  1. Picked up this beauty recently. As far as I can tell, the cover image doesn't appear on any US edition Archie comic. Looking at the expression on his face, do you think 'Reggie' might be short for 'Registered Sex Offender'? Just a thought... Here's the UTC page - apparently chlorophyll was the molecule of the moment for a while in the 1950s, appearing in a wide range of products and health food settings. In this story Jughead decides to produce chlorophyll hair tonic, but rather than 'squeezing grass' he uses green paint. Alleged hilarity ensues.

I think it might be original, or maybe adapted from a story panel. I can't see it on any Archie-related cover in the GCD and when I posted it in the GA Archie thread nobody else could place it either.
  3. I thought I'd ask here, while Australian Archies were almost still topical. I picked this up on the weekend, completely because of the excellent GGA cover. I can't find a corresponding American edition with this cover, and I looked at Archie, Pep and Reggie on the GCD. Anyone able to place it?
  4. Nice Harry. Don't you love undergraded books? Though underpriced ones are right up there (see my latest post). From the sound of it your quote should have been: "Mon dieu Capitan L'America - your mother was a hampster and your father smelled of elderberries. I fart in your general direction. Now go away, or I shall taunt you a second time."
  5. OK, now with a steaming pile of student essays in the rear vision mirror, I have a few things to catch up on in this journal. Let's start with this one. Long time followers will know that I'm not usually a big fan of the EC gruesome horror stuff but, for whatever reason, this cover really amuses me with its over the top grossness. There was a copy around this grade on Heritage a month ago, but it soared well past my price point. Then this one popped up here on the boards just a few days later. Here's the final page of the cover story. That last panel is so stupid, for the same reason the ending of Kafka's The Trial is stupid - "for I am dead".
  6. If the holes are always on the bottom margins, I think they are 'gripper holes' from where the paper was pulled through the presses. They are a normal part of production of comics at the time.
  7. There's a list with the numbers of all Gaines file copies. I have images on my old hard drive. I'm sure someone else will chime in with it, but I can dig it out tomorrow if needs be.
  8. You mean like this one? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TUROK-SON-OF-STONE-22-FR-G-1-5-DELL-COMICS-DECEMBER-1960/131622433934
  9. I'm looking forward to the Dell thread. I only discovered recently that there were at least two Australian-printed books with Dell logos on them and pence prices. So little work done on these books!
  10. I think conserved labels require archival material and an A designation. This one is a B, so i think that might be the reason.
  11. There are many Australian comics from the 1940s and 50s that are essentially impossible to find for sale, though I imagine they could be prised out of the few know collections for enough money. But you can't just Google them up.
  12. It's the only one I've ever seen. I asked a couple of other Australian collectors and they've never seen it. Until I scanned this it wasn't in the GCD or Ausreprints. So I don't think they're plentiful!
  13. Reporting for duty. Not sure this belongs here, not being in the 1-10 or #50 range, but I figure it will just about pass muster.
  14. I'm sure you could. It would fit into a slab and CGC would take your money happily enough, but why would you bother? You would get a NG (no grade) of a 90s reprint comic.
  15. Your instincts seem to be about right. I have a WDC&S that I would grade at 8.5 if not for a 1cm tear on the back cover top edge. It came out of a 6.5 slab.
