  1. I agree. This thread has little insight or value anymore. Nothing but the rah rah crowd who get quiet when the prices are no longer setting records.
  2. This thread has suddenly got quiet. I guess the party is over. 22K for the 4.0 CC copy with Marvel chipping.
  3. There was an example on the Boards where a double cover graded lower than either cover. The Reason.................Page Quality. The PQ was Tan to Off White, something like that, and in that case CGC has a grade threshhold. I believe the threshhold is roughly 9.0 . I'm sure someone can find it and show us this example again.
  4. The staples look fine, in fact they are in excellent shape. It's a cool book and presents well. Judging by the location of that creasing area it was probably like that off the shelves from 'customers' bending and flipping through the stack. Look at it this way, without that flaw, think of how more expensive the book would have been. If the flaw bothers you, it should be an easy book to sell. Otherwise, enjoy it. You have an 8.5 book that presents like a 9.0 .
  5. I don't think 1Cool's response was clear to you. You don't see the grades online until the books are in a shipped status. And by shipped, they mean picked up and out the door. Usually a couple days, maybe as long as a week. You're almost there !
  6. Cool. You have a secret stash. Keep it stealth my friend ! Stellar books. Adventure 247 is crazy tough in even mid grade.
  7. You can press it but the grade will probably not improve. Usually, these book length subscription creases, with everything else pristine, max out at 5.5.
  8. Great find. I gotta ask, is it our favorite LCS ?
  9. In this case the grader's notes are telling you that the creasing mentioned is causing the 8.5 . Even though there are other flaws, they are not mentioned because it doesn't matter. Those left center, color breaking creases are the problem and they will not be removed with a press. IMO, be happy with an 8.5 as it appears to be a generous grade. I would not be surprised to see it come back next time as an 8.0 . Sorry.
  10. Wow. Great book. George Romero died shortly after this signing.
  11. Congrats on the grade. This book has tremendous eye appeal. Also notice how the overall appearance of the book is very fresh with the back cover very white. Well, see what they gave the Page Quality - WHITE. In most cases, White pages means the book has a fresh look about it. Great book, all around !
  12. I would have thought the use of MC paper was a good thing, the more the better. However, recently, on the Boards, someone claimed, personal experience, that using too much of the paper can cause staples to detach. I must admit, it makes sense, especially if you use too many sheets. I think using only one, maybe two is the way to go.
  13. I was just thinking, I am tired of seeing all these auctions going through the books in alphabetical order. Action is always first and X-Men last. It would be fun and interesting to mix it up a little. If I don't win anything by the time the auction is 2/3 done, I usually walk away as there not as much at the end of the alphabet for me as at the beginning. I'm sure other collectors feel the same way and interest in the auction fades at the end. Kind of like a 31 - 3 score in the 4th quarter of a football game, change the channel. Just having Spidey at the end would really keep up the interest. C'mon you auction houses. Show some creativity, make it fun, mix it up a little !
  14. Agree but you never know how high the winning bidder would have gone. His max bid could have been to the moon. In some cases, I think certain players put in an uber high bid to make sure they win, especially on single highest graded, variants, etc.
  15. Wow, two excellent pickups. I was considering bidding on both of these but decided to pass on the whole auction. I really like the Winnipeg Pedigree. White Pages rule !
  16. There is no easy answer to your question. The books need to have flaws that a press can help, otherwise, it is a waste of money. Showing them in the PGM thread will allow us to help (don't post pics in this thread). Then let's say you want to get them pressed, there are more decisions. Do you get it pressed before the signing or after the signing . Also, don't forget pressing will add more calendar time to the whole process, not to mention the cost.
  17. The postman just delivered this. I know The Atom is a second tier DC comic but some of these covers, with the predicaments Atom gets himself into, are pretty cool. Mass Pedigree copy with White pages, old label goodness. Thinking about cracking this open !
  18. Why don't you have the notes ? They are available to you as a submitter. For most of us, your complaints are 'been there done that'. You have to your homework and learn. The only suggestion I can make is to submit your books with a prescreen for a certain grade. Also, join the community here and participate in the Please Grade My thread.
  19. Makes sense. The same should go for square bounds where glue holds the book to the cover. I've told the story before that years ago a pre-CCS Matt Nelson used to show up at conventions. For a nominal fee he would review your books while you waited for good pressing candidates. He rejected a square bound saying they should not be pressed as the heat affects the glue. Other Board pressers now say it is okay but I still wonder as the logic still makes sense. I've seen some bad examples where the spine is completely smooshed, not so much 'square' anymore but flat. Looks pretty ugly to me.
  20. Interesting. I've never had a magazine pressed before. Perhaps there is some risk.
  21. I never heard this ? There's another magazine size book that CGC would not grade until recently because of counterfeits. Maybe you are thinking of that ?
