  1. Bummer about the undisclosed resto, but that's actually a pretty good drawing. It's still a really cool book.
  2. I've been up to a lot of SHE-nanigans lately. Recently picked up a true first edition, published by Longman's, UK, 1887. The color plates of the sherd of Amenartas ar spectacular! It's tough to beat cool old books like this. Also, you gotta love a book that assumes at least a passing knowledge of ancient Greek on the part of the reader. Oh how education has changed in 130 years.
  3. Not a pulp, but related as H. Rider Haggard wrote for the pulps in the latter part of his career. Original poster for the 1894 stage production of Haggard's "She." This dramatization of the 1887 seminal lost world novel by the A. Y. Pearson theater company amazed audiences across North America with it's mechanical and electrical special effects and was the most ambitious of the various stage versions of She that were produced in the 1890s in the UK and US. It surfaced as part of a early poster collection acquired by an antiquarian book dealer a few weeks ago and i had to jump on it right away. I'm having some minor conversation work done to help preserve it, as it's very possible that this is one of the only surviving copies. But this was my Christmas present to myself this year.
  4. Ron, I'm really interested in this and I'll be ordering it through my LCS. I have always enjoyed your posts over the years on the fandom scene and cons of 1970s NY so I'm all on board. Look forward to reading it!
  5. From being bound at the wrist to being cut off at the wrist!
  6. From Flame Throwers (Ancient and Modern) to a Spear Thrower!
  7. From Mysteries Weird and Strange to Flash Gordon's Strange Adventure Magazine!
  8. Yep, there's three. Now I'm committed -- I need the whole set.
  9. Always wanted a Planet Comics 1, but I guess I'll settle for a Planet Stories 1 instead.
  10. More simian fun. One of the classic sailor and monkey Adventure covers by Walter Baumhofer. Plus a Tros of Samothrace story by Mundy!
  11. Got a few new fun pulps. This was always one of my favorite covers. Gorilla climbing a building in 1932 -- one year before King Kong.
  12. All of the La Reina de la Costa Negra Conan comics from Mexico are extremely rare, especially the 1952-53 series and the 1959 series -- there are only a handful of copies known to exist
  13. Did/does the Burroughs estate have any high grade copies that haven't surfaced? I don't know for sure that they still have one, but t hey certainly would have at one time. Also, something to keep in mind is that these when these change hands it often happens behind the scenes. When collections come up sale, keys will often be cherrypicked ahead of time. The old pulp collectors often get really secretive about what they own. On a side note, I know of far more copies of the ToA All Story than the Return of Tarzan New Story issues - the 2nd appearance of Tarzan. And even on non-Tarzan issues New Story is much rarer. Also, it has two N. C. Wyeth covers.
  14. Like Todd, Beasts of Tarzan is as close as I've gotten.
  15. The 20-25 number that is tossed around is an old pre-Internet estimate similar to Gerber estimates. I suspect the number is at least twice that. There are copies in a number of old ERB and pulp collections -- collectors that dont post in imternet forums. I expect we'll be seeing some copies in the next few years.
  16. Paging MrBedrock... I hate it when he posts his Central Valley copy. Should've bought the damn thing from Brian when he was displaying it raw at SDCC. If you remember, he never quoted a price at that show because.... I already had it on hold
  17. Love me some SS 20! I've owned a number of copies over the years. Such a great book and hugely influential. The first comic with all full-color Hal Foster Tarzan -- and the famous Egyptian story arc as well. Frank Frazetta called it the "Bible.' Al Williamson called it the "Encyclopedia Britannica." Here's my current copy:
  18. It's not. He's thinking of Large Feature 5.
  19. Thanks for the plug, Todd! This project is very much a labor of love -- an attempt to bring back a publication like Weird Tales to a modern audience. So far the support on Kickstarter has amazing! Still 24 hours to go!
  20. Wow Todd, You're unstoppable! Working on an Amazing run too!
