  1. These aren't comic magazines, but they're in line with the interest of those who collect vintage crime comics (Crimes by Women, etc.) or pulps, so... Here are two of my recent magazine pick-ups. I am a sucker for these painted crime covers, especially with GGA bad girls / femme fatales.
  2. Bravo! Really nice binding and presentation on that book! Well done!
  3. Either that or typo on the label. Only two plausible explanations it seems to me. They probably won't get a look at it until mid next week unless the people who sent it in overnighted it or something. Four possibilities: 1. The old switcheroo 2. Data entry fail 3. Hangover grading 4. The North Koreans 5. Really extreme shaken comic syndrome
  4. It would be a real challenge to aim a pistol while carrying that lady.
  5. This seems relevant to our interests: [font:Book Antiqua] The insane history of how American paranoia ruined and censored comic books [/font]
  6. "I haven't had the cash ($25)" = don't buy anything online, or anywhere else for that matter
  7. I'm looking up more Erol Otus works and having flashbacks...
  8. Thanks! I can't recall hearing that name before. The artist that work might remind me of is Erol Otus, who did a lot of the D&D modules, as well as covers for Dragon magazine. Both artists have a curved, airbrushy kind of shading and style.
  9. What is that big black-and-white piece of art in your sigline? It totally looks like one of the artists who did D&D book covers or modules back in the day....
  10. I will see this even if it has the worst reviews since "Sin City 2: Eva Green's Boobs."
  11. They update the comments on an ongoing basis. I've seen comments change or get added even while the status was the same.
  12. Yeah, those are so cool and weird. Like when they take Junior Comics (the Al Feldstein 'Archie' type books) and turn them into 'Deena and Gwenny'.... Or they take Zoot/Rulah comics and turn them into 'Jungle Drums'....
  13. My favorite Canadian comics are those Bell comics where they take Fox GGA type splash pages (jungle, teen, etc.) and convert them into cover images, adding strange titles at the top (usually hand-lettered in a cool way). I'd like to see a definitive image or set of images of all the known examples of those comics. I'll bet there are a few collectors out there who have some of the only existing copies of many of those comics.
  14. I rarely get a chance to use this gremlin, so... If we put our copies together, we have an 11. Take that, Gaines File Copies.
  15. It's one of the better "Frankencomics" I've seen. I think the seller should have simply disclosed that it was cut-up and reconstructed and sold the comic as-is. On the reconstructed copy, the rocket blast at the lower left could have been done better...
  16. Found these at an Estate Sale... For 25 cents or maybe it was 50 cents each, I can't remember. Had to have them. I looked in Overstreet and they're not worth much, but I dig 'em anyway. There are a few other Talking Komics out there. Maybe I'll complete the run! (Grumpy Shark is definitely the "key" so I'm all set there, but "Lonesome Octopus" sounds like a winner!) They remind me a little bit of EC's "Land of the Lost" title. Here are a few pics:
  17. That's great! It works better for me, though, if I have pictures to reference. With that in mind.... (P.S. Thanks Grand Comic Book Database....I need to donate to you!)
  18. Looks like that's a reprint of the US TR 16. Despite being short a few pages, I think these editions manage to reproduce almost all the original stories from the US editions they reprint, minus only the ad and text pages. I wouldn't say I collect them, but I have managed to grab the two or three issues I've been able to find. It's been my understanding, based on reading in this forum, that British editions are those with Pence ("P") prices, and those with the "D" prices were originally sold in Australia and New Zealand. Ah, that makes sense. That reminds me, I went on a trip to New Zealand several years ago. While there I tried to occasionally find comics shops just in case they had unusual old comics for sale. There are very few comics shops in most New Zealand cities, at least not near the city centers. I did find a comics shop in Christchurch, and had to walk a couple miles to get to it. It had very little of interest. But I did think it amusing (sort of) that the owner was the grumpiest, most bitter-seeming dude I encountered during my entire New Zealand trip. Turns out the U.S. isn't the only place to breed those.
  19. Do you REALLY want to know plot details in advance? Personally I love to know as little as possible about the story before I see a movie... "Are you testing whether I'm a replicant or a lesbian, Mr. Deckard?" I'm looking forward to "Mad Max: Fury Road" much more than "Blade Runner II..." The original director, George Miller, came out of retirement to make it.
  20. I recently found this UK version of a Baker romance comic, called Teen-Age Romance #8. It's one of those comics where the interior artwork is not in color, and it's only half as long as a regular comic. But I sitll think it's pretty cool. The cover artwork looks like a B&W Baker panel or splash that was not-so-delicately inked by somebody else. (?) Anybody collect these UK versions of St. John comics? I'd like to see some other ones.
  21. I was already in the Crime SuspenStories #22 club, but now I'm in the graded CSS #22 club:
  22. Awesome! They all appear to be in nice grade, too.
