  1. Good comic. Robert Kanigher story and Joe Kubert / Nestor Redondo art.
  2. His characters tend to look as if they have agonising impacted constipation, either straining with clenched teeth or screaming in pain. I’ve experienced it. Deadpool’s hiding it well.
  3. You’re right. One of the major players in the gimmick cover era, and maybe I should’ve expected zero effort on the story side of things inside the Tyvek. The Echo of Futurepast series from the 80s was a lot better.
  4. I don't really think it improved that much at Continuity, later on. Their books from the 90s had nice art but terrible stories, which didn't hold your attention for a second. Those first issues could be suggestions for this thread as well, unless they get a pass for the artwork.
  5. Despite being an Adams fan, I never bought this one, or Skateman. I did make the mistake of buying a couple of the later Continuity first issues, though. Great art, but unreadable.
  6. I’ve never been able to motivate myself into being more original than using my middle name. However, on occasion I have been tempted to change it as a homage to a much-loved, sadly-missed and highly-respected former contributor to these message boards; Lancashire Kitchens.
  7. Always seemed to me that he was a very redundant character for Marvel to publish.
  8. Many Kirby fans like The Eternals, and Rom seems to be popular reading material on the boards.
  9. You should bring out Captain Marvel, Dracula and Werewolf as well.
  10. That’s why we are so lucky to have our comics. It’s a world of infinite possibility, and a dolphin in a cyborg exoskeleton, tooled up with a big gun, was pretty much inevitable.
  11. Magik 1 isn’t bad - Claremont and Buscema The Fly 1 - Mike Parobeck art Bill and Ted 1 - Evan Dorkin
  12. Talking of MWOM, and Rampaging Hulk magazine, Jim Starlin did a great version of the character. I’d have chosen him rather than Marcos.
  13. You need to have Marvel Monster nostalgia to fully appreciate this one.
  14. I agree entirely with you. It wasn’t Wein at his best.
  15. That was the problem until you got into the more psychological period as initiated by Peter David. You might get some interesting character development with the supporting cast, but then you’d have several issues composed mainly of relentless, numbing slugfests. Maybe too much smashing, if you try re-reading them as an adult. I felt that when I tried going through Len Wein’s run again; the Trimpe-to-Buscema transition era.
  16. For me, Thomas, Goodwin, Englehart and Wein’s Silver to Bronze run is quite patchy. Planet Hulk was quite good, Immortal Hulk has been excellent.
  17. I like both Keown and Frank, and for me I found it an easy transition as there was some stylistic similarity. I had more of a problem with Deodato’s run, as his artwork was really rushed-looking, sloppy, quite terrible compared to these two.
  18. It is, of course, my fault for posing the question in the first place.
  19. There’s some nice Romita-style, feathery inking there. That’s the only thing I like about it.
  20. I think we’ve seen a lot of evidence here that many boardies do think rationally, and have enough knowledge of comics not to just blindly go along with every bit of specious hyperbole made by the back issue market.
  21. Being British, for me the real Invaders team needs to include Union Jack and Spitfire, not just Timely’s Golden Age top three characters. It then differentiates the team more from the All-Winners Squad.
  22. Did Frank Robbins ever draw Hulk? That would be the objective benchmark to judge Sal against.
