  1. There is no low, high or about right when someone spends 250K. There is only, "He could, and did."
  2. Some incredible pieces, too https://comics.ha.com/c/search-results.zx?Ne=1058&N=52+792+4294938124+1067+&Ntk=SI_Titles-Desc&Nty=1&Ntt=Brogan&limitTo=all&ic5=CatalogHome-ActionArea-Search-071515
  3. Yes, guess that made me bidder 3 at 2500... but am not sure why a later bid than yours didn't include the next full increment higher. Love the cover, still remember how vivid it was on the rack... if it wasn't for 2 pages in next month's HA auction calling my name, I would have made a better effort last night.
  4. Selling comics might be a necessity for some of these seniors... https://finance.yahoo.com/news/guess-many-americans-successfully-retire-171702140.html
  5. Congrats to whoever sniped me on the Joe Q Ray cover... have fond memories of that limited series

  7. 2 Kirby Miracle Man pages on Comic Connect tonight, both results were anemic. Between this, all the new Forever People pages sitting unsold on Burkey's site, and a number of scattered auctions over the past year it looks like the air has really gone out of the Bronze Age Kirby market.
  8. The S&P500 was 3756 on 12/31/20 and closed at 4766 on 12/31/21. I can do the math for you, if you like.
  9. The S&P500 is up 15% since last Nov. 30 and 19% since January alone. If you believe this is a bear market, maybe you should have someone else do your investing.
  10. I retired at 51 and daytrade for fun using an established charting methodology. My charting simply tells me we may be looking at an event similar to the dotcom crash (i.e., 10 years to return to the highs) but broader based. I'm not speaking from emotion, but from data derived from charts. I could certainly be wrong, but I avoided losses in 2008 and 2020 (wasn't trading in 99) so I have a little confidence in my methods. As the old investment advisor saying goes, "Do your own due diligence." For the record, never met Gene nor do I know him personally. I do know his reputation for financial acumen, however.
  11. IF it holds 430 next month, we should be in for one more push to 650 in the spring. That will probably mark the ATH for the market, and then things fall apart for a very long (5 years+) time. As opposed to 2008 and 2020, there will be no "buy the dip" opportunity for the average investor.
  12. Hakes... they are the top sellers of political memorabilia these days and 60s items sell well
  13. That is simply not true. When I got back from Europe in 1999 I bought thousands of Silver and Bronze Age comics from eBay over the next 4-5 years and rarely had an issue. Why? B/c most sellers used scanners, which did a great job of showing every tiny nick and wrinkle. If you took your time and knew grading, you did well -- no plastic case was required. AND you could read your find
  14. The idea of "comics purists" on a board hosted by the very company whose sole intent was to convert comics from cheap, readable media to encased, untouchable commodities is rich
  15. If you have over 10,000 pages, it might be slightly appropriate 😆
  16. Clinically, that is true “Individuals with hoarding disorder exhibit hyper-sentimentality, in which possessions are seen as part of the self, echoing the self-identity motive in psychological ownership, and the use of possessions as safety signals, echoing the motive to have a place/find personal security in psychological ownership,” Dr Chu explained.
  17. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, yes Bill you are right. I made an inference based upon the proportion of ads to content on CAF, and I guess that was wrong. Cheers
  18. Were you invested in the stock market in 2008 or 2020? Did you lose money? If you weren't in the market in 2008, did your home decline in value in the years afterward? I'm simply saying the party is ending next year, to be careful and to prepare financially. I had a friend who lost 50% of his 401k in 2008; I retired, while he has continued to work to make up for those losses. Saying "Everything is fine" doesn't help your account when a Lehman Bros capsizes the financial system -- and an event of that size is coming again.
