evident, and can't be seen immediately.

Who knows...In 20 years when we have Marvel Chipping on all the ASM 300's and Hulk 340's, we may have the question answered.

Believe it or not, I recently duplicated marvel chipping. I was using a simple paper cutter to cut a 40 page legal sized document to standard 8.5X11 size. The paper cutter had a dull blade and the document wound up with what looked exactly like marvel chipping. The only problem with this is that this chipping went through the entire 40 pages. As far as I know, Marvel chipping only affects the cover. The question is, were the covers cut seperately and then later on added to the pulp pages? Anyone know?

  4. (Although how to God I wish I would have been old enough, and had the foresight, to pick up a box of them back in the 70s....) smirk.gif

I was collecting comics back then as a boy and the ony book i purchased at the candy store EVERY week was Hulk. I purchased the complete Hulk run from 150 to 300 at the same candy store. Unfortunately that run only had 1 key issue while i was collecting and FOR SOME DAMN REASON I HAVE EVERY BOOK BUT HULK 181. I have Hulk 180, and 182 but i guess i must have spent my 25c on gum that week instead of comics. If i had collected Spiderman, i would have a more valueable collection today. But that is not why i am a collector...

  5. This is a real shame. What I cant believe is that people STILL pay so much for high grade CGC Hulk 181's. Please take a look at the census on this BEFORE you bid so much. There are SOOOO many of them in high grade. IT IS INSANITY TO PAY MORE THAN $1k for this book.

  6. Elvis staggers out, his fingers and toes webbed. "That is not pleasant." He notices his webbed fingers. "Oh nertz. Looks like I've got some kind of aquaguy powers. Those are never useful. Especially in flight-based battles."

"Step aside, Damp Dude, we've got other fish to fry."

"And the fish jokes begin. Wonderful."

    Joanna:

That was hilarious!!! My favorite is "Looks like I've got some kind of aquaguy powers. Those are never useful. " You are a classic! Thanks for the write in!

  7. Dan, I am sure i know next to nothing about what happened btwn you and Darth. I dont want to know. But to drop out of collecting comics over it?!? Come on! Suck it up and move on. Dont just up and quit collecting! At worst, sign up under a new name on the boards and start over. I am pretty sure they do it all the time here. Just because of a dispute with a single board member (albeit a popular one)? Stand your ground and stick with it!!! JMHO

  8. Joanna you are a genius. You had me laughing at my keyboard at work, and that is no small task!!! Keep it up!!

    BRAVO!

Hi Elvis! Thank you very much -- wanna be a character? There's always room for The King.

DEFINITELY!!! Make me a good one. That would be great! Now all we need is an artist... Keep up the great posts.

  9. Does anyone have a good template for microsoft access?

I think fantastic_four mentioned, that he uses this software?

Funny you should mention it because i just found this about 2 weeks ago. I have not had a chance to really get into it but seems to be a pretty damn good Access template for comics. And best of all... ITS FREE! Not sure who this dealer is though...

  10. A few years ago, I purchased a gorgeous front cover of Supes #34 off eBay. No back cover, just the front. I had planned on having it framed and displaying it near my comics, but a few weeks later, someone posted a really sharp coverless copy of eBay, and I picked that up too. So, if anyone has a back cover to Superman #34, let me know...

I picked up an Action 23 front cover only on ebay. I was going to frame it also. Then i saw a complete coverless copy and had to get it. Now i need the back cover for Action 23 also...

  11. What's the best way to marry a book?

I mean if you got all the nessary parts to do it, how do ya ultimatly put the book parts together?

Go to a restoration specialist. Like Matt Nelson or Matt Wilson. They can do it for you. Or you can just squeeze in some Elmers, slap the 2 pieces together, wait 15 minutes, and hope for the best. 893applaud-thumb.gif

  12. I purchased a beautiful VG+ Captain America Comics # 2 cover "without the interior" on ebay for $380. I searched and searched, then about 2 years later i picked up an ok coverless copy on ebay (I was forced to bid the hell out of it and got ripped at $520 but what choice did i have?). They are still in 2 seperate pieces but i plan on marrying them soon. Its going to make one Sweet comic! I probably could have picked up a lower grade, complete copy for the same price (after restoration which will be about $350). Total will be $1,250 for a restored VG/FN Cap 2. What do you guys think?
