  1. Ha ha - I'm happy to accept responsibility for that Jon. Lovely copy of a great comic book. Walt Kelly's letter to the readers inside the front cover is worth the price of admission by itself. One day I'll get around to transcribing it for the boards.
  2. You should be. Those are really nice copies. Too bad I didn't think of it earlier but I should have suggested a swap for the Little Rascals FC for this one Duck I don't need but have kicking around. Oh well. Nice thought, but as it happens I have that one. It has my favourite ever Barks story in it - the beautiful economics parable that starts with a tornado picking up Scrooges money. When friends make the make mistake of asking me why I like Disney comics, they usually end up with the volume of the Barks library open to that story. Mostly there are no further questions. I like to think that's because they have seen the light...
  3. This is me after going to the post office yesterday: Here's why. Exhibit A is the initial item in the southern hemisphere chapter of the beak abuse appreciation society: Those of you with longish memories might remember my bizarre rant in defence of the cover of #108 when you were talking about it. You were very polite when pointing out that you were all talking about FC108 and I was ranting about WDCS108. Anyhoo... I decided that I really needed a 108 for myself. I found this nice one: And I bought these two nice ones from the same dealer. I remain very pleased.
  4. Err, how do you feel about sending it locally? Done - PM me and we'll organise it.
  5. Glad you liked them. Great Walt Kelly comics - every home should have some.
  6. I have a copy of FC 1137 (Little Rascals) that came with a lot of comics I bought. It's probably 3.0 ish (no killer flaws, but spine roll). I don't want it, and I'll send it free to any of you FC collectors who does. (Postage $4)
  7. Wow - that 9.6 is certainly a beautiful book. But what you are describing is simply the law of diminishing returns. Of course there is not much difference between a 9.2 and a 9.6 and of course the 9.6 is a little bit nicer. The question we all have to answer (well, those of us with limited comics budgets anyway) is where we sit on the grade/$ curve. For me, if I could have every book in my collection at 8.5 I'd be a happy camper. I love the really high grade stuff, but the bucks required to own them usually put me off. Only you can answer the question-and only for you. I'm sure that answer helped no-one.
  8. 14 of 24 and coincidentally my 14th as well. It's not a FC 178 in 9.6, but I like it! That's not spine roll, it's printed a bit off-centre. I've mentioned that the production quality wasn't done by the A team on these... For the shooters among you, Donald is shown shooting left-handed* - as all sensible people do - in the big picture drawn by an unknown artist, and right-handed by Barks. Question: did Barks always draw DD right-handed? (I've never thought about this before and now I have to check some other stories to see!) *Strictly speaking, left-eyed.
  9. Wow - Hank, that is a thing of true beauty.
  10. I know what you mean - these books have real appeal. If the local post office hadn't returned a parcel to the US for no good reason, I'd have some of my own to post here. Maybe in another couple of weeks.
  11. Allow me to be the first... Oooo - and nice PQ too.
  12. That's Scrooge returning from a trip to Australia - I'm glad the books made it over safe and sound!
  13. Color touch! Bondage cover too. Great copy of a great book that I've never heard of. OS price is over the top but probably realistic given the scarcity and chances of finding one in nice condition. It looks like there was a partial reprint (68 out of 212 pages) in 1991. Anyone have one to compare? Jack As it happens, I think one of those reprints is on Australian ebay today.
  14. My apologies. But if I see another one I'll let you guys know. This is either the second one I've owned, or one I've owned twice. (If that makes sense.) I'm keeping it this time though.
  15. With the Aussie dollar bumping around in the low 60s against the USD lately, I've revisited my collection of Australian Disneys. Here's a couple of recent arrivals that I think have no US counterpart. There were 11 Fethry Duck issues in the G series (a bit like the FC series) and I now have 9 of them. I've never seen O. O. Duck anywhere else (this is certainly his only cover title in the Australian run). And then there's this one. At first look it may seem out of place in the duck thread, but it was the back cover I was after. This is (as far as I know) the only Barks work that made its debut in Australian comic. (The gag got bumped for an ad in the US edtition.) There were more Australian issues of Lil Bad Wolf than ran in the US, so they were cobbled together with various odds and ends, and this one-pager somehow ended up in this 1961 comic. Cheers, Andrew
  16. Nice one. I bought one of these a while ago from Todd Klein (which is kind of nice given his association with Don Rosa's work), but they routinely go for over $100 on eBay. In time I think this will be a hard to find issue. I wrote to the Overstreet folk and pointed out the scarcity and price of this one - which is not reflected in any price guide - and mentioned that even Bruce Hamilton was buying them back for $50 in 2004. I don't suppose the new guide will be changed, but this is an issue you won't find at guide!
  17. Excellent books! I need the WDC&S in case you do decide to sell So do I if you decide to auction... Excellent books indeed. Well, Ciorac gets first dibs on the WDC & S but the other two are listed in the Forum Selling area right now with nice discounts off of 2007 OSPG prices. If Ciorac passes I'll offer the book to you! (thumbs u Fair enough too - my comment was intended as a little joke. Go for it Bill. (thumbs u

  19. I don't - yet. But this is a great resource. Next rainy weekend...
  20. Just picked up a couple of nice Australian WDC&S. No31 is April 1949 and No 243 is 1966. (We changed from the British pounds, shillings and pence to dollars and cents in early '66.) The sixpence (6d) issue has only four colour pages internally. All of the rest are B&W. Both Walt Kelly covers, I believe. (Shameless plug time: I have Pogo and duck books for sale over on the selling thread.) Cheers, Andrew.
  21. I just got two absolutely smoking Pogo books from 143ksk. Thanks Steve!
  22. Here's one from me. Was anyone better at funny animal covers than Walt Kelly?
  23. Nice get Matthew. That is one sweet book and one high on my must buy list. I'm waiting on acouple of nice ducks myself - I have joined the beak abuse appreciation society!
  24. Great start to a GA collection Spidey!! Once she is gone, you'll have more money. Use some to by Arklites for youe slabs. Hmmm - that certainly wasn't my experience... but I did have more space for comics, so a partial win.
