  1. Pretty severely. If the crease was just on the cover, 6.0, but probably as low as 4.0 because it looks like it affects every page.
  2. Looks like it might have a light stacking band, which would limit it to 9.4 disregarding any other defects.
  3. For a CGC grade, you can actually get a 9.8 with a "small", unobtrusive store stamp, although I suspect that might apply only to vintage books. No one knows exactly what "small" is, though, except CGC. Very doubtful it could be cleaned.
  4. Picked up a lot of Four Colors from Heritage for the Barks' ducks it contained. Came with these 3 nice non-duck books.
  5. An address sticker on the cover will max you out at an 8.0 according to CGC's grading book.
  6. 7.0, maybe 7.5 with a press. I think the crease on the right front edge is the limiting factor.
  7. Six points this round - 17 total. One bullseye, three off by one, and 3 off (low) on the Lois Lane. Waiting for the dreaded round 4!
  8. Submitted. I feel like this round was easier than the last, so I will probably do twice as bad!
  9. Escaped disaster! 6 pts with 2 bullseyes and 2 one off, but Mopsy 1 wounded me with 4 pts. I was so focused on the missing piece I completely missed the stain right above it.
  10. Wild stabs in the dark submitted. I'll be happy with 10 or less this round.
  11. Per CGC's grading book, the max grade for a 1" spine split is 7.0.
  12. This is a very low price for an ASM 238, about $500 lower than the most recent lowest, according to GoCollect. But I think it's also a gift 9.8, with at least 2 spine ticks and a corner crease. Reholder scam possibility? The Amazing Spider-Man #238 (Marvel, 1983) CGC NM/MT 9.8 White | Lot #19908 | Heritage Auctions (ha.com)
  13. For recently graded comics, including this one, CGC now has hi-res images on their cert page. I checked this one and I agree the 9.8 is questionable except for the spine corner wear, which is usually attributed to production bindery issues and not counted against 9.8s and below.
  14. I haven't looked at Overstreet's guide comprehensively in over 35 years - just got back into the hobby. CGC's guide is specific in some areas, but very vague in others, such as stains.
  15. I think the staining and wear probably had the biggest impact. CGC really, really hates stains. Spine stress lines are so common that you routinely see them in all the high CGC grades, fewer and fewer as the grade increases, of course. Edit: Also, that long, vertical crease along the spine in the purple box probably had a big impact, too. That would probably be classified as a reader's crease, not spine stress lines, which are horizontal.
  16. The guide does provide at least one example that I've remembered. A 1" color-breaking corner crease on the front cover maxes the grade out at 8.0, while the same defect on the back cover maxes out at 8.5.
  17. Ok, my reply was a bit flippant, and since this is the newbie section, here are the warning signs I found: 1. Zero feedback seller. 2. One poor picture of a very expensive item. 3. Seller says it is a graded CGC comic, but no slab is evident in the picture. 4. Seller provides a CGC cert number, which is indeed an AF 15, but the books don't match. 5. Seller's book has "NOT FOR RESALE" and "SPIDER-MAN COLLECTIBLE SERIES VOLUME 1" on the front cover, which is not on the original.
