Not sure I want to give these up now, so I guess I'll spring for the mylar.
Mylar is the better choice. Additionally, and don't ignore this, buy the proper size. Minimally, buy the mylar that holds Silver Age, maybe even SIlver/Golden. Don't buy Standard or Moderns. The books will be too snug and it's easy to damage taking them in and out. Sounds exciting. Have fun ! PS You should hold on to the #194, it's a good one to own !

Weird one tonight. Put in a top bid with about 15 seconds, had it won, someone out bid me, and as I was trying to upmybid the auction ended. I think "oh well" and go on to other auctions. I look back 30 minutes later and it shows I won the book, with my original top bid and the bid that had topped mine was nowhere to be seen. Can people "back out of bids" like they occasionally do on eBay? I'm not complaining, but it was weird.
The book? Well I collect GA SCI-FI and the occasional Archie, so this has been on my radar for ever....nice presenter for the grade so I paid full boat, maybe a little extra, but that's fine, it's a vault keeper.
Cool book !! I can honestly say nothing like that bidding situation you described has ever happened to me on Clink. I would say call them on Monday but I wouldn't want to chance losing this book.

Restoration was improved. Minor changes done.
Interesting, I have never experienced a restoration do over. Any chance you can expound on where there was opprotunity to improve. It's a beauty of a book. I see some creases and light surface wear and that stain on the back. Otherwise, the book looks tight, complete, with nice cover colors. Looks like 7.5 range to me. Without that stain on the back, maybe 8.0 . Is it your book or are you considering buying it ?

And thank you.
It took about 7-8 hours of working the cover to get it flat and as clean as it could be.
It felt like a 7.0 in hand, let me tell you. I just didn't want to get my hopes up because we hear all the talk here about how tight CGC is.
I think the reality is a mix between some books on the fence fall one way or another, and that some people (even veterans sometimes) just don't know how to properly grade books.
Seriously, if anything, this book demonstrates your skills. I am also glad you commented that you spent 7 - 8 hours on the book. It shows it takes a LOT of work to improve certain books. You can't just do one quick press and pass it on to grading. I think the 7 - 8 hours was well spent and it probably achieved a full point higher. Kudos to you!

Critique is fine. Saying you WOULD NOT want to pay 7.0 money for the book isn’t a critique on the book. He didn’t ask what someone would pay or not pay.
I said that because I do not believe it is a 7.0 and neither did anybody else that gave their opinion here. Yes, I am the only one that commented negatively after the grade was in. Unless I am wrong, there are no Board Rules prohibiting me from commenting on the grade of the book in a slab in a PGM thread. I stand by my opinion, I think the book was overgraded. If the book had come back a 5.5, I would have commented that he got shafted and the book was undergraded. I call them as I see them. No reason to call me out for stating my opinion.

Great book regardless of grade! Ignore the negative comments. Not sure why people feel the need to post them.
This is not a sales thread, it's a Please Grade my book thread. You honestly, really think that one should only post positive comments in a PGM thread ? What's the point in asking if you can't handle the critique ?

i did not pick this up after hoping to try, thanks to the super high price it ended at - $6,500. worth it since it's the best looking 4.5 i've ever seen. now every dealer will be pricing their yellowed, chipped 4.5 xmen 1s at $6900.
Your comment is, unfortunately, true. 6,500 is now the new minimum price going forward.

I forgot to put in a real bid after my initial tracking bid on the book I was looking at. Oh well.
I hate it when that happens !

Is this the GA bump? About one full point, right? Still its a beautiful copy, I'd love to have it in my collection!
Agreed, it's a really nice copy of a key book and I would love to have it. However, I would NOT want to pay for this copy as a 7.0 . This is one of those books where the front cover is a much higher grade than the back cover, usually resulting in a 'blended grade'. Maybe it is a GA bump, or a Friday Bump, or a 'we owe you one' bump but it does appear to have been bumped.

I don't understand your confusion. If you're reading a person's one and only post, it was obviously approved by a Mod.
No?
My comment was totally tongue in cheek. I just thought it was a terrible first post. You are correct, he did sign up in 2017, I missed that fact. I think the first post approval is something new. I would have declined him !

I was thinking the same thing. Which is why I was confused about part of a cover being replaced by a photo copy piece not being considered restored. It had to be stuck on there with tape or glue I would think.
Yes, and that is Restoration. It is usually noted as 'pieces added'.

Hello,
I am a comic investor and wanted to get some opinions on what comics to buy right now which you feel would increase substantially over the next few years.
Personally, I think FF #48 and Tomb of Dracula #10 will skyrocket.
What do you guys think?
I thought your first post has to be approved by the mods ? Just what we need, another novice comic investor. I'll let all the financial planners on these Boards advise you.

I'm sorry but since this isn't a Sales thread I must comment what everyone else is probably thinking. For all those complaining that CGC is grading too tight, they should look at this book. I just don't see a 7.0 and neither did anyone else in this thread. Maybe, possibly, on a good day 6.5 . I know you worked on this book, you must be very skilled.

Thanks for the info. In this case the ad page is fully attached, there's just one small coupon cut out of the page. Lining up a coupon in the middle of the page would be pretty difficult though I imagine. I don't think I've ever seen a married coupon on a graded book before.
I was thinking you would marry the whole page. I have no idea about just replacing the coupon. Assuming some substance would be needed to hold it in place, that would be Restoration .
-
I think it gets a Qualified grade. A married page rarely matches up exactly with the staples. Depending on the work done to get it to marry, it may lead to a Restored label.

I do. Actually I see a lot that can be improved if done correctly.
Joey, I see a long vertical Color Breaking crease near the right edge, that spine split at the bottom spine, and color breaking creases bottom right corner. Becasue of these flaws, would any improvement from a press improve the grade beyond mid grade ?
-

Ah, that makes sense. I have a few that are cut similarly to the one I posted. So if the all the pages line up, it is cut properly and isn't a roll. Thank you!
I think Quant explained the spine roll situation accurately to you, not a candidate. I would also be hesitant about pressing this book at all. First, I don't see anything a press would help and secondly, it looks like there is a spine split at the bottom. Spine splits are vulnerable to getting worse. You have a really nice mid grade book but I don't see anything 'improvable' here.

Mine has said received for 16 days, how long does it normally take overall? When I submitted it said 18 days, but that is probably without the pressing and shipping, I guess.
It depends on the tier you submitted it in, your reference to 18 days is probably the Standard tier which is now at 19 days. This is business days and yes, it is NOT inclusive of pressing and shipping. IMO, you still have a long wait. Sorry

I'm going to say that it is an acceptable 9.8 as it is one that came from shipping and 9.8 isn't a perfect score. As long as that is the only defect. This is just my humble opinion and if it comes back a 9.6 then I guess I'm wrong.
Good luck anyway.
If that happened from shipping, then it is damage and a flaw in the eyes of CGC. The only chance he has at a 9.8 is if the book is otherwise perfect and CGC is seeing this flaw on all their submissions. I say No, it will not get a 9.8, nor should it. It's an in-your-face flaw that should be downgraded. I would not be happy buying this book as a 9.8 slab.

Though I've seen this status, it would only be there briefly, never overnight. I agree that it will probably change on Monday. I've been told that when it says shipped, it literally means, shipped as in out the door. Maybe it was too late in the day and they missed the mail pickup.
