  1. I *appreciate* that Zack Snyder will have zero to do with DC films going forward because his films were garbage - and (Wonder Woman aside) set back the DCEU a solid 8 years.
  2. Oh wow - I’d forgotten about Blue Beetle, even though I watched the teaser trailer - what? - two weeks ago?
  3. Sure - but you quoted my post in your reply - and somehow missed that the last sentence... Was the entire point. For both his talent agency and PR firm to drop him on the same day pointed to their knowledge of bigger issues than were yet reported in the public - a statement that was validated by Variety just 24 hours later. And If they knew of the additional allegations by new people, there's no way Disney didn't know as well. Disney's problem is significant because Loki 2 is in the can - it will cost them lots of money to either re-work / re-shoot Loki 2 or (as a last resort) scuttle it completely if Majors plays such a large role he can't be excised efficiently (a la Tig Notaro's replacing Chris D'Elia in Army of the Dead).
  4. No - your point was made immediately after mine, in which I explicitly stated Majors being dropped by both his talent agency and his PR firm on the same day made it very likely that "they knew additional information that was not yet publicly available." A point proven true - and that was completely ignored by you in your defense of Disney.
  5. Yeah - and it's crazy to think Marvel almost didn't cast Robert Downey, Jr. due to concerns about his criminal past - because it was a question whether he was insurable. They reportedly resolved this by splitting his $500k salary for Iron Man in half - 50% up front, and 50% on completion - to incentivize him to stay out of jail and rehab long enough for them to finish the film.
  6. Yeah - the original charge by Anthony Rapp was only resolved last fall. See here: https://www.npr.org/2022/10/20/1130332451/kevin-spacey-anthony-rapp-verdict But he was fired from his several projects in 2018. He also had to pay the producers of House of Cards $31 million for his dismissal (also adjudicated only last year). The main issue, however, is the original accusation led to many other credible ones - not quite Bill Cosby-style, but a solid half dozen or so, some of which are still being litigated. He was even fired from a project last summer following new sexual misconduct revelations just as he was trying to mount a comeback. See here: https://gamerant.com/kevin-spacey-fired-genghis-khan-movie-new-sexual-assault-charges/ The point? Even though Spacey ultimately won the first case against him, that accusation uncovered that he is a serial abuser, and fairly quickly. So it's not that his firings and career cancellation were unwarranted. I suspect we'll discover the same with regard to Jonathan Majors.
  7. Exactly - for example, Kevin Spacey was eventually found "not guilty" of the original sexual harassment charges that caused him to be dropped by House of Cards and re-cast in the (completed) All the Money in the World years ago. His career still evaporated. And...like Majors, a major issue is the pattern of behavior - Spacey's alleged misconduct wasn't limited to that one person - and litigation about other alleged victims continues to this day.
  8. Oh hey! Look at this... https://variety.com/2023/film/news/jonathan-majors-more-alleged-abuse-victims-cooperate-with-da-office-assault-1235588870/
  9. One of the rumors on Twitter this morning was that Disney is trying to figure out how to hold off on announcing a replacement for Majors until after Loki 2, which reportedly finished filming six months ago. But umm...yeah - when your agency and PR firm opt to drop you - it's not good. They're likely privy to knowledge that isn't yet known to the general public.
  10. https://www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv-movie-news/brie-larson-the-marvels-mcu-fanboys-misogyny-freak-out-youtube-trailer-trolled-1234714518/
  11. That trailer was...neither what I was expecting, nor good. And I'm shocked at how hard Carol Danvers got demoted after her last film (which I really liked). The tonal dissonance from the first one is just...weird.
  12. Thelma and Louise. Every element works: The laughably misleading trailer Screenplay (that won the Oscar) Actors (Everyone - from Susan Sarandon, Geena Davis, & Harvey Keitel, to Brad Pitt, Michael Madsen and Christopher MacDonald) Directing (Ridley Scott) Cinematography Editing Score (early Hans Zimmer) I re-watch it every two years or so -- and I've yet to show it to anyone for the first time who didn't end up loving it.
  13. Agreed. And IIRC the Special Edition also omitted the "Yub Yub"s in the final scene victory song.
  14. Cool! Maybe folks will see that part where Luke turns off and throws aways his lightsaber and realize his doing so again in the opening few minutes of The Last Jedi was 100% in character.
  15. What I don't get about the criticism in the article above is how the "removal of content" from the platform constitutes "reduced choice" for the consumer. With the cancellation of Batgirl, it might be valid, but I also only learned today (when it was reported earlier this week) that HBO Max basically sold most of their removed content to Roku. Why is this relevant? I can finally finish Westworld - but on Roku, not HBO Max. Or...perhaps it was done this week specifically to help inoculate against some of the criticisms in that piece.
  16. My takeaway from the trailer: Olivia Colman's character - Sonya Falsworth - will turn out to be a rogue / enemy skrull.
  17. It could be worse. That puts it on VOD 21 days (3 weeks) after bowing in theaters. Black Adam was available to watch on HBO Max 26 days after opening in theaters.
  18. Agreed. I had no idea he was in the film - and would not have recognized him from that photo. Of course, I also fell asleep in the theater, and count that as the worst of the Marvel Phase 1 or Phase 2 films, so I might have just missed him...
  19. Fair. But - and this is my opinion here - I still disagree. I would choose to reread: The Watchmen The Dark Knight Returns The Killing Joke Sandman (#s 10, 13, 18, 19, 30, 50, 52) Animal Man # 5 100 Bullets # 27 Wonder Woman (vol. 2) # 20 and many more... over watching Tokyo Story, Cinema Lights, and *many* "classic" movies. Plus both film and comic books are considered pop art or low art. As such, they have far more in common with each other than they do in comparison to the world's best oil paintings, wood cut prints, sculptures, cathedrals or architecture.
  20. ? IMDB (as in...regular movie audiences) have ranked The Dark Knight as the # 3 movie of all time, behind only The Shawshank Redemption and The Godfather. Yes - the IMDB list has a recency bias - but The Dark Knight is easily as good as - and far more accessible than - films like Tokyo Story or City Lights.
  21. That's a great question. I did a few quick Google searches and Wonder Woman was one. Depending on the source used, the female audience percentage was between 52-56%. And Big Hero 6 was supposedly close to even (50/50). Neither Captain Marvel nor Black Widow hit majority women. But I wonder about non-obvious comic book movies, like Ghost World. Wouldn't surprise me if the theatrical audience for it skewed to (slightly) more female than male.
  22. Oh wow - Liv Tyler's apparently returning. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/captain-america-liv-tyler-betty-ross-1235361579/
  23. To be fair, there have been other worse 2nd weekend drops. Shazam 2's drop of 67.8% isn't as bad as: Elektra (-69%) Batman v. Superman (-69.1%) Jonah Hex (-69.7%) The Suicide Squad (-71.5%) Steel (-78%)
