  1. Sell me the 2 & 3 so I can complete my run . Great story and congrats on the pick-up.
  2. 100% agree with this. Never really was a fan of his work but at least his 80's stuff was tolerable.
  3. Sweet! I'm in the middle of dry January so my grades guesses should be spot on that week!
  4. WTF, I'm never getting my Economy books back currently at day 135?
  5. Nah, no one to blame. I hope it becomes a positive. On the other hand, you sir have your work cut out for you. Tree fiddy is a boatload of participants to manage!
  6. this thread is tame. Go to the cornfield if you want to see off topic train wrecks. That and wheatcakes, amirite?
  7. I really doubt that anyone is truly annoyed. If the driver was to increase board membership and at least 5% of the newcomers turn into contributing members to the boards, it was worth it. If the point was to simply promote submissions to an already overloaded backlog, not so much...
  8. A large majority of the entries were driven by email communication touting a $500 grading credit for the winner. The "fun" plays no part in most of the entries. If you've participated in past contests or know how they worked you might have a better understanding of what's driving those comments. Previous contests were about improving your skills, bragging rights and yes some cool prizes. Those were all donations from other members which I doubt we'll see as part of this contest. Maybe I'm wrong on that point though...
  9. It's all about the That $500 grading carrot is the driver. Hopefully at least a small percentage will stick around and contribute in some way. @CGC Mike depending on how this one goes, maybe open up the next one to members only for a week first?
  10. Yes and no. I made out on a number of books such as ASM #129 VF for $2.95, ASM #122 VF/NM for $8, and ASM #300 off the rack but at that time in my life I had minimal money so even if a copy of FF #1 could be had for cheap $$, I still couldn't afford it. Around 1988 I was living in my first apartment and had to choose between paying rent and buying books. I spent most of the mid to late 90's going back and filling these gaps in my collection.
  11. The best part of collecting in the 70's was hopping on my bike to go to the corner store and buying books of the spinner rack. I chose chasing girls over books in the early 80's but got back into it in 84. I discovered my first LCS at that point (That's Entertainment when it was on Chandler St. in Worcester, MA) where I had my first pull list and a place to talk comics.

  13. I have recycled them and think it wouldn't be an issue. Many things that are recyclable have some type of coating.
  14. I think the only time I've ever intentionally bought multiple copies was with X-Factor #1 thinking it would be as popular as the relaunch of the X-men and that was only 3 copies. It wasn't the worst idea @ $1.25 an issue. Most of my other duplicates are from various sources such as upgrades, freebies from purchases here, forgetting I already had that issue , or drunken eBaying . I did acquire a collection back in the mid 90's that there was some cross-over with my collection but that included some key issues like ASM #300, New Mutants #98 and all the different covers of Spider-man (McFarlane series) and a bunch of early Spawn issues.
  15. Tonight's game time temp in Buffalo is supposed to be around 8 but could go as low as 2. I was at the Pats/Titans playoff in 2004 and it was 4! My beer was freezing before I could finish it.
