  1. Love that cover! Looks like a really nice copy, too. I did not know it was a SOTI book.
  2. It was 3 or 4 years ago, so I don't remember exactly. I know my max bid was over $2000 (which I think at the time was 6 to 10 times Overstreet). A day or 2 before the auction ended , I got an email telling me the reserve had been raised and I was no longer the winning bidder. I called Heritage and was informed that the seller decided to raise the reserve price and that it was their right to do so. I told them I thought it was B.S. that it was done only days before the auction ended, but they didn't much care about what I thought. Thanks for sharing this story. Guess that's Pre-emptive Seller's Remorse for you. No doubt he expected it to skyrocket and then chickened out when it just sat there at the minimum.
  3. Somehow that makes the art more horrifying.
  4. Dear Gator, Let's say you're a bum who goes around picking up cigarette butts out of gutters. You realize that with the careful application of spit, you can put 5 cigarette butts together to make 1 cigarette, which you can then smoke and enjoy. One day you scrounge around and find 25 cigarette butts. From this, how many cigarettes can you smoke?
  5. That gangster is a heck of a good shot with that tommy gun! And he can spell backwards too!
  6. Got this Mad imitator recently: The cover seems inspired by Mad #5, and goes well with some of my other favorite Mad-imitator covers:
  7. Hmmm... Blond woman? Check. In a red dress? Check. Bondage scenario? Check. Bald dudes? Check. Window with bars on it? Check. Awesome GA book? Check.
  8. Those Canadian "Is This Tomorrow?" comics are truly awesome.
  9. Thanks for the help and answers. The comic is Zoot #11. I was pretty happy to nab a decent copy, and then it arrived in the mail and I soon found out it wasn't so decent. Also got a bunch of other Fox jungle comics -- Jo-Jo, Rulah, etc. in the lot. Some of them are also pretty cool, though not on my main wantlist, which makes it slightly harder to decide what to do.
  10. As long as we're showing the Cochran volumes, here is the Weird Fantasy (part 2) set obtained by a friend: I wonder who has part one?
  11. Those are great! In a way, it was a shame for the seller (Mr. Cochran?) to break up that set. It was also a shame there was no Moon Girl volume -- or maybe he kept it.
  12. It's just not there unfortunately...couple of pieces missing push it fully down to the 1.0 I think...plus it would just be a purchase for the hell of it and part of the fun of those instead of checking things off my want list is getting a good bargain Here is a question for everybody -- what is your take on comics with a panel missing? I just bought a comic lot, and the main comic in that lot that I wanted turned out to have part of a panel torn out (actually a little more, as the tear extends into the panels next to and below it). If I return the lot, chances are I won't be able to get that comic for a long time (and I've already been waiting a few years). Do I keep the comic with the panel missing, or do I return the entire lot for a refund minus shipping? Also -- how easy is it to get a scan of a comic's insides so that I can at least make a color copy of the missing panel and keep it with the comic so that for reading purposes the comic is "complete"?
  13. I sold a nice VG (raw) for $250 (right at guide)...so, yes, must have been the "exception"...a cgc 6.0 just sold for 475 (about 1.2x guide)... as a frame of reference... for a fair copy, I would pay 75 "happily" and if $100 is what it takes to get, that is not an unreasonable price either You guys are still talking about Earth Man on Venus, right?
  14. That's one of Baker's best in my opinion, even if there isn't any text about how the woman will "do anything to hold [Richard]."
  15. I just listed a bunch of GA books on eBay -- for auction with 99-cent starting bids. Lots of cool stuff (Xela comics, Miss Fury, Blonde Phantom, etc.), and here is the link to my larger post in the eBay marketplace forum.
  16. Gracias, and I think the Shock would be the most fun to read, due to all the genres. I wish I'd gone after more of those Cochran bound volumes when they were on eBay about 2 years ago. One of the lucky people here nabbed the Crypt of Terror / TFTC set for an enviably low price. That was Bronzilla who later sold it to me... Truly a fine volume! Let me know when you get sick and disgusted of it... and need somebody to mercifully take it off your hands... (We need to start a "Rush Cochran volume" club or something. A friend of mine has the Weird Fantasy 2nd of 2 volume... Just gotta track down the other dozen or so.) Anyway, I like this whole idea of clubs for owners of comics with decapitated heads. I can't wait to see the "Roly Poly 14" club.
  17. Okay, so who was the lucky person who won this lot? AWESOME ROMANCE LOT There are at least 4 Baker romance comics in this lot, plus a really hard-to-get EC romance comic. I figure the winning bidder has to be one of you diligent Baker collectors.

  19. I have two copies, one in a combo deal: There's also this one (next to its friend):
  20. Dear Gator, What else do you collect besides comic books? What would you like to have collected if you did not collect comic books? What are the coolest collections you've seen that are not comic books?
  21. It makes sense that you got this comic and your name is PokerKid.
  22. Speaking of pre-code horror, this eBay auction was impressive to watch: Weird Mysteries #5, CGC 4.5 51 bids. $2,225.25. Wow! Pre-code horror is hot lately. (Strange, though -- the winning bidder has a feedback rating of 3...)
  23. I want to see, I want to see... This is a really cool cover. Never seen it before. It has a classic style like the Ziff-Davis painted covers of the 1950s.
  24. Is the #8 the one where she's undressed? I saw that and almost bid, but the description said GD- even though the comic looked OK. This comic is what happens if one of the Dizzy Dames joins the Army.
