  1. I have made the observation that often the pages at or near the centerfold will sometimes be a bit 'darker' than the front pages. I wonder if the PQ assignment is a blend or an assessment of the best/worst . Analogous to the grade assigned to a book with multiple covers. In any case, I would hope a White Page assignment would be consistent throughout.
  2. Hey Lion, I have a theory about the Prescreen notes maybe you can validate. This can happen if a book passes prescreen but is rejected by a subsequent grader. Hence the book may have some grader's notes associated with it that get passed along.
  3. You are absolutely correct. Since they mostly see pressed books nowadays, they really hold it against a book with a little originality. Sad.
  4. Definitely a question that should be directed to CGC. Calling is better than E-Mail, they actually answer their phones !
  5. RMA, regarding the review, I doubt if many customers even know about it, let alone use it. It's not a service they promote or advertise, more a courtesy for regular customers. What about prescreen rejects ? I suspect the prescreen grader does not supply notes and the book does not get passed to the graders. So, if you use prescreen, your reject books would not have notes.
  6. Yes, it sounds like a bindery chip that CGC often will ignore. I believe it's still a flaw that should be deducted. It's too easy to play CGC and make an impacted corner look like a bindery chip. If someone indeed took a scissor to that corner and successfully fooled CGC into a 9.8, that's wrong.
  7. I think the answer as to why they are appearing more so in the newer generation slab, is pretty obvious. The new slabs are much more snug, resulting in more touching of the two surfaces. I'm not an engineer but if they would just loosen up the sides, like the previous generation, just a little would help. It would also facilitate the 'trick' of slipping a piece of paper through the sides. But as I said, I am not an engineer.
  8. That's not a spine roll, just off center. This book is famous for being misaligned. To fix, you would have to do a spine realignment, something CGC does not consider restoration but is very debatable. Knowing your goal is soley financial, have at it. The sticker will be a significant downgrade. Even if removed you will be able to see the shadow. IMO, best to leave alone. Nice book !
  9. That's a lot of CT, eliminating any hopes of a buyer purchasing to unrestore. Without seeing the book, Marvel chipping, page quality, etc., unless the book really has eye appeal, even 10K sounds like a stretch.
  10. Okay, I stand corrected. If CGC says it's okay, it's okay with me ! Remember, you asked the question, I just gave my opinion. BTW, I do understand your point about the benefits of having your whole submission together in one tier.
  11. Actually, I agree with you, but again I think with a couple books like BA 12 or WD #1, it's not appropriate. I think the Modern 'caps' at 200 and, before or after CGC grading, his BA 12 would have to be a rag to fall into that category. CGC has the tiers for good reason and it's more work for the back office to monitor this. I would think they have to go back and charge his CC again, make the phone call, and whatever else needs to be done. I'm sure this takes away resources for other important things. BTW, I didn't mean to suggest the graders base any grading decisions on tier, just a tongue in cheek comment. Edit: Apparently per CGC's response they are fine with this so I stand corrected.
  12. SCS is alive and well in all versions of CGC holders and the competitor's holders. I see it a lot, even on books shown here on the Boards. Often, the owner doesn't even realize it, only staring at that big number on the label. I agree with DItch that CGC is doing their job and not blindly reholdering books. Take a look at this poor guy's 3K purchase......
  13. If I was a CGC grader, I would hammer your book for trying to bypass the rules to save a few bucks. While I don't believe in over analyzing the pricing tiers, and to err on the side of the cheaper tier, I do think a BA 12 is stretching it .
  14. Good question. I suspect it has to do with the price on the book itself. Though the price may be different, both the USA and Canada have the price in cents. The price in pence just looks different. Comics are about recreating your youth, and we did not buy books with a pence price.
  15. If 1983 is the earliest, in general, these don't sound like books worth grading. Just consider grading the valuable comics. Use E-Bay Sold prices to gather information as to value.
  16. SO you are saying the inner well appears to be concave inside the holder ?
  17. I do not like the fact that you tapped the book into place. As you said, the damage is still there. You should have left it alone, sent it back to the seller as shown. You keep stalling and basically asking the same questions. I don't know what else to say or tell you and I don't understand your procrastination about this. Send it back !
  18. Then that is the creep engine version, which was discontinued. For future reference, avoid these, you want the book to have an inner well. Your book is damaged inside the slab. Return it, get your money back, file a claim, whatever you need to do, do it. You do not want to keep this book.
  19. Book looks solid but the vertex of the spine is really ragged, especially toward the bottom. Hard to give a grade without seeing the inside of the FC. Is the spine split at all ?
  20. This looks like to me like the first version of the latest slab design with no inner well. The design used pressure to hold the books in place and it became known as the creep engine design because of the slow damage that seemed to incur. This book is no longer a 9.8. It is damaged. You could approach CGC but I would let the seller deal with it. File a claim, do what you have to do, but return this book. BTW, let this be a lesson to look closely at the scans. Good Luck.
  21. Doesn't affect the grade or value. Some like the stamps, others don't. Personally, I like them, a lot ! Adds to the history.
  22. How can anything be worse than the old bags ? It seems like an improvement to me.
  23. I hate that 'it's my grail' routine, yet I continue to fall for it. I've sold too many books that I had no intention of ever selling because I thought somebody was a friend and would someday do me a solid. I've found out it doesn't work that way and they forget the 'favor' right after getting the book. To add salt to the wounds, they brag about it here and rub it in your face. I digress, sorry.
