  1. Thank you... I love it... I kinda hate to slab it and cut off access to the interior art. I should have snapped photos of the splash pages at least before I sent it off. You shouldn't ever slab a book unless you want to sell it... Some would say so. A lot of the books I'm slabbing because I will sell them -- I mean, eventually all the comics will be sold unless they're going to be passed on like heirlooms. Other ones I slabbed for curiosity to see how they would grade, and some I slabbed just to preserve them and protect them from my clumsy hands. Then there are some that I wanted to slab to make a nice set -- for example, I am building a set of Mad #1 through #5 that are all graded and at a similar level. (Those are comics that are so thoroughly reprinted there is nothing lost by slabbing them.) I never slabbed before so I figured I'd go for it to see what it's like. The real downers were the couple comics that came back restored and that I didn't know were restored!
  2. There was a previous TR 41 5.5. Sold at a Cc auction a few years ago. Unfortunately not to me. Ah thanks. My own confusion then. When CGC's online update system for my account went to the "shipped/safe" stage, I looked a the census and I saw one 5.5 and thought it was mine. I guess they updated their census just in the last day or so.
  3. I posted this in the MLJ Archie thread but it goes here too. I just yesterday got back 30 slabs from CGC and quickly snapped this photo of a couple favorites. I checked the census and it shows two copies of Teen-Age Romances #41 at the grade 5.5, and no other copies. I can't figure out if CGC inputted my copy twice, or was there always a 5.5 copy graded? I don't recall seeing a 5.5 copy in the census during previous searches. Does somebody here have a 2nd 5.5. copy? Just curious because it is such a weird coincidence if there are 2 graded copies at the exact same grade. Anyway, I am happy with the grade even if CGC is grading pretty tight these days. I love the comic. I hate to slab it, which is true of many of my comics, but I decided to take the CGC plunge (my first time getting things graded) and went for it on a whole bunch of comics.

  5. Okay here is a picture... I just got a bunch of CGC slabs in the mail yesterday.
  6. I just got this issue graded by CGC and now am the proud owner of the highest-graded copy. It's only an 8.5 though so I am at significant risk of being knocked off the perch. I think this is a really underrated issue/cover. I'd put it right behind #50 as best Archie cover of the time period. Nice pick ups Sqeggs and Doohickamabob! (thumbs u Gracias. I will post a photo soon.
  7. What kind of hallucinatory drug-trip material do you watch on television?

  9. Thanks! The grade is really tight, yes. There is a tear on the right side of the cover that goes in a little more than an inch, but the cover displays great, the binding is tight, and the paper quality is pretty good. I just had a bunch of stuff graded by CGC, and I think most of the grades were really tight. One thing I am noticing is that they are especially rough on interior page color/quality. I had many GA comics I thought should have gotten 8.0 or even 9.0, but came back as 7.0 with the only notable flaw (that I know of) being that they were "off-white" instead of "white."
  10. I should just give up collecting now. This stuff is incredible.
  11. Well, mine's just a Canadian edition, if that makes you feel any better. It is a seriously hard title to come by -- I would like to get a decent midgrade #10, if you ever come across one in search for your #11! I once saw a #10 in a large group of otherwise unremarkable romance comics. I put in a low bid because I assumed nobody else saw what was hidden in the lot. Bad assumption! Somebody sniped it and scored. That was back before I was hip to sniping. Boy did I hate those snipers! Lost out on a lot of what would probably have been amazing deals. I have a low grade Moon... Girl... Romance #10 but it's really a beater. I also have issue #9 which is being graded by CGC right now. I am thinking (hoping) it will probably grade around a 5.0.
  12. Nice copy of a Baker must-have! Just got my own copy back from CGC. I was hoping for a litttttle bit higher grade but it does have a pretty good edge tear from where a person's thumb holds the book, so whatever. I also got a reprint copy of the book and finally read the thing. It's a very entertaining story, very much like a movie treatment. I could see it being the story for a full-length film noir movie, and a pretty good one at that.
  13. Great stuff! I wish people wouldn't talk about A Moon, A Girl...Romance #11 being tough to get..... How am I going to score a copy with this much competition?
  14. Glad to see you here, Robot Man. I can vouch for what Robot Man is saying, which is that the photos of his collection that he's sharing in the Golden Age area are phenomenal and worth your time. Robot Man, I don't mind if you show older garage-sale finds, and I don't mind if you disclose what you paid for them.
  15. Disagree. eBay removes feedback only in some situations, and they don't let a person remove negs over and over again. There are legitimate reasons to remove a negative feedback, such as if the person leaving the neg did so in bad faith, without attempting to resolve the problem in any other way, or to screw with somebody they just don't like. This actually happened to me recently. A buyer on one of my sales didn't pay for nearly 3 weeks. I attempted to communicate with him a few times and he did not respond in any way. I don't understand why people do that: Buy without paying and without communication for days on end. I can understand a few days, but a couple weeks? What's up with that? Finally, I clicked on eBay's "non-paying bidder" report button. This gives the buyer about 4 days to pay, after which I guess eBay dings the buyer's account and eventually suspends them (after a few more instances, I assume). I had written to the buyer that it was nothing personal, just my policy with non-paying bidders. He didn't respond, and didn't pay until the last few hours of the last day. I mailed the item within 1-2 business days after he paid. A few days later, I glance at my feedback and see he has left a negative. In the negative, he wrote that the comic had flaws that I know for a fact it did not have. Either way, the negative feedback does not make sense: Why neg? Why not complain directly to me? If the buyer was unhappy with the comic, why not just return it for a refund? I never had the chance to try to rectify any problem. The buyer says the comic had flaws, but doesn't want a refund? That doesn't add up. To me, it is obvious that the buyer was purposely leaving a negative feedback as retaliation for me filing a non-paying bidder claim. Which is completely against the spirit of the eBay feedback system. Worse, there are real financial repercussions to an unwarranted negative feedback. If you get Top Rated Seller status then you get 20% off of your Final Value Fees. In volume, that adds up to a lot of money. So if somebody is leaving a negative feedback for no reason, and without any attempt to resolve an issue, then they're potentially pulling money out of your pocket. eBay is right to allow occasional removal of negative feedbacks. Especially when the person getting the negative feedback doesn't deserve it at all, and is the type of seller who goes out of his way to make sure he is upfront, honest, fair and attentive in his eBay transactions.
  16. Definitely, especially with the cover firmly attached at both staples. My copy has a popped staple (sniff).
  17. Wow cool, and it's in grade as well, with dots un-connected! That's a keeper.
  18. Looks like a higher-grade copy of Mad #24 (magazine #1) -- well done! The white area looks very clean indeed, and the spine appears solid. What do you think: FN/VF or maybe higher? As for the Jack Davis cover, I've either never seen it or saw it a long time ago and forgot about it, so either way thanks for posting. I really enjoy when his art is colored in a minimal way, since his texture/shading technique stands on its own. Another example that comes to mind is his cover for Two-Fisted Tales #30.
  19. No way I can approach the awesomeness level of Fantasyland's Gaines File copies, but here are some of my recently hoarded ... graded or acquired EC books:
  20. You know, a lot of that effect is due to the fact that there is a pure white sheet of de-acidification paper right underneath the cover, and the greater contrast tends to highlight anything printed on the inside front cover. I've seen that happen several times. Much better to have the microchamber paper and an enhanced see-through effect than not to have the microchamber paper!
  21. It might not have been intentional. Possibly the mom and dad were meant to look like they were holding hands. BUT you are correct, it does APPEAR as though Dad is copping a feel! That's kind of creepy as they watch their son or daughter make out. How can we be sure they're even related?
