  1. Very interesting read.

I started my comic adventure in the early 90s as did a lot of others.  Collected for about 10 years then took a break.  That break lasted 20 years, only returning at the start of this year.

The landscape has changed dramatically.  One thing I find interesting when I watch comic videos or go to local cons, is that the people buying comics are my age or older.

Younger gen (I have a 13 yr old son) are all into online gaming, youtube, twitch etc.  I have a solid vintage video game and comic collection, and I often wonder as years go on will anyone care about this stuff?  Or will it be cyclical like so many other things in history and become popular again?

Nice to see everyone kind of thinking the same things.

  2. I tried Shortbox, which has some cool features like historical data and the 'green, yellow or red' markers showing if items are priced well or not.

My one issue is the shipping.  I am in Canada.  I bought one book to test it out.  I paid $15 USD for the item to be shipped to their depot in California, where they hold and inspect.  Now I have to pay $50 USD for them to ship me '1 or 2' books.

So I will end up paying $65 USD to receive one slab from their app.

Yeah, it's pretty common.  Not sure why it's more visible on some than others, but it's normal. For reference, I went to ebay and searched "CGC" and literally the first one I looked at had it, on the lower third of the vertical seam on the right in this pic. Several of mine have it, I just don't have pics on-hand.  Not much to say, except focus on the book not the case (shrug)

Thanks for the response.  I was able to find some examples on ebay as well, but only a couple.  The strong majority of books I looked at didn't have it.  Literally all 15 of my books have it.  Without knowing the exact encapsulation process, it does seem odd for their to be such a visible difference in the outcome of the welding.

I take that back, I understand it may "appear unseemly," but would cgc consider it a mechanical error? I think almost certainly it's a no.

That said I understand but I could ignore it, but I don't know how common as I don't tend to notice  :shy:

Ya not sure if its a mechanical error, but it definitely seems off if no other books seem to have it.  I have also emailed it to customer service.

Just very disappointing to have it happen on my first submission, considering the grades were all excellent.

  5. I’m in this exact same scenario.  First submission, waiting at post office for a day and then picked up on Friday.  Thanks for sharing.

What I wonder is if there is any auto communication from CGC?  Like emails when package is opened, or grades are complete, or shipping notice?  Or do we need to keep checking.
