But this is what I'm saying. His reputation. His career. He could have fought for those. Others have come back from things like this. Of course other factors could have been at play. Maybe he had issues know one knew about that made this worse for him.
But what's the "fix" for this? Not have people step forward when they think they are a victim? Not cut ties with people if you know it will cost you business? How should this have played out?
I would say for me, personally, the "fix" is to not get involved in any way when someone I have no connection to shares an experience or opinion about anyone else I have no connection to. Collectively, we could have viewed the initial 1st hand reports as like PSAs - and then said to ourselves "ok well this will either play itself out legally or somehow become clearer in the public eye. I'll follow it if I'm interested."
The problem is that, with social media, other people's lived experiences become something for each of us to react to - indeed, that's really the only value anything on social media has - and that generates the feeling of no safe haven, etc, when that attention is pointed at you.
So for me, the fix is to keep increasingly realizing that I don't have to get involved in other people's stories just because I come across them and that social media interaction is most often a solely negative way of interacting.
We can each control our own behavior. I didn't get involved on reddit or anything, but did exchange a few presumptive txts with a friend. And if anything I personally said online as someone completely disconnected from this whole thing would have added weight to what Ed, Molly, or anyone else felt in this situation, I would regret it. And will try to remember that the next time something like this happens.

Update - the lovely folks at CGC added an 8.5 pre-screen to my order for me. So this one will likely be coming back raw and I won’t have to risk damaging it by cracking it. Thank you to everyone here for the insight and advice, and I’ll of course update here when it comes back or gets rejected during pre-screen.

I’m thinking 6.5 bc of how nice the back cover is, but I think that tear on the back could bring it down to a 6

Here’s my first reformed post. This book has neither been cleaned or pressed, nor is it on its way to CGC already 😅.
I have a lot of confidence in the stacking curve on the back and anything non color breaking on the front coming out, but we’ve got some general spine wear all along the spine as well as that one more significant area of wear under the word balloon to the left of mole man.
The color is gorgeous as are the interiors but I’m not gonna be fooled again!
What does the community think?

Holy Hannah!
You’ll be coming home with me tonight - I claim you with all my heart, per PM, of course.
THANK YOU Terry!
TALES OF SUSPENSE #39 RAW 1.5, COMPLETE & UNRESTORED SATISFACTION GUARANTEED. Minor tape support helping hold the front and back cover together, staples holding the centerfold tightly but are discolored. Very presentable complete copy guaranteed to get a blue label. Many 1.5's are missing huge cover chunks and to me don't present as nicely. Last GPA sale of a 1.5 was$4,400, board price just $3,695!OMGGGGGG, Preach!

These Wonder Woman’s are sooooo damn tempting. Somebody ought to pull the trigger. 🙏
I love those too!

Seems like a consensus is building and this is a great lesson for me - post em here BEFORE I decide to send them out.
It’s such a pretty copy I think I overlooked some flaws.
When this book likely comes back under an 8.5, it’ll probably get cracked so I can enjoy it again, how I prefer to (I usually only slab books I intend to sell).I’ll of course share here when it comes back, and thank you all for your time and insight!

7.0 bc of the edge wear on the right of the front cover combined with staining or whatever those spots are on the back cover. But a really nice 7.0!

Crease at the top right edge, color breaking crease at lower right edge/corner, vertical color breaking crease along spine under lower staple, staples and cover wrap are off center, minor spine roll.
IMO...
7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF): Back to Top
An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal. A small accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor cover wear beginning to show, possibly including minor creases. Corners may be blunted. Inks are generally bright with a moderate reduction in reflectivity. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. Minor foxing. The slightest spine roll may be present, as well as a possible moderate color break. Staples may show some discoloration. Slight staple tears and a small accumulation of light stress lines may be present. Slight rust migration. Paper is cream to tan. Centerfold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present.Wow, reading the definition, I get it - but I personally have never in my life seen a 7.0 that looks like this. So interesting how different things combine to make a grade. We'll see! Thank you for the grade.

I think CGC is trying to make everyone happy despite the cases were tampered, books were swapped & stolen and unreliable QC. I am planning to submit my books soon but my submission was June 2023.
I don't have any major change of feeling about CGC. Protect yourself by declaring a real value on your book in case of loss, get insurance if you have big books. But I will say, after I submitted my 181 is when the second scandal of books being stolen came out and I was like "If this thing is stuck in QC for more than a day I'm gonna start asking for proof of life"

Another awesome cover I’ve never seen before! That’s a beautiful copy. Looks like a 9.4 to me, except maybe a 9.2 depending on what’s going on on the BRFC? If it’s raised but not color breaking, a press would probably take care of it

And then immediately started backing that high value fee into an FMV to try to determine what grade it was 🤣. Surprisingly on the money, and I had a good guess of how it would come back a few days early!

Hi,
Looking for a grade on this copy of FF 45 that's just arrived for grading - so there won't be long to wait for it to come in! Biggest question for me here is the effect of the crease BRFC and the kind of dappled discoloration on the inside front cover. Thanks, as always, for your time and expertise!

Beware of FMV, they may bump the tier. You may pay $160 fee. Maybe more.
I feel this is 9.2/9.4. Look for the trimming or any restorations but your book looks natural to me.
Yes, thank you! I’m prepped for any eventuality there. Had a similar experience recently with a Hulk 181. When they blew up my “high value fee” from $250 to $600, I was like “whoa Nelly!”

Thank you! This book is from the collection of a seller I've dealt with over and over and so I'm very confident in its provenance and lack of restoration. And having examined it myself, I saw no evidence of any. But generally, on raw books, it is always a possibility.

conservatively 8.0/8.5. For me, it's always a wild card when there's possible light tanning & so forth on an older comic. Sometimes it seems to get hammered, other times completely ignored.
The thing is, if this book comes back anything lower than a 9.2, then I probably get to crack it and love it and hug it and name it George instead of selling it. So really it’s a no-lose!

From your mouth to Mike’s ears!

I would say a 4.0 because of the tears maybe a 4.5, but I'll take this kind of VG over one with rounded corners and a reader's crease/spine wear any day!

Printing a label from eBay is like 5 seconds assuming you have your listing set up correctly (10oz package weight, 13"x9"x2" package size). It takes less than 30 seconds to package a comic in a Gemini mailer, and maybe 30 seconds more if you're taping the book in-between a cardboard sandwich. Maybe. if the book is more expensive I'll take an extra minute due to the thickness of the cardboard sandwich, but that's just my OCD in wanting it to show up the way it was sent.
3-5 minutes a package? That's slow unless you're packing up larger toys and many comics in the same package, but then again it takes me less than a minute to pack up a single packaged action figure. It's not difficult to do it quickly and safely.
Paging DR X . I love how anything can turn into a debate on here!
