  1. BTW, Dwight, If you read this, I wasn't sure if you wanted me to use your name when I discussed the copy you traded for the Shadow pulps, so I just referred to you as "a pulp collector." I'll add your name if you want me to.
  2. BTW, in somewhat pulp-related news, a new copy of A Gent from Bear Creek was just discovered. Here's my write-up: http://www.thecimmerian.com/?p=13975
  3. Recent pick-up with a Norm Saunders cover (well actually two covers).
  4. Thanks John. The original print run was probably less than a hundred or so, so yes I can't imagine that there would be much more than a dozen of these still in existence.
  5. There's an "R" in the corner so I'm guessing he did. I know I've seen this drawing reproduced somewhere before, but I can't remember where.
  6. So, as I said I didn't win any of the copies of The Phantagraph in the Adventure House auction, but I did know the person who won the three issues with the REH essay "The Hyborian Age." He is a well know Howard scholar, and he was kind enough to sell me his undercopy of the 2/36 issue since he upgraded. Picking this up also inspired me to start a series on collecting REH fanzines for my Cimmerian column: http://www.thecimmerian.com/?p=13573
  7. And speaking of fanzines, this was waiting for me when I got home today. This is the February 1936 issue of The Phantagraph, an early fanzine published by Donald Wollheim. It is extremely scarce! It has contributions by Lovecraft and Clark Ashton Smith, but it is most noteworthy for being the first published appearance of Howard's essay, "The Hyborian Age."
  8. I just began a series for The Cimmerian on collecting REH fanzines, if anyone's interested: http://www.thecimmerian.com/?p=13573
  9. Yeah, that was my thought too. Very Frazetta-like. I think St John had a lot of influence on Frazetta.
  10. Cool book! Calkins doing a Buck Rogers knock-off? Weird.
  11. Thanks BZ. I can't believe I have one that you don't have.
  12. Cool Adventure! Those are beautiful All-Storys, BZ! Here is the one book i managed to pick up that Scrooge mentioned. I had a huge wantlist, but everything except this one was taken already.
  13. The All Story with the Warlord of Mars cover was the one I really wanted but I wasn't fast enough. I also got outbid in the auction on the Phantagraph issues with "THe Hyborian Age." They went for several times the estimated value.
  14. I don't often post pulps in the comic cigar thread, but I thought a Tarzan pulp from 1914 might be worthy.
  15. Here was the only thing I managed to get during the Adventure House auction/sale:
  16. Thanks JohnT! Am I wrong, or did Leigh Brackett get a screenplay credit on the first Star Wars? I always found that an interesting connection between the Star Wars franchise and the pulps... Sorry if this is slightly off topic. It was Empire. She wrote the first draft, but then passed away before the second. Lucas was a big fan of her pulp stories. (thumbs u
  17. Who can resist hot chicks and cephlapods? Great book Joe!
  18. Congrats Ryan! It's worth holding out for a good copy of this one.
