  1. I concur with everything you said and agree on the grade range. There is a stain at the top of the spine and CGC will hold the CT against the grade. An Apparent grade is different than a Qualified grade. With an apparent, the resto counts against the grade, it is not ignored like a Qualified. IMO, this book will get an Apparent 5.5, assuming there is no trim (I don't think there is trim).
  2. If you submitted the book, you should have the cert number ? As soon as the book is shipped, you can use the cert number to look the book up. Everything you stated above, how it works, is correct. The census does not give any detailed information. No shortcuts.
  3. This makes sense because of the detached staple. The stickers would not have lowered the grade much, if at all, because the worst damage was from the detached staple. If they had given the book a Green Label, the grade would be about the same anyway. Had the staple been attached, it would have been given a Green Label.
  4. Remember my previous comments were that it could be from the comic directly under this book, in the stack. Often, books are not stacked neatly, so it could be a spot of rust but it doesn't look like rust. What did the seller think it was ? Ask him for notes. Or just get the book. Sometimes you just have to say WTF and go for it. You do seem anxious for a copy of this issue. I am a believer of let the books come to you. Nothing worse than settling for a copy and then seeing a better one come along. Why don't you see if you get some response from your WTB thread ? This is a nice copy, either way you should be fine.
  5. Staple definitely looks good. I still don't know what that spot is. I vote go for it !
  6. Thanks. I've been suspecting for a while now that the PreHeroMarvel genre has cooled off a bit, allowing us still collecting to get some good buys. I think it has coincided with the rush to all things GA, with emphasis on PCH. Just cycles, running their course. It's fine with me, I'll still buy the things I like and not necessarily chase the cycle. It's about collecting, not investing !
  7. I hear ya but that's the way the Green Label works. It appears you bought this book nearly two years ago and you didn't notice the Green Label until now ?
  8. We just went through this same discussion when someone else quoted the CGC notes as saying 'detached cover'. It turned out the notes said detached from front cover. So what EXACTLY does your label say ? Either show it or quote it in full context. I suspect you have the same situation = the cover is not fully detached. If it was fully detached it would have graded much lower.
  9. Sorry but new Board rules state you cannot charge the buyer for Paypal fees.
  10. This looks like a senior crowd. Maybe they don't know how to use their phones ?
  11. You must be referring to Roy. I'm not sure he counts, he goes everywhere. LOL.
  12. I don't like the date stamp on this book because it is very faded. However, an original date stamp is very cool and adds to the history. Many of us try and get a book with a date stamp on our birthday. Others feel like you but I think more of us like a date stamp. I think it is correct that CGC basically ignores the date stamp. If they can ignore Marvel chipping, writing, misalignment, corner bindery chips, etc, etc, etc. they can ignore a clean date stamp. BTW, I think most smeared date stamps are the result of over humidifying for a press.
  13. Thanks. You probably stopped as it neared 100 as it sold for just a tad over 100 . I wasn't going to be home the night of this auction (Thursday) so I put in some solid bids on stuff I really wanted and left it to fate. I won 8 books Thursday. The previous two auction nights I was home, diligently watching and bidding and got nada, 0, zilch. Go figure. Thanks for not bidding it up higher, saved me a few bucks !
  14. The 8.0 asking price of 750 is crazy high ?!? The 7.5 @ 450 is better but still a little aggressive. Why don't you put a WTB request on the Boards ? Also, if you can be patient, wait for something in auction. You may get a better price.
  15. JUst look at the CGC website.... https://www.cgccomics.com/services/index.aspx
  16. It's a great copy. I used to own this very copy. Traded it last year and I was almost going to try and win it back. This date range of JIM is very difficult. Congrats !
  17. That's okay, not a problem. As Joey mentioned, it looks like they didn't use the MC paper inside or placed it badly. I like this copy. Old label goodness.
  18. I think I see a big corner crease, bottom left on the FC. It's possible it's on the bag ? Point it out to the seller and argue it's 7.0 FN/VF at best. Nice book, hope you get it !
  19. That vertical crease, parallel to the spine, looks like a reader's crease. Comes from opening and closing the book too much. I agree with you that, if that is a crease, the book should not be an 8.0 . I can't see how it could be a sheet of plastic inside the case. I do think some of those other spots are actually on the case. I don't know what to tell you. Does mycomicshop have a return policy ? If not, I would not chance it.
  20. Star Spangled War stories #84, 1st appearance of Mademoiselle Marie. Very desirable and difficult to find in any grade. I paid 450.00 for my 4.0 and I got 26 Registry points ???? Maybe a 20X bump. My Greatest Adventure #80, 1st appearance of the Doom Patrol could use at least a 3X bump. Adventure #247, 1st appearance of the Legion of Super Heroes, can use a 3X bump.
