  1. Correct - that's part of the "experience" I learned. And I didn't use a credit card... Oh, he screwed me, - the book was supposed to receive was described as VF (not NM like I said earlier, sorry) and looked VF+ to VF/NM by the pic I received. And my auctions always have the line "if you have any questions or would like scans of the comic, feel free to e-mail me..." I know that people who are serious demand certain things, and can always go elsewhere to get them if I don't have what they need. (thumbs u *EDIT* The names used in this scam were Edward Johnson, Matt Edwards, and the eBay ID's name was Matt Crowell. I still have a copy of the letter I sent off to the FBI's Internet Fraud department a few years back, of which I never heard anything from - not even a letter of acknowledgment... -slym
  2. So I am assuming these arent the books you bid on. He sent you some other copies? And when you E-mailed him he said? That's where the long drawn-out part starts. I sent a nice e-mail as the seller claimed I could return the books if I didn't agree with his grade. I got no reply, and didn't for 3 weeks. After FLOODING the e-mail, I got some sob-story about how the guy I was dealing with was shot while on vacation in Russia (I jokingly presume with my money) and died. I talked with his "father" presumably through e-mail and was promised that restitution would be made, and gave him my address. I got a package with an even crappier reprint X-comic in it, and the return address was made out in the NAME OF THE GUY WHO SUPPOSEDLY DIED. His "father" didn't have the same name, so I guess his still-warm corpse made that stuff out? It was bad situation all around... but for what I lost, it wasn't worth getting on a plane and going to his door. I'm not sure if I could have called the cops in Houston..... I chalked it up to experience and moved on. But, I do have his address in my wallet, just in case I ever find myself in Houston. -slym
  3. No worries - it wasn't the best pic. (thumbs u -slym
  4. These are my pics and scans, not the ones I saw before purchase. -slym
  5. Here's a scan of it - you tell me if you'd pay $450 for it. -slym (yes, that IS a hole in the cover, at the Hulk's chest)
  6. Nope - as much as I paid for them, they stay in my collection. (thumbs u -slym
  7. By all means, EVERYBODY should steal that idea. It's not even my idea, but (AFAIK) I'm the first to take pics that way. -slym
  8. Where did you purchase it? Ebay? No, it was on a 'private' trading site that had done pretty well - up until I got rooked. These two books, with the 181 advertised as VF/NM and the X-Men as F-, were what I received for $500, and not until around a month after a BIG runaround-story. I guess I should feel lucky I got anything at all, but these aren't worth $50 between them. I now use these pics to (slightly falsely) illustrate eBay "near mint" (hence the Altoids.) -slym
  9. You remember that??? Wow... yes, that is the Hulk 181 deal gone sour. I was/am out $450 on that one. -slym
  10. Put me in the queue - all message boards - slym2none eBay user ID: pewter4144 -slym
  11. Quality over quantity... the counts really aren't that important. -slym (still usually racks up large numbers)
  12. Well, let's see... how to answer that..... My father and sister both went to UNC. Growing up, my room had two light blue walls and two white walls, one covered with UNC Chapel Hill appliqués, and my current dog has a Carolina blue collar and leash. I bleed Carolina blue, my friend. (thumbs u -slym
  13. H...er, S.A.! Long time, no smell! Seriously, though - I'll have you know that SMF Uncanny issue you sent me is the last variant I obtained, and it is certainly no 9.8 candidate...
  14. The only one of the three pieces (that aren't sketches) of OA I have that is framed - Shadowman, pulling victims of Hurricane Katrina to safety. I won this on eBay a couple years back when it was being auctioned off for Katrina relief. -slym
  15. *L* Thanks, and I mean it - I've seen how some boards treat those types and I definitely don't want to be one of 'those types.' -slym
  16. Woogie! How's it going? I have seen people from every other board I belong to on this site, it looks really cool here. The way I am starting, I might have as many posts as I do over at VF.com in half the time, and I haven't even scratched the surface of all the threads over here!!! -slym
  17. Is there a member here by the (real) name Matt Edwards, or has anyone done "business" with him in the past? He lives/lived in Houston, Texas. If so, please come forward or PM me, I'd like to know more. -slym
  18. I'm down to 8-1/2 LB's full - I'd say about 2200. At my "best," I probably only ever had 3500, and I've been a collector for 26 years now. -slym
  19. Thanks, I thought so. I definitely don't want to start out on the wrong foot over here! (thumbs u
  20. ? Slym, same as slim... like slim to none. Which is, by the way, the chance that I will get upset by such things. -slym
  21. Hi - I have lurked for a while before registering, trying to feel the place out. I have a question - is there any negative stigma attached to a noob coming on board and starting a selling thread right away? I know a few people that belong here, and I think that most of them would vouch for me... and no worries, I am not just going to try and pawn my junk off here, I will participate elsewhere. Just give me a little time. -slym
