  1. I don't think anyone here is going to give you an answer on this. First off, restoration, even for conservation reasons, is generally frowned upon by comic collectors and will greatly decrease the value. All restored books are expected to be disclosed as such when selling. Restoration should be done by a trained professional, not a DIY with advice from Home Depot.
  2. The corners look soft and though those 'stains' are small, they are still there. IMO, this book is not worth grading.
  3. Usually, the tape is there to cover up a flaw, seal a spine split or tear, attach a cover or centerfold, etc. CGC will see the flaw that the tape is attempting to hide and grade it with the flaw. As you stated, the tape, even if removed, will leave a residue or discoloration that will negatively affect the grade, sometimes big time. So basically, yes, the presence of tape will hurt the grade. Not sure what you mean by how can you stop 'it' from happening. What is 'it' ? Personally, I avoid any books with tape.
  4. I also agree with Bob #1. On a personal level, I love date stamps, but these price stamps seem bigger than most date stamps. Of course it depends on the placement. I believe I have one that is on the Back cover and it's a 9.2. I suspect CGC would only acknowledge when it's in the uber grade range.
  5. 1600 US would get you about a 6.5 Blue Universal (not restored). I think you still over paid, by a lot. Send it back. Now.
  6. As a word of caution, unless the case was damaged, I would not send a 9.9 back for a reholder. Too much risk for damage. What if the guy opening it up or the guy doing the encapsulation dings a corner. Sure, it will still have a 9.9 label but it may no longer be a 9.9 book. Also, though I like the look of the books in the new holders, I do not always like the way they are fitted in the inner well. They seem to encapsulate the book snug against an edge with a wedge applying pressure to hold it in place. Often the book looks 'stressed'.
  7. I agree with you on miswraps, but I don't think heavy Marvel Chipping needed the internet to bring it to people's attention. It's always been a Front Cover, in your face type of flaw that most dislike.
  8. I think that anyone considering submitting all their books for reholder is absolutely crazy. It's a flat out waste of money. Show some fiscal responsibility.
  9. I'm seeing a lot of flaws on this book. I think this book should grade no higher than 4.5 . I just could not assign a grade with the Fine designation in it for this book. Sorry.
  10. I don't understand how a centerfold can be detached without the paper at the staple area being torn ? If the paper is not torn, it must mean it was never stapled in the first place.
  11. It's good to hear validation of this. I remember a discussion where most thought CGC does not take off for MC. I believe it was Jaydog that led the charge for they do not take off for MC. I think the reason many people think CGC does not take off for MC is because it's only a slap on the wrist, probably because it's considered Bindery. IMO, they should grade this defect more strictly. If books with MC are consistently selling for less than the grade assigned then CGC is not doing their job properly on this flaw.
  12. I'm in the camp that says do NOT submit it. Not worth it. This is a killer flaw.
  13. The scary part for me on the 6.0 is not so much the chips that have already fallen off but with all those 'dangling chips' that can loosen up at any time. I hate it when I see those chips at the bottom of the slab. I dislike flaws that can worsen over time like rusty staples, dangling chips, and staple tears. IMO, CGC does not take off enough for any of these flaws.
  14. I buy regularly from them and never get the catalog. One time I called to discuss and they sent me a catalog, one time shot. I have no idea what criteria they use to decide who gets the catalog. In fact, I never even get E-Mails from them, nothing on bids placed, purchases, invoice, nothing, zero correspondence. I have to go to the website for all status.
  15. That top left looks like the book is wedged snugly into the corner. It's hard to tell but it also looks like that corner has a crunch. If so, this is a case of SCS (Shaken Comic Syndrome) which occurs when the book has moved inside the inner well. Sometimes this can result in damage at the staple areas, worst case detachment at the staples. There's just so many maybe's here. Send it back. BTW, IMO, this is on the seller. He could have/should have double boxed with lots of padding. You have to ship with the worst case scenario in mind.
  16. The real question is..... are the books with MC selling for a discount OR are the books without MC selling for a premium ?
  17. I don't think CGC would simply reholder the book. I think they would need to regrade it. If the grade went down, 500 would probably not cover it. IMO, it's a risk to keep it.
  18. Ouch, that's nasty. I suspect the book is probably fine but without seeing it in hand it's difficult to say. I'm sure the impact hit the inner well pretty hard. Can you see any indentation on the comic itself ? There's also the possibility the book had a violent shift inside the slab and left some damage along an edge somewhere. You would have to study the book in hand against the original pics. If you send this back in, CGC will probably need to regrade it. Personally, I wouldn't chance it and simply get a refund.
  19. I didn't say low grade books don't get notes ? I said I heard the Value tier doesn't always get notes. I've used the value tier but never for a low grade book, usually for the cheap high grade Bronze which don't seem to generate notes.
  20. You're right, there is no guarantee CGC will regard it as a MC, but the gamers will try.
