  1. Wow, what a coincidence. I just Googled for an image and it was the best one. It's no surprise that a boardie owned it, but very serendipitous that it was yours!
  2. Hey, thanks so much guys. I'm glad you like what you find here. I was going to hold this off until tomorrow, but I got in a batch of Australian FH reprints today, so I'll still have something to share over the next couple of weeks. For @porcupine48 and @Artboy99, here's the #3 in that UK Planet run. There were five of them in total, but I passed on #4 and #5 because they have covers I have on later US editions anyway. I probably shouldn't have - I wonder if they're still around. Anyhoo, #3 has a recoloured version of #18. These are probably the only way I'll own some of these early covers. And here's how it originally looked (not mine).
  3. I'm almost scared to post another Planet cover, but I don't see any sign of bovine appendages on this one, so it might be safe. Here's #2 in the UK run. The cover is a reprint of the US edition #23.
  4. That sound you can hear is me trying to unsee that mental image.
  5. B&W, with red highlights on the splash pages of each story. Nice paper stock too. Thanks for reminding me that I forgot the UTC shot. I didn't want to scan this because of the square binding, so this will have to do:
  6. OK, I still haven't got around to all of the books I've purchased recently. I've been saving a few for the right time. Which is now, apparently. As followers of this august journal would know by now, I'm a big fan of the Australian Planet Comics series. But that series started with covers from the US editions that began with numbers in the 60s. I have plenty of US copies that predate that, but the early Planets are generally more expensive than I'm interested in paying. Enter the 1951 UK series, which feature early Planet Comics covers, and are nice thick square bound books with lots of stories in them. I bought these in a private sale, and deciding on what was a reasonable price was next to impossible, because there is no public sales data I could find. But seller and buyer were happy, and I'm very pleased to have them. Here's #1, with a cover from the US #19.
  7. I like this idea very much. It's the comics equivalent of a desert island disc. Safe to say that our purge survival lists don't overlap! (Though mine would have an Action Comics on it - #58) I'm also interested that you sold 40% of your previous list. Change of interest, or economic reality if you wanted to chase the ones ranked higher?
  8. "Pretty sure that's a key issue - I recognise the cover."
  9. Wow - you'd think running the same cover on different publications a couple of weeks apart might lose you some sales of the second one...
  10. In parallel to buying war bonds themed comics, I've been slowly picking up magazines from July 1944 with the E-series war bonds on the covers. My plan is to build a 1940s style newstand and display a range of magazines in it. Here are a few recent pickups. They're really interesting reading, but some of them have really cool artwork too. This 'Look' magazine is too big to fit on my scanner at 10" x 13". I scanned the art for you to see in closeup. I only wish this was on a comic book cover! CGC would probably note 'Impaled Hitler and Hirohito' P.S. For those who came in late, I just updated all of my images on the earlier pages of this thread, which had disappeared thanks to Photobucket. There's more to look at in those early pages now.
  11. Great, it's always good to cross one off the wants list. I have the two CAGs on my list, but I've never wanted them enough to chase them. Even my inner completist can't get enthused! What I could get excited about is a Funny Animals #6, which I have wanted forever. I noted your #3 above, and realised I missed it when compiling my list, so that's in the 'active hunt' list too.

    Silver Flash 40

It really is. It's an oversized comic too, so it's quite striking.

Oct 1954 - reprints Hal Foster strips
  14. You bet it is. I really like Hal Foster's work. Mrs AJD (who is probably an even bigger fan than I am) bought me this as a birthday present recently:
  15. I pulled this out of a "$4 each" box in an antique store on the weekend. Not high grade, but I like it. Hal Foster throughout.
  16. Hangin' on the telephone - Blondie (double points for this one) I am Pegasus - Ross Ryan (Let me be your) Teddy Bear - Elvis
  17. At the risk of being more of a geek than anyone here (and that's setting the bar pretty high), any curve can be approximated by a straight line if you don't go too far. The 'price per point' will sorta kinda work if the curve is straightish. Here's a curve I interpolated from the Overstreet relative values back when I was trying to work out prices for the 'in between' grades. As others have said, up until about 6.0 a straight line fit is OK. After that not so much.
  18. OK, I'm officially envious now. I've been chasing Australian FH reprints pretty keenly these last few years and I have a fraction of this collection. I've bought every Australian Planet I've seen in the past three years, other than a #21 for which I was the underbidder last year (is that the one you have?) - and I have just seven of them! Likewise for Kaanga (7 of those) and Firehair (3). At this rate we can compare our complete runs some time in 2037.
  19. You will find it hard to compete with that. Do you happen to know if he pays a spotter's fee? If not, that could be your comparative advantage. (I've been mulling over ways to overcome a similar standing arrangement.)
