I guess Watterson used an unstable marker for his lettering and border panels. All the fading I've seen on C&H originals is confined to these two elements, and thankfully, not any of the actual art. That said, the lettering (words!) matter a LOT in a C&H original, so preservation of these treasures is important. The fading on my C&H original is pretty minimal at this point, but I've decided to keep the piece out of the light, unframed, and stored in the dark. It kinda sucks, but I don't want to risk any further damage, and UV resistant museum glass is NOT sufficient. It is what it is.

Stinks that inks and markers may not be stable for so much of the art we love.

Indeed, in this collection is another one*:

The current piece is worth 55k (due to sun wear), I think, but to get it you must pay 75k. Just my guesses.

*(although I doubt it was publicly available, rather a first pick access to a dealer's offer?)

Sadly looks like a decent amount of fading on this one coming up.

Reading this thread just reminded me how much slack we readily give dealers in this hobby when it comes to customer service. Imagine telling someone to not worry about getting a response back from Best Buy or Walmart or Amazon or your electrician or your plumber or your doctor...because August isn't a good month for them....and then being ok with it. Crazy...

When demand is high, service often is forgotten.

  4. I owned this book for a number of years but never had it graded. It was sold raw. I had bought a coverless in the late 90's that had beautiful snow white pages. Found a copy with a giant chew through the entire book and the interior was obviously effected, so I swapped out the interiors. Kept it for years but had to sell it to pay for something else.

So in a nutshell, the entire cover is married, not just the front cover. However due the giant chunk it would only grade a 0.5 I guess.

Which dehumidifier are most of you all using for your books?  I've used EVa-dry and really liked them.   Just wondering if there are any other good brands.

I have a few of these. One in each SDB and in other areas where my comics and art are stored. They are very handy and the silica is easy to renew.
