  1. Thanks to JohnT for some GA goodies. Well packed and shipped quickly.
  2. I submitted some of my nicer raw Kings recently. I'm very happy with the outcome. The #1 was previously a PLOD -- had the resto removed and it still maintained it's grade. The #17 is a stunning copy and it made me all warm and fuzzy to see the CGC 9.2 grade. I purchased the #12 as a Lost Valley copy with the COA, but I had no clue that the #14 belonged to the same pedigree. Sweet! Excuse the wonky photos.. I don't have a slab scanner yet.
  3. No mylars or shiny CGC cases?! With all those books lying around someone might actually *ack* read them.
  4. Cool book, but it makes me wonder.. Where do you pick up something this screwed up? The printer's dumpster? These don't actually make it to the comic shops, do they?
  5. ebay seach for 'apexnovelties': The User ID you entered was not found. Please check the User ID and try again. Is that the right user id?
  6. Ya know.. I've pressed a book or two in my day ( ) but I've never seen results like the ones you've posted -- even after humidifying the book first. I find it very hard to believe that you only used one quick pass of steam on the front and back of the book. In my experience, the book would have to be quite damp to squeeze out those wrinkles. Are you giving us the whole story?
  7. Nice! Such cool covers on this series. What does the interior art look like?
  8. Ted @ SuperWorld set me up with this beautiful Four Color 168. One of my favorite Sagendorf covers. Love those colors! Upgraded my freakish miscut copy:
  9. Picked this up from Doug Sulipa's site (I still need a 158 if anyone has a copy FS)
  10. ..but at least sales were up in the teenage girl demographic. Great posts, Flee!
  11. I'm almost done reading the series (then on to the prequel mini-series), and I'm curious -- why did he call it Bone? Why did he name the the race of little white guys with big noses Bones? Why do Fone Bone and Phoney Bone have such phonetically similar names?
  12. If you only saw the left half of this spread, it would be at the top of the double entendre list I thought the same thing.. I kinda think the ambiguity was intentional in this case.
  13. .. still reading. Up to the 7th volume. Although I've loved the story thus far, I have to say the 'ghost circles' kinda felt contrived and just not appropriate for the comic book medium.. a bunch of issues are devoted to them trying to out maneuver something that isn't even visible. Everything else is
  14. Great info.. very helpful. Saves me the trouble of hunting for books that don't exist.
  15. Thanks! ..but it probably looks better in scans than in-hand. I grade it a F-.
  16. Cherry Poptart Facebook fan club.. Welz is a member. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=33336441574 Some REALLY great storyboard art in the photos section.
  17. Still in the bag! Nice! Here's the only copy of this book I've managed to get. The story and art is pretty bad.. but who cares.
  18. Very cool and informative thread! I didn't realize there were so many Whitman variants. So let me get this straight.. For each issue I have to find the Gold Key copy, the Whitman yellow logo copy, the Whitman white logo copy, and the possible Whitman price variant copy. I thought I was closing in on completing the end of my Popeye run, but thanks to this thread I realize that even if I have a copy of every issue, I'm still only about 1/3 to being complete. Trying to find all the variants actually adds to the fun, though. I just picked up some Whitman Popeye file copies from Metropolis this weekend. The inside splash page has some handy information about where the content of the book came from and when it was published. "22 pages + cover new .. rest from v1. no 18".. meaning that there is a GA Popeye Sagendorf story reprinted in the back. File copies.. <3 I also picked up this high-grade white logo Popeye earlier in the year. Only white logo I have so far.
  19. Thanks to Rich_Henn for getting my book signed in Baltimore and submitted in NYC. Here's the result. I'm quite happy. Evan Dorkin said he signed it neatly because his signature is ugly and he hasn't seen a copy this nice since they were first printed.
  20. March of Comics #37 -- Not a valuable book, but one that has eluded me for a while. Just picked up this copy on ebay. Was overgraded a point or two, but at least it was affordable.
