  1. Also, what do you do if you're a puerile, talentless manboy hack and you want to distract your audience from all the plot holes? Throw in a completely contrived and unapologetically gratuitous lesbian sex scene. But what drives me crazy is that I know all this but still keep watching. What's wrong with me?!
  2. I just don't know what to make of this show. I'm still watching, and it *is* getting better, but still the writing is really hamfisted. So I think they're they're trying to hint that this Harvey guy is going to be a villain, but it's hard to tell. I wish they weren't so vague. And the dialogue -- this isn't foreshadowing. It's fore-bludgeoning! Selina: You sure do move quietly. Bruce: So do you. Selina: Did I mention my nickname is Cat? Bruce: I'm going to practice holding my breath under water while wearing all my clothes. Selina: Why would you do that? Bruce: I'm practicing to be an escape artist in case a colorful badguy in Gotham tries to drown me in a watery death trap. Selina: That's weird. Bruce: Also, I'm learning to box. Selina: Did I mention my nickname is Cat?
  3. You can't stop the Goat! Honestly, that episode last week wanted to make me gag, it was so poorly done. The fight scenes were poorly choreographed and looked like Walter Mathau and Jack Lemmon locked in battle in Grumpy Old Men, the editing was terrible (at one point Gordon was facing in one direction and then the camera cuts to another angle and Gorden magically changes direction like the Flash), Gordon's facial expressions never change - he's a terrible actor IMO, and the dialogue in general read like a 1940's serial drama - corny and stifled. I'm giving last night's episode (DVR'd) one last shot and if it stinks as much, I'm dropping it. I'm trying really hard guys, but this show just makes me want to Yes, the Goat and Balloonman were just ridiculous. The biggest problem the show has had has been that it can't decide if it wants to be gritty realistic or Burton-esque campy. Trying to do both has made it a mess. Also the writing is often lazy with too many deus ex machina, plot-saving devices. But occasionally the acting is good and the premise of the show has potential, I think. The execution has just been very poor. But last night's episode showed it does have promise. But can they sustain that?
  4. This show might be finally starting to find its way. There were still pieces of hackneyed writing (Barbara getting herself caught ), but for the first time there was also clever writing (the end flashback). I've been very disappointed so far in this show, but I also saw things that made me think it had potential if they could get it together and figure out the right tone -- this episode finally made me feel like that might be happening. Stick to the main arc (corruption, mob war, Penguin, Arkham) and get away from the campy villain of the week thing and it will be alright.
  5. Thought you guys might appreciate my Halloween costume this year.
  6. Is the location of the 1993 100K copy known to anyone? It seems like this would be a likely candidate.
  7. Gorgeous Patrice! This one was sorely tempting me. Glad you got it -- my wallet thanks you.
  8. It's Robert E. Howard's famous Underwood No. 5 typewriter. That's actually what this page so cool imo.
  9. Then I thought, ah what the hell, why not get a second one.
  10. I've been meaning to get a page from one of Tomas Giorello's and Tim Truman's King Conan run and I finally did.
  11. Also they fully endorse my Zombies from the Pulps! anthology.
  12. Posted this in one the Tampa Bay Comic Con threads, but a thought you guys might enjoy it too. I hosted three panels with Brighton Sharbino (Lizzie) and Kyla Kenedy (Mika) last weekend. These two were little spitfires and the panels turned out to be a lot of fun. Enjoy!
  13. Thought you guys might appreciate this. I had the honor of hosting the panel with Caity Lotz at the Tampa Bay Comic Con last weekend.
  14. Pat, did you see all the UK sf paperbacks that Lloyd Curry just listed?! http://www.lwcurrey.com/searchResults.php?action=catalog&category_id=20264&orderBy=author&recordsLength=100&browseLetter=A&utm_source=constantcontact&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=newsletter
  15. Another one I've never heard of - and the date is surprisingly early. Love the cover! Mundy was a theosophist, and he often incorporated esoteric and occult traditions in his stories. But it is early -- most westerners weren't exposed to the Shambhala/Shangri-La concept until Hilton's Lost Horizon in 1933 and that of course started a number knock-offs.
  16. If Mark's book also included stories that featured monkeys and orangutans he could add these to his list. "That Receding Brow" by Max Brand from All-Story Weekly (February 15, 1919). And, "Monkey Eyes" by Erle Stanley Gardner Argosy (July 27, 1929). These great! And name author too. And that Moon Pool cover!
  17. Oh that's perfect! Of course the grail story for this collection would be Gorilla of the Gasbags. I've tried several routes to contact owners of that rare Zeppelin Stories but so far no luck.
  18. This one I'd love to have someday. ERBzine has a nice write up on Monanhan as well. http://www.erbzine.com/mag16/1671.html http://www.erbzine.com/mag16/1672.html
  19. Here are a few of my All-Story pulps with Monahan covers. P.J. Monahan Biography: Link April 8, 1915 I didn't know you had these! Wow!
  20. Also I really, really love the P. J. Monahan covers like the one above from the early 20's Argosys.
