  1. I’ll add a few not mentioned... Jose Ladronn Travis Charest Juan Gimenez Chris Ware Stuart Immonen Darwyn Cooke Mike Parobeck Steve Rude Alan Davis
  2. Will Eisner Berni Wrightson Richard Corben Neal Adams Barry Windsor-Smith Jack Cole Joe Kubert Jack Kirby Moebius / Jean Giraud Jaime Hernandez
  3. Sounds like exactly just what we need; a hackable behaviour control system. As if it isn't already bad enough.
  4. Looks like Cap's having to shout very loudly over lots of extremely deafening gunshots, which, IIRC, can be over 150 decibels. At least Kirby's being scientifically accurate on that point.
  5. That’s impressively dedicated. Most would be satisfied with sniffing some old newsprint, but it’s never occurred to me to augment that by sitting close to a pile of wood and adding in the odour of some timber as well.
  6. At the time, I would guess that transistors had a similar mystique to them as quantum computers would have to a non-scientific reader today.
  7. I’ve never minded suspension of disbelief, but started to get riled by the scientific pretentiousness and air of superiority of more recent creators such as Grant Morrison. Especially him, actually.
  8. I’m a nerd with no interest in sports and also one of the Water Cooler’s senior citizens, but, that said, I’m very pleased to see you back !
  9. Didn't know this about X-Men 50 either. My copy...
  10. Depression and subsequent suicide deprived us of one of comics' greatest-ever geniuses; Jack Cole. Only in his early 40s, IIRC.
  11. He had a stroke and went partially blind. Understandably depressed. I recall being shocked at the news at the time, as a big EC fan.
  12. Gene Day was only in his early 30s when he died. http://jimshooter.com/2011/08/comment-and-answer-about-gene-days.html/ Two contrasting opinions.
  13. Mike Parobeck, a diabetic, was only 30 when he died. A very sad loss of a great talent.
  14. I feel that modern comics get too much criticism for being generally inferior to product from decades past. There are still some very high quality titles, hidden amongst mediocrity and garbage. In other words, exactly the same as it's always been. An interesting game that supports this is to pick a month from the GA or SA or BA in the Newsstand section of dcindexes.com and be surprised at how little of outstanding, lasting quality was actually published during these fondly-remembered olden days.
  15. I have loads of material via Humble Bundle and Comixology.
  16. I see the comics I’m reading as the food: same stimulant rush regardless of the format they’re presented in. I don’t experience any such sense of deprivation.
  17. I'm at a stage where all I'm bothered about is reading, so digital's fine, in my case. The olfactory and tactile triggers provided by paper aren't as important to me anymore.
  18. I’ve always liked Keith Pollard’s art. Very underrated. Congrats!
  19. It's from a US pre-Code comic book. Weird Horrors 7 Seen it a few times over in Golden Age.
  20. I read somewhere that Norris, who is, IIRC, a ninth Dan black belt in several martial arts styles, was Layton’s sensei. As can be the case, the student surpasses the teacher, and Layton ended up with several 12th Dan belts and is recognised as being America’s hardest man. This is also why he ended up as spokesperson for the Extra Musk version of Sex Panther aftershave.
  21. Interesting. Being British, also a science nerd, with no interest whatsoever in sports, I had no idea about this. A true Renaissance man, then.
