I thought the Campbell Spiderman covers were a steal. In fact I won the blackcat/spidey cover and I'm over the moon. I'd be shocked if they didn't sell for at least twice as much originally. I've wanted a Campbell Spidey cover for years and really didn't think I'd ever get one. Especially for less than five figures.

Campbell overload. Should be running out soon as Max Anderson’s collection is almost all sold.

On the original question: I rarely post, don't have a CAF and I am out of the hobby because I find the community toxic. See the thread on grown men complaining about "censorship of art" because a company decided to retire a card from a card game. There is valuable information in these threads and I respect a few posters, but not enough to make me want to be a part of the community.

For whatever it is worth, I stopped collecting after taking a deep dive in these forums (and getting burned on a couple of deals with high-profile collectors, but more the former than the latter).

I also post less on caf now due to how toxic the hobby has become. Some new collectors seem to have a sense of entitlement due to their spending power or having purchased the latest hot book/artist. I enjoy the art for what it is. But if a community is causing you to question why you’re collecting, it’s better to step away from it.

  4. Attended on Thursday. Picked up mostly pieces that were arranged or paid for months ago. An interesting observation in artist alley. About 25-30% of artists set up were completely digital. No originals, prints only. I wonder if this will become the new norm in the future.
Crowds were lighter on Thursday and it was easy to move around artist alley and the show floor. Some good pieces for sale on the floor at high prices as usual. Many collectors I heard murmuring about prices being too high and not being able to afford what they love. The hobby has priced out many sadly.

I was going to diversify into sports cards and sports memorabilia until I heard that they were already crashing.

But then I read that a Mickey Mantle card just went for $12.6m and 2 Justin Herbert cards went for over $1m each, and a Michael Jordan jersey went for over $10m, soon after a Diego Maradona jersey went for over $9m.  If that's a crash, I'd hate to see what they were going for before!

So now I'm just very confused.

What has crashed are cards that were overly inflated. The blue chips like the 52 Mantle, Ruth, Cobb etc are still strong.

  6. FYI about Ebay buyer moonshine560.

Went back and forth for days making offers on a cgc book I had listed. Eventually came back with a lower offer than I said I would accept (of course). Since it seemed he wanted the book I accepted. He received it, and was not happy because the slab had newtons rings. I told him this is a slab issue. He ended up filing for a return. With ebay shipping etc I am out $40 for shipping to him and return shipping.

I don't like getting fleeced by a guy who treats people like trash when they ask him a question at a con.

Here is an interesting comment. The reality is that many big dealers treat customers like trash, and it is fully acceptable. Why? Because demand far exceeds supply. Honestly speaking, if someone treats me like that, I bite right back. There is no excuse for it.

And lets be honest.  We are guilty of going back to to those dealers when they have something we want. If it bothered enough people that their business was impacted, this type of behavior would stop across the board.
