  1. You must be a Marvel junkie, for a 10 cent DC, this is a big census number.
  2. If this is true, I am disappointed to hear Joey will use chemicals.
  3. I'm sure your intentions are honorable but the topic of pressing service recommendations is in poor taste to discuss here. The topic always ends badly. Please consider dropping the discussion. It's not about violating rules per se but simply being polite to our host.
  4. That cavity is part of the inner well. It's to prevent damage to the corners in the event the book violently shifts. You want that cavity. It's been there since Day1 of CGC.
  5. I think, at least for the Moderns like the Thanos 13 - 15, you are much better off submitting the 9.8 candidates using a 9.8 prescreen. If the book does not pass, you only get charged a nominal fee. The error in your logic above is you are assuming the press will get you the 9.8. If it does not, you have really wasted a lot of time and money. Unless you are really good at knowing when a press can help, and you have a presser that will also take the time to press the book properly, your 'press-why not' approach will not be fruitful long term.
  6. The design of the holder without the inner well called for extreme pressure to hold the book in place. Sometimes this pressure caused waves to form on the book. Contact CGC and if they are still offering to reslab this design for free I would get it done. Though your book may be fine (without waves) now, it could happen in the future.
  7. Why would you get a book pressed that has no defects and/or has a pristine cover ? Do you press every book you submit ?
  8. The slabs without the inner wells are the ones to stay away from. Don't go by the dates, you want the inner well.
  9. Look at what I got in the mail today. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Do you work for HA ? I am very impressed. Love these Boards and Boardies like you !
  10. Hey RMA, this was a spot on post ! I agree with everything you said. I would suspect the OP's observation that things are getting worse because of the workload may be accurate in some cases. People seem to want to send in everything to be pressed nowadays when often it is either useless or not necessary. While there are plenty of pressers, there may not be enough proficient pressers.
  11. I think you are correct. I usually use IE but I just tried it on Chrome and it was instantaneous ! I also, cleaned the cache, cookies, etc on both browsers and rebooted. Seems better on both but definitely Chrome is best ! Thanks.
  12. HaHA but really, I am quite up to date. I even have the Xfinity Blast Speed for uploads and downloads. I do get an instantaneous response for the 1st page but I cannot scroll. It's 'stuck' there clocking for a while. Don't know what the problem is but I will abide by the request to not discuss here.
  13. I always thought third party sales are frowned upon ? I remember once being contacted by a dealer about some early Brave and Bold comics. While I was still mulling over them, I went to a local convention and the same books were on another dealer's wall. I mentioned to the dealer at the con that I was just offered these books from the other dealer. He was mad, mad, mad. He said that was unethical and frowned upon. The more I think about this current situation, it doesn't make sense. Why would the Boardie need to broker the deal for his friend by paying from his own pocket ? Why not have his friend pay Jordysnordy directly and have the books shipped directly to him. It's pretty obvious the Boardie was taking a middle man cut and something went amiss. This is backing out of a purchase, plain and simple.
  14. I'm sure it's worth Bob's effort to intervene on a key or expensive book but for the run of the mill books, why bother. This topic isn't a 'Bob' problem, it's a consignor problem. I think we are just asking Bob why he bothers.
  15. So if we have any complaints about the website we can direct these to you ? I never understood the logic behind the New Arrivals. Clicking it automatically loads up the max content, very slowly I might add. After the max content is loaded, you can then select One Day, One week, etc. Why not wait to load only what the user selects. If I only want to see One Day, why make me suffer through a max content load ?
  16. So you are gauging our opinions in search of an upgrade ? I don't think a book with a large piece missing is a good candidate for an upgrade. As I stated before, a press/clean won't help the grade. Since the perceived 'stain' turned out to be a shadow cast, I'll up my grade to 3.0 .
  17. The Boardie's reference to his brother in the PM rings a familiar bell. Wasn't there a recent post by a Boardie trying to sell a book before his brother took it from him ?
  18. Agreed. I would let the Boardie know that if he forces the refund through PP, he will be nominated. The Boardie can see by the reaction here that, if nominated, the sentiment would be totally against him.
  19. I'm surprised to see the census this strong. More high grade copies than I would have thought. I never see them in the wild and they rarely come up for auction, though I think that will change shortly.
  20. I can't grade this book any higher than 2.5, if that . I don't think a press/clean will benefit the grade of this book at all.
  21. How about suggesting the Boardie hold a lot sale here ? The background story alone should garnish a sale. The books are already boxed up and ready to be sent to a new owner.
  22. I agree. I would think this transaction would be eligible for a PL nomination. Threaten the Boardie with that. It's his friend that backed out. It's really s terrible call on his part.
  23. I would like to '+1' this comment about overzealous consignments. It would seem that the effort and work involved on your part is not worth it. Naturally, you want the books to sell and you want a happy customer base. It would seem that listing these kind of consignments is not worth the effort. If the consignor is scared to leave any money on the table he should list them in auction. BTW, I think this thread can add a lot of value to the Boards. I can think of no other Board member that is more knowledgeable and experienced than you. I just hope we can keep this thread somewhat serious and it doesn't turn into an Ask Greggy type of thread. Feel free to Rant and Rave here anytime, always love it !
  24. With all the flaws this book has, just what do you think the press will fix that will increase the grade ? I do not recommend grading this book and I certainly would not recommend pressing it . Both would be a poor investment into a reader copy.
