  1. Yeah I am hoping someone will tell me something I don't know such as how to access the European market that loves Duck books (or someone on the boards who would know someone who would want them as I am not going to be asking sky high prices). Of the three auction sites Heritage I think does the best for Ducks but they take pound of flesh in doing so. ComicLink has been a great place to buy Ducks as prices are generally quite reasonable but they do a bit better on Ducks now (but still on the low side).
  2. One of the projects I was working on was getting all the Four Color (Series II) Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge books in 8.0+ or above. I got pretty close to completing them (no 29 or 62). Scans can be seen here. http://s1006.photobucket.com/albums/af190/davidcomics/Barks%20Ducks/ (One book is missing as TB had a friend that wanted the 263). Like my Marvel Comics I have been madly selling in the the G/S/B Sales area I have decided to move my Ducks. What I am unsure of is what would be the best venue or way to go about hence I come to wise sages of the Disney thread for advice.
  3. Great guy. I have only good dealings with him. When he was selling off his JIM and TTA runs years ago I picked up some really nice books from him
  4. Congrats. That's fantastic that you have your run finished. It is an incredible accomplishment. What to collect next. I nice run of WDC&S 1-100 or the Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck Four Colors would look great beside your MMM.
  5. I hope it is a new benchmark. You'll see I offered my personal copy on the boards after the auction and then on Comiclink. I think the price is so silly I would part with my personal copy and would be confidant I could buy a copy back later for far less.
  6. What country does that story take place in? Somewhere in the S.E. Asia or the South Pacific? Replace that GI with a banker instead and it is still relevant today.
  7. Stunner, what is the grade? Hardest Marvel key to find in high grade and pretty much the hardest Marvel Comic to find in high grade. She looks like a beauty
  8. I had 12 books arrive today in Hong Kong. I posted a scan of this in the FF 1 club when I wired the funds but now I have the book in hand so I am posting it here in the mail day thread. Very happy to have it in hand and I think it looks great. There were some other nice books, like a hulk 3, but this book is so nice that I think it stands alone out of all the mail I got today.
  9. I posted this in the FF #1 thread but I am on having agreed to purchase this book so I am posting it here too. Wired the funds off today so it should soon be in Hong Kong. I need three more issues in the first 50 (3, 15 and 27) to finish off my 8.0/8.5 run and 14 in the next 52 to finish off my 9.2 run.
  10. Come on down out of the nosebleeds. 8.0's are perfectly acceptable (at least to me) and are far more affordable than all those high grade copies and still present very well.
  11. That is a nice looking set of books.
  12. How much do you think we have cost each other over the past 3 years as we both went after the JIM books? This annual was the latest case. I paid about $25-40 more than I wanted too and I guess you bid it up as well. Funny we both wound up needing the same last book.
  13. Heck 8.0's not that bad and not as easy to put together as it sounds. Ignoring the financial issues there are only 15 copies of JIM 84 graded 8.0 or better. Korvac and Schmell have 2 of the 8 copies graded 8.5+ and I doubt they are for sale. Only 21 copies of JIM 91 are graded 8.0 or better. I find that there is this misconception that Silver Age Marvels are plentiful in high grade. That is certainly the case for some titles and issues but when you start looking at JIM, ST, SGT Fury, TTA (#35 only has 15 copies in 8+) that is just not the case. There are 34 issues of the 323 Superhero Marvel Comics between 1961-65 that have 30 or less copies of 8+. Likely more when you consider some copies have been pressed and regraded and the old lables are not always returned. This is over 10% of the issues from the first 5 years of Marvel and much higher than 10% if you just look at 1961-1963.
  14. I can finally join Korvac with a complete set of slabbed JIMs as I finished off my set with a purchase of JIM Annual 1 tonight. This makes the fifth complete set listed on the registry. Besides Korvac, Schmell, Scott and someone with a lowish graded slabbed set have complete runs listed. It was the JIM books that got me started collecting slabs as JIM 83 was the first slab I bought. From there I decided I wanted to get all the JIMs which grew into my current project of trying to get all the 1961-65 Marvel Super Heroes in 8.0+ slabs with Offwhite or better pages (40 books left). While my set is nowhere near as high grade as Schmell's or Korvac's I am happy with it. Of my JIMs 32 are 8.0, 10 are 8.5 and 2 are 9.0. As I started the JIMs off before my overall project quest I was not as focused on PQ for some of my first purchases and have 5 with C/OW (90, 91, 104, 111, 115) pages and 1 with LT/OW pages (#86 unfortunately). I may upgrade these 6 issues but other than the 86 not in a rush to do so.
  15. Thanks for taking the time to provide the info.
  16. Those are some spectacular kite books. Thanks for sharing. (Do you have any idea if any of the other Donald Duck Tells about Kites in the find last year are for sale?) Here is my latest Donald Duck Four Color acquisition which I won today.
  17. Do you have your first hundred project scans anywhere. I know you have some posted in the thread but to see all 30 you have so far would be something
  18. My three latest acquisitions. Takes me up to 11 of the 30 Donald Duck FC's. I must say that Overstreet is way off for the pricing of the 2 non-Barks. I bought 339 at 1.5x guide and the 379 sold for 2.4x guide (I was the underbidder). While the Barks books you can generally get below guide I think the scarcity of the two non-Barks (neither cover or interior) makes them go for so much more than guide. They are still cheaper than the Barks issues, but not by that much.
  19. I bought a couple early FF's and a TOD 1 from Charles. A great and easy guy to deal with.
  20. That's interesting to see so many together. I normally only see a couple at my local con. But if it's a big show you most likely see a lot of key books. TOS 39 is a classic and my personal favorite (behind Avengers 1). It was actually a very small show, with some high quality books. I saw 3 or 4 AF 15s a Batman 1 2 or 3 X-men 1 s 2 Avengers 1s .... and just an obscene amount of 39s. I found it very surprising Well compared to some keys TOS 39 is relatively common and the book has been reasonably hot over the past 2 years so it is not too surprising. Also sometimes randomly it seems one will see multiple copies of a book and then in the next while hardly come across that book.
  21. My entry ticket to the club which is currently winging its way to me via Fedex
  22. Thanks for the kind words. I think the remaining books might be tough to acquire as there are not too many copies at 8 or above with off-white or better pages and I do not want to pay through the nose for them. Still the duck books are fun.
  23. Well they are still a far cry from your Ducks but I am happy with them. Never quite expected to buy so many. I was a little hesitant to pull the trigger as Duck books seem to continually go down in value.
  24. AJD Thanks. Just looking at your sig line. Did you pick up any of the four colors you need in all the auctions this past week?
  25. I went a bit of a Barks buying binge over the weekend. I finished off my Uncle Scrooge Four Color's with this: Given that my Marvel 1961 - 1965 CGC 8.0+ project is winding down (only 60 more issues needed) I got it into my head over the last few days that I needed a new project and decided on going for the 24 Four Color Barks Donald Duck issues and picked up 8 of them. Not sure if my attention will be held long enough to complete this or not but here is my start
