  1. How much did it sell for? I don't know how to search auction archives at the Comic Connect site.
  2. Fixed! (No cat-related pun intended) P.S. She'd probably be into "furries."
  3. Sorry, I got confused on the identity of the buyer of Batman #1. If you're reading this, Phil VTcomics, or if anybody else knows, I'd be interested in hearing the follow-up on this scam story. I would be surprised if this Harold Allen guy did not face criminal charges. By the way, in terms of pointing out his shill accounts, how do you figure out it's him?
  4. So did you get this PM out of the blue? If it is Harold Fuller, can you post a follow-up on everything that happened after the 2008 incident in which he tried to scam you for $4,000 (for a box that was supposed to contain Batman #1 but turned out to be empty) and you ended up getting your money back after alerting authorities? What else happened -- was he ever criminally charged?
  5. Is that the one that just sold on Heritage? Great copy! This is one of those "I coulda had it" comics -- not this copy, but about a 4.0 -- that showed up as a low-priced BIN on eBay a couple years ago, and for some reason I held off for a few minutes. Then when I tried to buy it, it was gone. (That has happened a few times with some other comics that I'm also still waiting to find...)
  6. If I remember correctly, in the story that's represented on the cover, the big green alien actually turns out to be the innocent one. It's been a while since I read it, but the situation is the opposite of what it looks like. I also recall that this is one of the handful of stories that has the words "Squa tront!" and "Spa fon!" in it. This copy is beautiful. My copy is low-grade, but it does have one thing this copy doesn't -- interior signatures (at the top of the first page) by both Al Feldstein and William Gaines.
  7. What is Betty doing to Archie there? And who knew that Charlie Brown had a thing for Nancy?
  8. Rather than respond to each image with a detailed response, I am going to "draw" (in green crayon) on your images and highlight some of my favorites!
  9. If those are just the A's, one can only imagine the B's through Z's. I don't suppose you'll ever tell us how y ou got this collection, but it sure looks amazing, and I hope you'll show more.
  10. Wow, nobody can accuse you of not being a die-hard EC fan. Are you going to get a Crime SuspenStories #22 tattoo anytime in the near future? Too bad you didn't select a "headlights" cover.
  11. yeah, this is a killer book! I never noticed the head on the floor at right. Also, the human pincushion is kinda funny.
  12. Make that three copies. (Actually four -- I bought one recently that showed up as a Buy-It-Now.) When it droughts, it droughts, but when it rains, it pours.
  13. I love 'em! I do wonder, though, about the zebra's pink eye (demon zebra?) and the alligator's bandaged-looking paw (mummigator?). Not that anybody looks at the animals...
  14. It's strange how no copies of a comic/mag will show up for months at a time, and then out of the blue, two copies show up.
  15. One thing that bothers me about this cover is it looks like the woman has hairy armpits. Not that there's anything wrong with going European style! But it's obviously meant to be shading.
  16. You're probably right. It's just that he uses it a lot. Anyway, I am happy to get back to talking about Matt Baker. Also that art posted from Captain Easy is remarkably good.
  17. Thanks, I should know these things. I was looking at some Torchy artwork and I notice Bill Ward / Gill Fox often put crazy little swirling patterns on the female characters' dresses. I assume that is also some sort of zip-tone cutout effect. For example:
  18. Thanks for the link and giving me yet another way to look at and appreciate Baker art. I do see what you mean, and he is very good at it. (I'll have to go look at some Reed Crandall picto-fiction work for other examples.)
  19. Nice job with the one-handed pics! I need to get the Dark Horse reprint. Those are some vintage female poses by Baker. Interesting about the spot blacks. I've also heard it referred to as zip-a-tone. It's kind of 3-D!
  20. I am going to follow your links and refresh my history/literature so I have a baseline chance of holding a semi-intelligent discussion with you about Huey Long and Hodding Carter. Regarding "It Rhymes With Lust," I see you noticed my M.O. of putting cool books in the corner and wondering if anybody will notice. (Not really -- the "Lust" book happened to be out.) Here's the pic, I hope you enjoy it:
  21. Is "Walter Marino, Death at the Opera" an original Holmes story? (My guess: Not likely)
  22. Very fond of these (only 1 is Baker):
  23. Love that Phantom Lady #13, even if I don't understand the lingo ("s/h"?). Speaking of Fox comics, I just acquired one that I have not seen very often: Spectacular Stories Magazine #4 (Sherlock Holmes). This is the first issue, though oddly enough there is a 2nd issue that is #3. I love the kooky girl-fight cover -- it fits in well with my fondness for Crimes by Women comics (even if the figure-drawing is terrible). Sorry for the weird photo angle.
