  1. I want to see larger pics of your Adlard sketches in your signature bro :hi:

Is there a reason CGC or GPA for that matter doesn't distinguish between white and black mature readers label? Or do they and I am missing it?

As per Robert Kirkman..."the white label is more rare" :rulez:

Okay, but why doesn't CGC break it out for us so we know how many of each are slabbed? They do so on #33, #34 and 50 2nd prints and #50 Larsen variant at least. I didn't look at some of the other variants and 2nd prints but assume those are documented. Why not #1? (shrug)

Because when they started slabbing WD #1's they probably didn't know there were 2 versions.

CGC typically notes things on their label based on the information printed on the indica inside the comic. Since there is no mention of the white version being a 2nd print, combined with the way the books were distributed there was no way for them to know there were 2 versions when the 1st WD #1's were graded. Furthermore, adding it to the label now would only cause confusion and inconsistencies.

For those interested in how it happened, read on.

This info comes directly from Robert Kirkman himself:

The "mature readers" was originally intended to have white letters with a black border. The printing process lays down the black color first and then the white on top creating the effect.

During the printing phase somehow the process was reversed and the white was printed 1st and the black then subsequently covered up the white completely.

They saw the mistake on some of the printed books. Stopped printing. Fixed it, and then continued printing the books with the white logo. (Those of you with the white version, if you look you'll see a black border around the letters.)

The books were shipped out to stores as they were printed. Therefore your store got copies that all looked the same. So no one knew there was a "variant." It wasn't until much later when the series got popular collectors started to notice the 2 versions online in auctions.

  2. "As I also stated, Tony's commissions are more. I think that is a good indication that he is the better artist" --

I totally disagree with that... Adlard seems to do free sketches or charge very cheap for them, and in my opinion, that is simply just being nicer to your fans. Moore is very hard to get a commission from, I appreciate that he spends time on them, but how can he not? when he's so hard to get on his list, and his price isn't exactly 'cheap', and that's obviously going to build you up as an artist, if you're supplying 'limited' amounts.

Out of the two examples you showed above, I loved Doug's Tony Moore commission, the Atlanta piece, and the other one was cool, but I genuinely think Adlard's stuff you posted is AS great and the contrasting colours are what makes Adlard pieces so nice (they're totally different and incomparable in my opinion).

I disagree with the blacks being used to 'cover up a relative lack of talent' (I think that's crazy!), I can appreciate sometimes it comes across on certain pieces that it looks like it was on a deadline, but I still feel it conveys emotion exactly how it needs be, with the fast and dark strokes and heavy blacks, but I've grown to really like that... Naturally, if you're doing 20x more than Moore (interiors, covers, and art for everything else promotional) you're going to need to work faster, but I don't think it comes off as a 'relative lack of talent'.

    I like this piece:

I don't prefer Adlard or Moore, I just like them both, they're totally different.

  3. lol That's amazing!

    Thanks all!

It is awesome that he's old enough now and into them so we can share collecting. I haven't had a friend that collected since like grade school and my friends now and wife have about a 30 second attention span if I dare try to talk comics with them. Darren though will talk all day about them. He LOVES collecting and talking comics!

This EXACT scenario takes place about 4 times a week in my house. My 9 year old daughter Ashley will walk by and hear Darren and I talking about comic books....

    Ashley- "losers!"

Darren- "shut up Ashley! Daddy's the comic book king not a loser! Right daddy?"

    Me- "right!"

    Ashley- "losers!!!"

Darren- "shut up Ashley! Daddy has a x-men1! YOU don't have a x-men1 so shut up!

Ashley- "Oh my god!" and rolls her eyes and walks away

    It's pretty funny!

    lol

  4. Rich :o I got this one recently signed and CGC SS by Wiacek too man!! Pretty cool that you worked on the production for that one.

    That is a SIIIICK cover!

I actually worked production on that cover.

In the 90s, my company did color seps for about 1/4 of all the Marvel books, and a little more then that on covers and ads.

All those foil covers were a pain the azz, I'll tell you that! :sumo:

  5. Both look awesome! I need me a Bernie Wrightson CGC SS

2 more Signature Series books back today from CGC that I had signed by Bernie Wrightson in Dallas:

    SwampThing10CGC94SSBernieWrightson.jpg

The HOM #195 is a sweet looking book that was downgraded due to a 1/2" tear just to the left of the issue number and date. And I'm very happy with the Swamp Thing #10 (last Bernie Wrightson issue in that series). :)

  6. But I want her on the whole series!

    lol

Frank Darabont reveals to FEARnet that Michonne will definitely join the show in Season 3. What of Stephen King writing an episode? "It'll happen eventually, I'm sure," he adds.

    JJ Thoughts...

Season ends with Michonne walking head down with hooded cape (to not reveal face) and the 2 in chains behind her...

Just how I would do it...but thats just me...

  7. I think that's a good thing :) I just hope they eventually get to the prison :wishluck:

Would be awesome if the season ended with them driving past the prison and one of them noticing it. That would get me hyped lol

They're saying this season will be mostly Herschel's farm, introducing Maggie, getting the Maggie/Glen romance going, etc.
