  1. Besides the piece missing you have multiple, large, long creases on both the front and back cover. That large '10' on the front looks like somebody tried to erase it. The Back cover has some tears near the spine. I also see water damage on the top left Back cover corner. I'm thinking this is about a 3.0. It is not worth grading. If you bought it for resale, it will be a tough sell to get your money back. Sorry.
  2. You never got the book reholdered ? I just took a look at the old thread now and I think CGC will require a regrade, not a simple reholder. That corner is smashed. The book will probably be fine but I would worry about losing the White Page designation. This is what I did in a similar situation. Crack it out of the outer slab but leave it in the inner well . Put the inner well into a large Mylar BAg and Board. Or, better yet, put the old inner well into a used empty slab.
  3. Why does CGC need to publish anything about how they grade defects ? It's not an analytical science, it's a subjective science. It really depends on the condition of the rest of the book. Also, the severity of the specific defect will always be different. Your gripper holes are large and look more like tears. Others may be hardly visibly. They cannot assign the same factor to both. You are trying to ascertain the grade of your book before you send it in. My advice would be to submit it, with other books, in a 9.8 prescreen. If they don't feel it is a 9.8, the book will be returned without being slabbed. All books returned without being slabbed are charged a nominal fee (5 bucks ?).
  4. The book itself, in this condition, is probably something found in the dollar bin. The book is not high grade and the signatures would not be recognized if someone tried to submit to CGC. If you have a COA maybe you can get 10 bucks but without a COA, I doubt it's worth more than a few dollars.
  5. I am also in the 5.0 to 5.5 camp, At that level, I do not think the valuation on this book would justify the expense of submitting it.
  6. Usually these are okay because they are considered a bindery defect, however, this case seems a little more severe. They look more like tears rather than holes. Who knows unless you submit but unless the rest of the book was perfect , it might be held to 9.6.
  7. Only one screener would look at the same set of books. As long as you didn't miss something, there really wasn't much to disagree about anyway. If it was a tweener, I would generally put it in the 9.6 pile unless it was an expensive book, worth the shot.
  8. Actually, I did, if you count screening for 9.8's to be submitted. Part of the task was to ascertain what flaws could be pressed. You learn what CGC is forgiving on and what they dislike. If it wasn't CGC 9.8 worthy, I then had to screen for 9.6's and 9.4's. It was fun and the time passed rather quickly but it was a long ride to work so I don't do it anymore.
  9. I don't think it's considered restored, it is given an apparent grade. Trimmed is the absolute worst designation you can get.
  10. I think it depends on if the 'stain' penetrates or not. If it's just something on the surface, you are correct.
  11. So true. IMO, TTA 35 should be the more significant and sought after book to TTA27. TTA27 is a prototype issue. All the other PreHero prototype issues don't get the attention like TTA 27. Crazy.
  12. I think we need some more pics ! Double check that top staple, it looks like it is protruding. Make sure everything is attached, all the way to the centerfold. That's a lot of BC staining but I suspect they are not as pronounced in hand ? The gloss looks cool but it doesn't matter for the grade. The best I can see this book getting is 5.5 . If those stains are more severe and penetrate, it may only be 4.5 .
  13. Yes, I do remember that. Bad memory, we were so very disgusted. The only reason we knew about that collection was because of a Board announcement. The same situation happens all the time but only those 'in the know' find out about it. I thought I was immune, didn't bother me anymore, but this year seemed really bad.
  14. I thought your title was a reference to the CR/OW Cream to Off White Page Quality.
  15. I think CGC now limits the number of onsite submissions from any one individual. Don't know the number but I may have heard 50 ? I didn't pick up much at all. Most of the dealers have their inventory covered up. Others were picked clean by the time I got there. I tried to follow Roy around and pick up some of his crumbs. Actually Greg Reece was very accommodating and let everyone into his booth while they were still stickering a new collection he just brought to market. Got some nice 10 centers from him otherwise it was a bust for me. I went to the Windy City Pulp convention in LOmbard today and had a much better time. Reminds of an old time comic show.
  16. I was there on Thursday and CGC was already accepting submissions. All the dealers were submitting their quotas. It was very busy.
  17. Can't find any references to this book. Never saw it before.
  18. Since you did not clarify what you are confused about, and did not ask any specific questions, I'm not sure how to respond but I will try. The tiers are basically based on the value of your book. You put the book into a tier that best matches the value of your book. The more expensive the book, the higher the tier cost but the higher tiers have faster turnaround. 'Tire' pricing isn't that difficult !
  19. If you have a legitimate complaint, I believe they will accommodate you. Without getting into any details here, after talking with them, I was able to return a slab book for a full refund. They have excellent customer service but you may have to get past the first level of phone support and talk to somebody in the comics department. Good luck.
  20. That bottom right FC corner crease is pretty bad. Lots of deep spine creases and a tear. In the current grading environment this could go down to a 6.0 . Also, I would not want to chance losing that White Page designation, that means a lot. There is so much that can go wrong with all the handling involved with a CPR that the risk reward is not there on this book. Leave it alone. Nice book and eye appeal as is.
  21. Though some of the creases can get removed, the remaining problems will probably keep it at 6.5 .
