  1. Thanks guys. A little late reading the responses but appreciate the input and no blunts for me…left that back in my Uni days - well maybe once and while after that…I think.
  2. When researching books to buy and download images of my books I ran into the same problem. Use a VPN. Connect and reconnect on your VPN and you should be okay. Rinse and repeat as desired.
  3. Are the auction houses (HA, ComicLink, ComicConnect, etc. ) considered authorized CGC dealers? I believe some do help with grading if I am not mistaken. So do they do anything with respect to vetting what they sell? This is a close up (a little grainy) of a book for sale on an auction site. There are no notes of damage but I don’t recall seeing a micro crack look like that when I have seen them through a dealer that I use to submit my books. Then again it could also be the bonding being messed up with that holder they put it with books. Not sure. Really interested in the book so looking for honest opinions and learning as much as I can.
  4. Was trying to find a discussion that already exists. I am pretty sure one does but couldn’t find it through the search tool. Are there a list of items to look for when looking at a CGC case to tell if it’s been tampered with. I have a picture of an item I was recently looking at and something does not seem right when I zoomed in on the picture. I can share the image but it will be grainy as I don’t want to affect the seller and will leave the book out of the image but before I do I want to make sure I pot to the correct board. Thanks Shaggy
  5. I am interested in the following book but consistently see some discoloration on the back (above the ROTJ logo) some more than others. Is this normal? Also would appreciate thoughts on grade of this book.
  6. Thanks for the reply. I didn’t take numerous pictures of the book I was looking at - just the area of concern. Noted for next time. Also might be a good idea that I do this so I can catalog and compare with multiple sellers. Thanks again.
  7. I am in the process of purchasing a NM98. There is one defect that I can’t get past. Looking for a 9.8 but trying to find those diamonds in the rough (or hoarded ). I found a copy that I feel is a good candidate but not sure about a couple of things. 1. how much is too much of a blunted corner? I have 9.8’s in my collection that look similar but I bought the book with the grade. (Oh and all other corners are sharp) 2. will those micro scratches in the picture also affect the grade? Thank you all for you help in advance. Shaggy
  8. @LowGradeBronze - Just thought I would share my thoughts on the risk vs reward. I was able to get the 9.6 Newsstand for a little under FMV. The 9.8’s for MTU 141 appear to be rarer (census wise) and are double the current FMV. The rarity to find it for sale is most likely based on ppl wanting to keep for there PC and it’s been difficult to find on ebay/Shortbox or locally (in Toronto Canada - so there are eBay listing for just the US audience that I may never see) at a price I would be willing to pay. I have a list of books I want to upgrade from my PC and then thin out my entire collection as I only want to leave things to my kids that they could keep (crossing fingers) or they could easily divest (damn kids!!! - ). A 9.8 would be better than a 9.6 but in the end if I end up with a 9.6 I will still be happy and keep for my PC.
  9. Update. I did purchase the book. Once I have it in hand I will take pics and post them prior to cracking the case.
  10. Oh and grendelbo, sorry forgot to answer your question - no unfortunately no grader notes on this 9.6.
  11. Thanks grendelbo and SolidShredder for your feedback. Not any closer to making a decision at this time - book is currently priced within current gocollect FMV prices for a 9.6. I really want a 9.8 of this in my collection to go with my lower grade raw copy that I can touch. If I grab it I will give an update.
  12. Hey guys. A newbie here - I have a book I am looking at with the smallest of color breaks. The break is adjacent to the staple. The book is currently a 9.6 but I thinks that is due to about 4-6 non breaking ticks on the spine (I counted 4 on the back cover and a couple on the front). I was hoping to buy this, crack it and have the pressable defects pressed out and then resubmit and hope for a 9.8. The only issue is the color break at the staple. Thoughts on if this would affect it from getting a 9.8. It so small and adjacent to the staple hoping this is not a deal breaker. I will take all comments as a learning experience so be as harsh as you want.
