  1. I'll acknowledge your points. You are correct, prices and price fluctuation almost have to be discussed. However, it's the same small circle of owners who keep going over the same stuff to the point of boredom and borderline gloating. I'm just suggesting they chill a little. My favorite posts are when a new copy comes up for sale and we discuss the appearance, flaws, likes and dislikes about the copy. Trying to predict pricing is interesting also. There's a lot of fun and entertaining things to talk about here that can include financials, without gloating about how much money you made on the book. IMO, personal financial situations, net worth, salary, gain/loss, etc should always be kept private.
  2. This has been brought up before and I don't believe you can check on the status. That's one of the perks of a Paid Membership. The submitter should be able to check though. I have heard stories where the store waits until they have enough for a larger submission, cheaper for them. Even if you only submit 10 books a year, it may behoove you to buy a membership.
  3. They do take 'intent' into consideration when assigning color touch. That should not be a problem on such a low grade book. This book is going to grade out very low. Not sure it was worth sending in to CGC .
  4. It's a great copy for a 4.0, nice White cover also. I do see a large crease on the bottom right corner. Also a large reader's crease parallel and next to the spine, more toward the bottom half of the book.
  5. It looks to me like this book had extensive water damage as I see some 'tide' lines and discoloration. I think the black dots and other black areas is mold. I would not keep this book. Black mold is dangerous to breathe. If it is black mold you can get really sick.
  6. You did the right thing by sending it in the slab, much safer. I'm saying this 'may' have happened when CCS cracked it open or at some other point preparing for the press. I see the black ink on the spine looks like it was peeled off. This is all very puzzling.
  7. Just another thought. Did you resub the book in the slab ? Perhaps it was damaged while removing it from the old slab. There are so many points of failure that can happen. It's not always the press itself.
  8. Didn't know you can catch a buzz on Busch Lite ! This thread can't get any more dangerous than Sharon drinking last night., LOL.
  9. First off, I am truly sorry this happened to you. I have experienced similar happenings over the years and not necessarily with CCS. I've learned to never get a personal favorite, keeper type book pressed. The financials are one thing but ruining a Pedigree, one of a kind type of book hurts even more. AS far as reimbursement, this has always been a gray area with pressers and from my experience I have never even been offered store credit, just a oops-sorry. - - I've enjoyed newly introduced staple tears. I think it's very important to look at the location of the staples tears before pressing. Some locations are more vulnerable. - I've enjoyed smeared inks. Certain inks are more vulnerable to this. - I've enjoyed newly introduced tears from the dry cleaning. - And worst of all, I've enjoyed loss of gloss. Before the all pressers out there start to counterpoint me, all I am saying is stuff happens. Even the best pressers may have a bad day or an accident. I've said it before, Matt @ CCS is as good as they come but he does not do all the pressing himself, in fact probably very little. It sounds like your book should have been spot pressed and not administered a full press.
  10. Anyone know which page has the latest list of guesses ? Tim, you didn't hide any rolls of dollars in there this year, did you ?
  11. I wasn't referring to anyone in particular but I guess using 7.0 as an example might make you think that. That was a really nice copy. I am sorry I passed on it. I had it in hand, at my house but the seller and I just couldn't agree on the arrangements. However, I am glad you got it as it is obvious you gave it a good home and really appreciate it. I would have been upset if it had gone to someone that simply pressed and flipped it. The only copy I ever owned came back as a PLOD and I eventually moved it. In today's new environment it would have had the conserved label so I made a mistake. I don't own a copy but I am still a fan and like to participate a little in this thread. Kind of like you can still like Apple products without owning the stock. I think some existing owners here just don't realize how annoying it can be to read nothing but financials. Show the love, not the profits. Thanks for listening.
  12. No, I didn't. Often the old cases are very scratched up but this one still looks good. I already have a high grade raw that I can read so I decided to keep it slabbed. In this case, I wanted to see those Mass Pedigree White Pages but I can wait. If I sell my other raw then I'll crack this. Thanks for asking !
  13. Now this is a good, heartfelt comment. This is the kind of post this thread needs. More personal stories, new additions, even alerts and comments about to new available copies would make this thread desirable again. I don't mean to be rude but if some individuals just chilled a while and stop gloating on how much their books gained in value it would be appreciated by many. It's interesting that some ran Glassman off the thread, scolded him for his constant reminder of how much he sold his book for, yet he's not the only one guilty of bragging. SO you have 13 copies of AF 15 in 7.0 and have become a multi millionaire. Great, tell us the story but once is enough.
  14. Are you suspicious that the store did not submit them ? If you called CGC and mentioned fraud, it's possible they may research it for you, not sure though.
  15. Actually, I think many are turned off by the solely financial aspects of this thread and have turned away from checking in anymore. Not sure if many of you realize it but there is a lot of gloating going on here. It's no longer a fun thread to read.
  16. Great news ! Suggestion, why don't you lock and put on hold the set and expansion thread until you can get caught up with scores adjustments. Us Vintage collectors have waited for years to have some score adjustments reflect the real world and make the registry relevant. Surely, the Modern collectors can wait a while on all their variants and obscure set requests. Thanks for listening. Make the Registry Great Again !!!!
  17. I agree. I was always in favor of restricting sales threads to having a minimum number of posts. It may be silly but we are seeing so many of these type of newbie sales threads. Something should be done.
  18. I like newbies also. I usually take the time to answer many of their questions in the newbie thread. I just get suspicious when their very first post is a sales thread, with attitude no less. I concur that some newbies are not really newbies. Yes, Happy Festivus to all !!!
  19. Hey Sharon. Glad to see you, the Voice of Reason, getting tough on the newbies. With that other newbie recently trying to sell us a counterfeit book, it makes you realize you have to keep your guard up. Without references or some sort of proper introduction who knows what these guys are up to.
  20. I had no idea Dale was auctioning books. I thought his E-Bay stuff is all BIN ? I didn't see him mention anything on the Boards, no announcements ? Maybe I'm just out of the loop.
  21. 'A great investment! Get it now before I get it slabbed and the price sky-rockets!'. I really think you should get this book slabbed. BTW, the price has already skyrocketed.
  22. I'm not sure I understand. Are you saying you will not take Paypal ? IMO, it's a scary thought to send a Money Order to a complete stranger with no references.
  23. FYI, these Boards have a WTB (Want To Buy) thread. Maybe worth a try. I think Board members, in general, would grade their books better than E-Bay. Also, watch the Board Sales threads. My advice is let the books come to you.
