  1. Why do I feel like someone just poured gasoline on me and torches are half off?
  2. I heard a commentator once state that comic book movies are basically structured as male power fantasies and as such primarily appeal to men. He then went on to say that a female hero in that sort of story would not attract a female audience as it is still a story designed to appeal to male ideas of fantasy. There was further digression into Rom-Com demographics and such. I will try to find the video. Edited for clarification: Rom-Com = Romantic Comedy, not humorous escapades of our favorite space knight.
  3. Just spit-balling here... Maybe the genre is stale, the formula is tired, the characters do not have mass appeal, and phase 4 and 5 were a narrative mess giving no compelling framework to tell this story within. I think the number of movie-goers that would see/not-see this movie because of some overriding ideology is vanishingly small when compared to the number of people who just wish to be entertained.
  4. Favorite CBMs, no specific order: V For Vendetta Watchmen American Splendor Sin City Joker 300 Winter Soldier
  5. That is a great scene. I'd put Quicksilver saves everyone up there with it as well.
  6. I feel as if there is a sublime white-boy rap gestating in that phrase.
  7. The Great Darkness Saga in LSH was my intro into comics. Before that I would occasionally buy issues of Adventure, JLA, Avengers, Batman, House of Mystery but after reading that storyline I became a monthly reader of LSH. That just opened the door into regular consumption of multiple titles.
  8. That would have made no sense to me unless I had not randomly discovered the babes in test-tubes thread just yesterday.
  9. There are no grails here. There are topics of interest based on niche collecting preferences. The widest appeal would seem like Hellrider #1 being it is a prototype of GhostRider but honestly no one seems to care. Good mags with some eye appeal that only niche collectors will chase.
  10. It would be better to generalize this statement as, "Fight back against bad movies by supporting directors that make good movies". The interpretative part here is Comic Book Movie Culture. What exactly that means is not clear, surely it does not mean all comic book movies. To me Comic Book Movie Culture (CBMC) is a pattern of consumption that lacks discretion in regards to quality and consumes almost solely based on the genre. Something along the rationale of If I support comic book movies across the board then more comic book movies will be made. More accurately, more bad comic movies will be made IMO. I suppose it is possible there are consumers that truly enjoy this whole mediocre mess. I would liken it to stray dogs that had to subsist on poo during periods of starvation. Once brought into a home with a large pack they now have the choice of eating good nutritious food. However they still continue to eat poo as well whereas the other dogs will not touch the stuff. Cmon boys, its dinner time, drop the poo.
  11. Not a great answer as it relies on users to input the data but you can perform a format search on the Grand Comics Database. Data input will surely lag and be incomplete though.
  12. I think you may have just invented a new category of kink.
  13. For those of us permanently scarred by Cop-Rock, this is just a trigger for PTSD. I am sure it (Joker 2) will be well executed but the musical aspect seems really odd (which may be a good thing).
  14. I don't know the history behind the printing process for this trade but Warren was notorious for its cheap printing process on specials, especially on the HC versions.
  15. I remember seeing this on the news-stand/mag rack back in the day. Never thought it would have any value. I will have to reconsider the old adage, "you can't polish a turd". Evidently CGC can.
  16. Your taste is improving. I never could understand the stinky vampire groupie girl thing.
  17. Interent archive has a digital copy... Warren Companion : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive
