8.5/9.0 tiniest crease TRFC
Yup that’s the only flaw I could find too, thanks!

the greyscale background might be good at hiding little defects, but I don't see much going on. The inner covers might be starting to darken. 9.0 or better. I don't have a lot of confidence picking a NM range grade for this one. Very nice looking copy. I do really like this style cover. There's a few of them from this era using grayscale, and they're all pretty cool.
Thanks, as always! I love these cover too (seems DC did more with this kind of compositing than Marvel). I’ll try to take some brighter pics but I can’t find anything other than that teeny ding on the side of the front cover (triangular). I recently bought a lot of silver age FF so will probably be posting more of them soon.

I was ready to give a 7.5/8.0 & optimistic on the outcome, but I noticed one the 2nd time through there seems to be a stain right on Spidey's head in the water. Noticed it first on the reverse side in the Grow Live Monsters ad. I fear a stain, especially where it is, knocking this down to at least a 6.0, possibly a 5.5
Thank you, as always, sc, for your thoroughness and also I hope if I send it in, they are not as thorough as you ;-)
It’s definitely a stain and it has a texture. I hadn’t really noticed it! Now intro the rabbit hole of whether that defect is improvable and if so, by how much. Mostly likely, the risk will be too great for the bump, and I will be content with the Mona Lisa of 5.0s

6.5 possibly 7.0. Very nice book
Awesome, thank you! I paid 4.0/5 prices so while the underhang isn’t my favorite, I’m very happy!

5.0/5.5 since that corner stain is persistent, maybe soaked through
If I decide to try to work on it I’ll post results but I’m still very happy considering how I got it! Thanks so much for your time .

did you do some cleaning already? I was sort of pricing in that being something still to do. That brown patch on the BRBC if it doesn't come off might knock it down a grade or 2 depending on what it is
Yes this is dry-cleaned/pressed already. It’s as good as it’s gonna get without doing like a heat overlay press or some whitening, which I’m just starting to get into. So, if you can let me know where you think it’s now, that would be great!

6.5±0.5. I think 7.0 is a reach, but within the possible range if thus was cleaned up. One note of caution, I have strong suspicion that CCS pressing took a couple of my books with loose staples to cover detachments. Tread with caution about who works on it.
Yow! I would be over the moon to get a 6.5 on this book! Thanks for the heads up on CCS. Researching them and hearing these kind of stories led me to start learning to do my own pressing. Here’s how Jean Grey came to me in the collection i bought! I probably pressed this book earlier than i should have attempted a spine roll repair, but the staple is intact so I guess I still came out ahead ;-)

Is the cover detached at the top staple, or just loose?
It’s just loose

I’d give it an 8.0 based on additional pics. Ver nice. Congrats!
The seller originally had it as an 8.0. It sat, I think because of the staples, for a while and I got it for an offer based on valuation as a 6.0.
I think I was able to take that risk because I had previously bought books from this lot and so could interpret the photos differently and knew their books were generally very solid and definitely unpressed/treated (they’d been in a box for 40+ years).
and yes I feel very lucky, thanks!

Fair/good. Low grade books like this are to be handled and read. Colours are excellent on this book!
Thank you! Yes, agreed, but I (and I hope this is ok to say on this board) feel that way in general. I feel like right now the only books I would slab would have to be above 9.4 or below 2.0 (in one case bc I fear it could lose grade in my care, in the other bc I fear it might fall apart).

Hi all, thank you I will post more pics when I am home tonight/tomorrow!

So I know the provenance of the book and that it's never been pressed. I'll dbl check in person, but I believe I noticed the color difference there but chalked it up to something during printing. It might also be emphasized by lighting. I didn't think it would affect grade.

Cockling/waviness along the top, various spine tics, various indents, blunted LLC, bend LRC, spine rubs BC. Color lift FC?
7.5.
Ah yes i see the color rub on the spine of the of the back cover. I didn’t notice any color lift on the FC, so maybe it’s the photo? Where did you think you noticed it? Thank you for the eagle eye!

PGM Fantastic Four 25
in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Posted
Specifically wondering what the chip out of the bottom right corner of the front cover does to the grade.
Thanks!
