  1. @ Artboy99 liked it the most out of the three of us. The other friend and I were not impressed. This is an average film at best. The story and plot were predictable. I was able to call out the lines the actors were going to say at "key" moments before they happened. Our friend was laughing as I went to the washroom (which I do not do at movies I like), came back, and said the next couple of lines without seeing the preceeding scenes. The "falling for you" scenes between Batman and Catwoman were as bad as Anakin and Padme in the Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. That being said, Zoe Kravitz was good as Catwoman and a pleasant surprise. I can't say the same for Pattinson. If you want Batman to only have one look like Zoolander, just use a cardboard cutout for the next film and save $10 million on production costs. Or, maybe get the Peacemaker to provide some facial exercises for him to work on? As I posted in the other thread, the movie was 30-45 minutes too long, which is just like Reeves' Apes movies. The Batmobile reveal and car chase was mostly pointless - why rev the engine for what seemed like 15 minutes at the back of the alley before actually starting the chase? And, the rocket booster did not make any sense. The whole seawall detonation and flooding was pointless. All they had to do was end it with them catching the Riddler and it would have been a better movie. The only thing that might come out of the plodding last half hour is the Batman's use of Venom? That could mean Bane is in the future, I guess. The Joker's laugh at the end was bad. It made me wish Leto was in the cell as the actor instead, which is not really a positive, is it? And it is funny to see everyone hyped up about the dark and gritty imagery, yet Snyder got panned for it in BvS and Justice League. Fickle crowd. I think our friend summed it up best - we have waited a decade since the Nolan trilogy and this is what we get? As a Batman fanboy, I am torn on whether I want the movie to be a box office success or not. If it is, we get another half-assed Reeves/Pattinson origin/development retcon flick the next go round. On the other hand, if it sees a significant drop due to run time and mixed word of mouth, then maybe the new Discovery merged company fires the WB exec team, puts in a creative head with a 10 year plan, and they churn out better movies in a more cohesive series of films going forward. Right now it is a mess with Directors doing what they want regardless of how the films play together. That is why the MCU can turn 2nd and 3rd tier properties into highly profitable franchises while WB/DC has Aquaman and Wonder Woman outdoing their two biggest properties, Batman and Superman, at the box office.
  2. If Reeves is a Batman fan then he must not be reading the same Batman that the rest of us have been since the 1970 revamp. He does not understand the character based on this movie. It is one thing to quote what your PR staff tells you for interviews that give you the questions in advance. It is another to actually show it with the film you direct.
  3. Just got back from the movie. Even going in with lowered expectations based on word of mouth I had heard, it was a 5 out of 10 movie for me. The -script was so predictable I was calling lines out before the actors/actresses said them. The film was 30-45 minutes too long with a lot of empty scenes. This is like Reeves' Apes movies which could have been cut down and been much better as well. Maybe WB was budgeting by the minute so they had to run long to spend all of the money? Zoe Kravitz did better than I thought she would and was a decent Selina. It would be great to see her again. However, Pattinson was as bad as I feared he would be. He needs to stop with the Derek Zoolander school of only one type of facial expression if he is Batman in the next film. If he only has one expression, just put in a cardboard cutout next time and save the money. It is also funny to see the critics talking about it being a refreshing dark and gritty noir film, yet they were panning Snyder for the same thing just a few years ago. I hope the movie does great at the box office, but I am wondering how hard it falls off in the next couple of weeks due to the long run time and just being an average film. Discovery needs to punt the entire WB executive when they merge and bring in someone who can bring some coherency to the DCU. Right now allowing directors to just do whatever they want with each property is not working. One friend that was part of our group tonight put it succintly - it has been 10 years since the end of the Nolan trilogy and this is all we got. It pains me to say this as a Batman fanboy, but if the next film is another Reeves/Pattinson disappointment then I am likely going to save the money and not bother watching it until it hits HBO Max or some other streaming service.
  4. I have not looked into it more seriously yet but definitely will before putting any money in. What I do find interesting, though, is that I received the notice about the CGC 8.0 Batman #1 from the Beckett Partner Services and all of the comics listed by Rally are CGC graded, not CBCS.
  5. It looks like you can trade your "shares" in the books. I am tempted to sign up and play on the CGC 8.0 Batman #1 they are currently advertising. At $10 per "share" it is not much, and if it works may be another way to invest in the hobby.
  6. This seems tame to last Feb/Mar/Apr when you had a larger jump in prices across the board % wise. I am wondering if this is the new pattern as it used to be new peak prices in July/August with SDCC and other convention announcements. Now it seems like studios drop new streaming and movie announcements Nov/Dec or Jan instead.
  7. Thank you all for the purchases. This thread is closed now. I will send out the invoices tomorrow. Have a good night.
  8. Last Facsimile AF #15 CGC 9.8 sale was $350 according to GPA. It is a $20+ raw book as well.
  9. Look at in another way - you made the high bidders pay a premium for their books by bidding them up. Now that they are removed from the equation you may be able to get the next copies that pop up for less and you will have the satisfaction of knowing they will regret the overpay.
  10. Nice. I am bulking the Eye of the Storm mini and was worried it would be a dud.
  11. Check out the prices on the better SA/BA/CA key facsimiles. Most of these sell for $10+ raw, and some are hitting $200+ in 9.8.
  12. Who was better in the movie, the Riddler or Batman?
  13. I did a bulk pre-order of HR #15 since it seems that Marvel is using SW last issues for cameos/to set up the next series/mini-series. Should have done more.
  14. I find Momoko to be hit and miss now, with some covers looking like rush jobs likely due to the number of them now, but the upcoming GR #2 cover looks nice and would make a great ratio virgin cover:
  15. X-Men #19 VG- $100 1st appearance of Mimic Looks nicer, but an insufficiently thoughtful previous owner added an unnecessary piece of tape to the middle of the top edge of the front cover.
