  1. Thanks for sharing that (painful) story because it's so relatable. I've also had to rehearse in my mind many deals that didn't happen because I didn't yes to the offer. For me, items I sold that I should have kept have been a bigger source of pain (like when I sold a FF 1 that was beat but complete for $200...a little tear welling up as I type). Whenever possible I try to buy that book I missed out on or sold in a slightly higher grade or with a signature or pedigree so that the replacement is "better". At least that's the mind game I play. Obviously, that's easier said than done when it comes to big ticket books.
  2. It was a lot more than 25 cents...ha, ha. Here is my FF Annual #1. I'll need an expert on the chronology of these books (and someone who owns raw copies) to chime in. ST Annual 1 has a 1962 date and FF Annual 1 has a 1963 date so there might have been some time between the two before they reached the rack.
  3. I decided to go for the Strange Tales Annual #1 CGC 9.4.
  4. Just won this TOS #47 CGC 9.4 beauty. I've always liked this cover. There's nowhere to hide from the Melter...
  5. I was the last man standing on the Strange Tales Annual #1 CGC 9.4. I got squashed like a bug on a bunch of other items.
  6. That's right. It's all coming back to me now. I re-read some of the Impossible Collection articles. That's where I remember seeing those two 9.0s together in one picture. Thanks for those details.
  7. I watched a lot of the Heritage bidding action today. That's a major league score and a beautiful book...even white pages. Congratulations!
  8. Here's a link to ComicConnect and the details of the Action #1 CGC 9.0 that Metropolis won on eBay for 3.2 Million. I'm looking for the other 9.0 sale details. I remember seeing a picture of Vincent Z. holding two CGC 9.0's in his hands. Metropolis Comics and Collectibles - 3.2 Million Action 1
  9. Great looking copy! A nice JLA #1 is still on my want list.
  10. Mad covers with that silly grin always make me laugh.
  11. I was happy to pick-up this ST Annual #2. I had a CGC 8.0 some years ago and then upgraded a little with this one. I love that old Jack Kirby Spider-Man drawing.
  12. I've been slowly working on my JLA collection as nice books pop up. I love this cover.
  13. Jack Kirby...what a legend. I'm sure when all these characters from Captain America to FF to Thor and all the rest were first created and drawn, he could not have imagined the impact they would have on the world. To think that these artists were originally doing all this for work (and their love of storytelling and drawing, of course) to provide for themselves and their families...unbelievable.
  14. Yeah. There are some absolutely amazing items in this Heritage auction. I wonder if Metropolis has the high bid on the Action #1 8.5. I believe they own the two 9.0s that sold not too long ago. This will be a fun one to watch. I'm hoping to win something good under the radar with all the money being spent on the top shelf books.
  15. Here's a cool Walking Dead #4 SS with a Kirkman signature.
  16. I appreciate being the new owner of this JIM #105. Jack Kirby was really something!
  17. Even if the market is still cooling, this book warms my heart and will keep my other Spideys company until things heat up again.
  18. I finally scored a high grade book from The Promise Collection. I really like these early Tracy covers. The bidding has been intense on Promise books I've watched at auction (especially superhero titles). I was dreaming of winning some under #100 Action Comics issues recently at Heritage and got blown out of the water when the bidding heated up so I'm just happy to own one Promise book...so far.
  19. I've had several copies of ASM #2 over the years and then decided to take the plunge with this SS book. I know it has 2 strikes against it being both restored (small color touch) and trimmed, but it would be tough to find one that looks better at first glance. It was signed by a celebrity who went by Stan the Man!
  20. I picked up this ASM #25 CGC 9.6 with white pages a while back to upgrade the CGC 8.5 I had. That Steve Ditko cover is spectacular!
  21. I finally jumped in on a first Moon Knight appearance. Prices have been all over the place for this issue, but I was glad to get a high grade CGC 9.6 copy with that famous classic cover.
  22. This FF #112 CGC 9.6 is a new acquisition for me that I'm not sure I ever owned unless it was in a collection I quickly sold. I went for this one because of the high grade. The miswrapped cover bugs me a little but there are only so many available for sale at any given time at a reasonable price. Despite the technical stuff, I love that black battle cover.
