  1. IMO, this is all on the Buyer. How can his expectations be better than what the picture shows ? The OP's whole argument hinges on the use of the term 'nice'. Not sure why he even posted this here. What does he want from us, validation that he was wronged ? 17 bucks seems a bit petty to go viral with. Sorry.
  2. Great copies of the Tales of the Unexpected, a very underrated title. 1st time I've ever seen the #21 before.
  3. Great looking books. Love the date stamp. Are these from any pedigree ?
  4. It may well indeed get in the 7.5-8.0 area. I saw some spine creases, one of which was somewhat large. It also looks like there is a corner crunch on the bottom left ?As stated, the pics are bit blurry, but it may indeed look better in hand. The top edge looks very nice. This is a hot book, if it's a reasonable price I would grab it.
  5. Nice book. The miswrap will not affect the grade but it will affect the desirability for some buyers. This book is famous for it's miswrap with part of the 'M' in Marvel usually missing. However, this wrap is exceptionally off with no 'M' visible at all. Not the greatest pics but, as is, I see a 6.5, maybe 7.0 .
  6. Love it when a years old thread gets resurrected for no good reason. Regarding smell, nothing is worse than tobacco smell on a comic. It also contaminates everything around it. Serious question, does the CGC slab contain any odors ?
  7. I agree though I missed all the good stuff. I must live in the wrong time zone.
  8. I don't think a File copy designation adds any financial value but it may help with a sale. Similar to a CVA sticker type of concept , says this book looks good !
  9. Last time I won some books from CC, I waited a month and a day before I finally called. Turns out there was a problem that got resolved once I called. They really should have called me ? My point here............. call them !!!!
  10. I wonder what security Nicholas Cage had when his Action #1 was stolen. I think he did have insurance and it became problematic years later when his Action #1 was retrieved. Technically it now belonged to the insurance company. I don't recall the final outcome of all that. Good times.
  11. Good detective work. It seems to be the same copy. Unless the signature was witnessed by CGC, they will not recognize it. The book will probably get a green Qualified label for the signature. Between the Qualified label and the resulting decrease in grade, it was a bad decision by the previous owner. Sorry but I have no idea how much the sticker will hurt. At this grade level, I would hope not too much, maybe a 7.0.
  12. With books at this level, scheduling them on an insurance policy would be easier if they were slabbed.
  13. Actually, the FC has a large bottom right corner crease. That crease alone puts it around 5.5 . Besides the large piece missing, the bottom left corner has a huge impact ding with a real tear. I'm thinking somewhere in the 3.0 ish range.
  14. Wow, nice copy of a very tough book. Unless I'm missing something, it looks like 8.5/9.0 territory. Great eye appeal.
  15. That's a lot of writing, which also means a lot of indentation. To be honest, I wouldn't bother submitting this book. I think you will be disappointed with the grade. It will probably hold it in the 8.0/8.5 range.
  16. FYI, this is not an easy book to do the math on. There are 0 currently listed for sale, either raw or graded. There is no recorded sales data for a SS. Only 32 graded in total with only a few recorded sales in the past two years, again 0 for SS . As far as 'looking up the values', where ? Nothing I would trust as accurate.
  17. CGC, for the most part, will not take the PQ into consideration for the grade. However, considering the fact that the book is copper and not that vintage they may take it into account, not sure. A copper CR/OW page quality will definitely affect the price.
  18. I don't understand, are you doing this just for the financials = you are planning on selling it ? If it's a keeper, leave it alone. This book is so expensive, if you do submit, I would first make sure it was scheduled on a private insurance policy. IMO, sticking a 5K+ book in the mail without proper coverage is crazy. Personally, I would submit it with a same day tier and not get the signature. This does not preclude you from getting a signature in the future. Getting a fast turnaround of a few days will ease the stress !
  19. Ken, thanks. When I picked up these books I had to pay more for the #66 because the dealer also recognized it as very rare.
  20. Sorry but that is a terrible pic, can't make out anything. No Back cover pic either ? I buy the book, not the label, so I can't bid on something I can't see any detail on.
  21. BTW, the same type of situation can occur with staples. Detached @ Front cover but attached to Back cover. Normally a detached staple gets a Green Qualified Label but if it is still attached to the Back cover, it will be a Blue Universal, with a hit to the grade.
  22. That's a cool story and a nice touch by CGC . I trust, in the future, you will send your books to be pressed by CCS instead of a 3rd party individual. Without debating the quality of pressing, I really think there is advantage to getting a freshly pressed book to the graders as soon as possible.
  23. I think the piece missing at the top of the Back cover, which is not a production chip, hurt the grade. Can't tell but I also suspect there was some interior tanning. Looks like there were multiple locations of staining. I would have thought a tad better than 4.0 but I don't really see how some here graded it as high as 6.0 ?
  24. Yes, that is a BIG difference and probably explains everything else that happened, high grade, not on label, etc. I'm glad you clarified it. However, believing what you originally said, I personally made a fool of myself by contacting CGC with this. @CGC it's a big never mind, sorry !
