  1. Many threads like this one, but I was always disappointed that I couldn’t import a decommissioned, fully- functional Polaris nuclear submarine into England back when I was a kid in the 70s. I always wanted to run silent and deep in the local angling reservoir. The Americans here claim that it was only made of cardboard, but I suspect that’s disinformation to keep the good stuff for themselves.
  2. (1991 + Nintendo) suggests Valiant comics?
  3. As requested by the OP, here's the Doctor Who homage, featuring some uncouth, Mancunian version of the Time Lord.
  4. I’m sure I recall a thread, possibly in Silver Age, which said that Bell’s books were much more consistent, condition-wise, than Rogofsky’s or Crestohl’s? The general mood seemed more one of satisfaction than disappointment.
  5. I had considered posting this in the AF 15 homage cover thread, but as I’ve disclosed here that I’m not that northern, any attempt at claiming regional favouritism would’ve sounded quite false.
  6. The first time I’ve seen this thread. I’m not a GA collector, way out of my meagre price range, but what incredible books, especially the striking colours, gloss and preservation of many of the examples. Congrats to everyone for putting together such amazing collections, and thanks for sharing.
  7. The appointment of Robert Crestohl as an advisor, as discussed in another thread here, indicates flaws in their vetting process; if they actually have much of one to begin with.
  8. One of the seediest-looking covers I've ever seen. Surprised Marvel published that. More underground. A long way from the suave sophistication of Jason Wyngarde in the classic Claremont / Byrne X-Men.
  9. Exactly the same for me. Now starting to sound like a common experience, and a good way to answer Mitch's question. Astonishing that the guy was allowed to be an Overstreet advisor.
  10. Robert Crestohl joined briefly, for just one post, IIRC, in order to gloat about the stack of money he'd made from trusting individuals like myself after some posts I'd made about the appallingly-bad experience I'd once had with him, described how glad he was to be as far away as possible now from comic collectors, and then disappeared off into the night, doubtless to obtain comfort from his beloved, Everest-sized mountain of loonies.
  11. Yup. But, the end result of their interference with his design still looks wrong, once you notice it.
  12. Batman 244 has another error, unless Ra's is holding a spare Batman costume.
  13. It's taken me all this time to realise that you're probably talking about Vera Duckworth. 'Pet' sounds more Geordie than Mancunian.
  14. Yup. Three generations back my family are East Anglian. I’m living a lie.
  15. I thought that she’s a real, actual northerner?
  16. A live-action version of Him would remind me too much of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Adam Warlock’s better, but already I’m not exactly impressed by the golden appearance of The Sovereign. Also, a lot of his interaction with Thanos gets quite philosophical and deep, so it remains to be seen if Marvel Studios can simplify that down and make him interesting to a mass audience.
  17. In a sense, that was what I was going for in my comparison of Levi with Affleck. Brick outhouses: one on the lighter side of super-heroics, the other on the darker side.
  18. Interesting that he’s built like a brick outhouse, similar to Ben Affleck’s intimidating appearance as Batman.
  19. I read the 70s books when I was a young-and-naive 9-year-old, so the stories worked for me back then. I also liked Schaffenberger’s art, which I’d first encountered in Superman Family reprints at the time.
